Labour control freaks get goons to throw 82 year old heckler out of conference

These control freaks get worse. This bloke shouted "nonsense", once, so the bouncers threw him out. There was a bloke in the same row as him who remonstrated with them, saying "leave him alone, he's an old man" so they threw him out too.

The labour hierarchy then issued a statement which said that he'd been asked three times to be quiet. This is a lie.

Even I'm surprised by this, though I don't know why anymore.

Good on you Walter! Its nice to know that there are still some labour supporters with balls and im not being sexiest. Shame on you Tony Blair, shame on you Jack Straw, infact shame on the whole bloody lot of you!

SherlockLGJ · 29/09/2005 21:54

Sobernow OMG

You are quite right, Oh that is a horrible analogy but scarily accurate.

Mirage · 29/09/2005 21:54

I'm not surprised sadly enough-there are no depths to which TB will stoop to.

I'm thinking of buying the Piers Morgan book-mainly because I read thar he thumped Jeremy Clarkson. Is it good?

GeorginaA · 29/09/2005 22:24

Worryingly, I didn't even feel that shocked when I heard it on the news... not even mildly surprised when they went on to say that the terrorism act was invoked.

Heh. Wait until ID cards get in. That should be a laugh a minute...

suedonim · 29/09/2005 22:28

I'm not surprised, either. Remember that visit to the UK of the Chinese PM/President where all the human rights demonstrators were hustled away, for fear he be offended? So much for free speech.

Caligula · 29/09/2005 23:18

But MI - did you have access to "heavies"? And could you have locked him up as a terrorist afterwards?

I'd like to know if anyone is going to explain to us why the terrorism act was used - what criteria was employed by the police I wonder?

The media hasn't commented that much about the terrorism act bit (well at least the BBC hasn't) - which I find much more alarming than the bouncers. It just shows they're going to use it to lock away people they regard as a nuisance without having to go through a proper process.

Take your point totally, Caligula, of course.

GeorginaA · 30/09/2005 09:15

suedonim: not to mention the whole new no protesters near parliament law that was basically implemented to get rid of one Iraq War protester...

Cam · 30/09/2005 14:17

What do all the Labour voters on here have to say about this

Not much it seems

GeorginaA · 30/09/2005 14:24

I was a labour voter...

... not any more though, not since Iraq and the ID card fiascos.

RedZuleika · 30/09/2005 14:44

How many people are voting Labour through active choice these days though - or because of a lack of a decent alternative...?

edam · 30/09/2005 14:48

I was a Labour voter (my mother used to push me around in my pram canvassing - family has a loooong history in the party). No more, though.

This was disgraceful behaviour. I'd like to know what on earth the police thought they were up to, detaining the victim not the people who had very publicly carried out an assault/ threatened assault. And I'd like some reassurance from ministers that the pledges they gave when the terrorism laws were passed that they would only be used against suspected terrorists are in fact valid.

Sadly, as I suspected, looks like they lied.

edam · 30/09/2005 14:49

Actually my father's a chairman of his local Labour party (in a seat where Labour was voted out time before last). Will see what he has to say about this.

suedonim · 30/09/2005 15:47

Oh yes, I'd forgotten about that, GeorginaA. It feels like we're living in such an authoritarian state nowadays, I feel kind of claustrophic almost about it.

Cam · 30/09/2005 15:57

Its what I've always said, Labour is about suppression and oppression whilst pretending to be the opposite......

bubble99 · 30/09/2005 20:19

What I hate most is the smear campaigns. Anyone who speaks out is publically insulted. David Kelly was treated despicably before and after his death. For once The DM got it right with it's headline yesterday. A picture of the old boy being strong-armed out of the conference hall and a caption reading "Freedom of speech in Blair's Britain."

Cam · 30/09/2005 20:41

I knew this administration was going to be trouble when Peter Mandelson banned the BBC from mentioning the word gay in the same sentence as his name......

edam · 30/09/2005 20:45

Good point re David Kelly, bubble.

Just caught Peter Hain on Any Questions while nappy-changing (ds, not him!). He apologised, agreed it was unacceptable but tried to explain it by saying the stewards were 'jumpy' about terrorism. As if that is in any way relevant to an 82 yr old accredited delegate who shouted one word at Jack Straw! I notice no mention of an inquiry into the behaviour of the stewards or police...

Cam · 30/09/2005 20:52

Poor David Kelly was a victim of bullying of the worst kind........

Cam · 30/09/2005 20:53

What was it TB was saying a few weeks ago

Respect

Cam · 30/09/2005 20:55

I think we should adopt the USA rule that one premier can only serve 2 terms.

They seem to go a bit mad (even madder?) in their third term - Thatcher anyone?

bubble99 · 30/09/2005 20:56

The apology machine went into overdrive today didn't it? Patronising apologies with a "but the old boy's a bit of a nutter though" undertone.

I dislike The Mail mainly for it's scare stories on health. Their anti-abortion (at any gestation, although they cover that up by highlighting (wrongful, though legal IMO) cases of late abortion, stance is dangerous IMO. But that's a whole different subject.

Yesterday however, the picture of the goons bullying the old man and the caption, were powerful.

Cam · 30/09/2005 20:58

Oh they're all nutters,

Wolfgang
David Kelly
Robin Cook
Clare Short

They must be because they didn't agree with TB

Its not a case of the lunatics taking over the asylum is it

bubble99 · 30/09/2005 21:03

And the old lady who was left lying in urine for three days at The Whittington. "Difficult" was how they described her. I'd be bloomin' difficult if I was left lying, confused, in a pile of piss for three days. Can I say 'piss' on mnet?

LadyGuinevereofCAMelot · 06/10/2005 16:40

Dh is going to a conference thing in Brighton in a couple of weeks where Alistair Campbell is speaking.

How will he stop himself shouting "Nonsense" and "Liar" ?
