Labour control freaks get goons to throw 82 year old heckler out of conference

These control freaks get worse. This bloke shouted "nonsense", once, so the bouncers threw him out. There was a bloke in the same row as him who remonstrated with them, saying "leave him alone, he's an old man" so they threw him out too.

The labour hierarchy then issued a statement which said that he'd been asked three times to be quiet. This is a lie.

Even I'm surprised by this, though I don't know why anymore.

I can well believe it. Blair's Labour is like Animal Farm and 1984 mixed together in the way it behaves. I had also heard that there were people walking about encouraging folk to clap during Blair's fanciful speech and if people didn't clap loud enough they would stand behind them and clap really loudly.

There was a segment in the news about tomorrow's Livingston by-election and the Labour rottweilers were harrassing a walk-about by the Lib Dems. Same as they did during the general election, holding up Labour placards, jeering, asking silly questions, jostling everyone. Surely I am not the only one who finds these bully-boy tactics distasteful?

yingers74 · 28/09/2005 21:36

saw that, think it is awful. But it is becoming the way of politics. They were talking about how they did not like the unions voting out new labour ideas/policies so they are thinking of changing the voting rules!!!!

WideWebWitch · 28/09/2005 21:37

I've just read the Piers Morgan book, The Insider, and much as Piers isn't my favourite man Blair really does sound like such an arse and Cherie sounds worse. Wtf were they thinking of? Makes me want to go there and heckle a lot, quite frankly and chain myself to the railings or something. But hey, I'm old, I haven't got time.

WideWebWitch · 28/09/2005 21:38

Oh nice, just read the link and they used THE TERRORISM ACT FFS?! Right, because that's what it was designed for, to stop 82 year old men telling Straw he's talking bollocks. It's 1984 indeed.

Ooh, I like the name dropping batters! But yes, thinking back, maybe he does quite like Tony and just hates Campbell. I hate Tone so maybe I read it the way I wanted to! He thinks he's wrong on Iraq though and says so.

SenoraPostrophe · 28/09/2005 22:08

I'm very surprised by it - they're supposedly media savvy and yet give the media an anti-labour story on a plate.

they obviously haven't got enough spin doctors.

tamum · 28/09/2005 22:18

I saw this on the news- absolutely staggering, not least because of the apparent lack of awareness of how it would look, as SP says. Good on the bloke though, I hope I'm that outspoken at 82!

They've now apologised - obviously realised they're not going to get away with it.

I expect they'll just blame the bouncer and sack him - like he introduced the policy.

This symbolises everything that's wrong with the Labour government. Suppression and oppression.

How sinister is it to get from "nonsense" to the invoking of anti-terror law?

It proves that there is a process in place to prevent any form of dissent to the powers-that-be.

fabulous thread title as hausfrau says

TinyGang · 29/09/2005 10:08

But Tone's said sorry now. So that's alright then. Hmmm...

dillydally · 29/09/2005 10:14

If shouting nonsense equates to terrorism, i feel I may be imprisoned shortly for both terrorism and inciting terrorism (well i am teaching DD such choice phrases as heavens to betsy and Lawks which are surely on a par with nonsense)

RedZuleika · 29/09/2005 10:32

Better and better: an 82-year old man who's been a Labour supporter for half a century... AND... who fled Nazi Germany in the '30s. Did they nail their foot to the floor before machine-gunning it??

Caligula: they've already shunted some blame onto the bouncers - because they are voluntary staff.

And what was the chairman on about how he was repeatedly asked to be quiet?? You can see that's a lie from the footage.

katierocket · 29/09/2005 10:33

ha caligula, love the the thread title - surely it has to win some kind of MN prize. Did anyone see Blair on BBC breakfast this morning? He seems away with the fairies.

Caligula · 29/09/2005 13:44

yes I'm rather pleased with myself about the thread title - feel I ought to audition as a Daily Mail headline writer!

They're just such awful, creepy liars aren't they?

And Tone's apologised, but I'd like to know on what basis the terrorism act was used against this old codger? Just as well he wasn't carrying a rucksack...

katierocket · 29/09/2005 19:26

what was hilarous was them throwing out the other guy just because he said "heh, leave that old man alone".

SherlockLGJ · 29/09/2005 19:29

Do you know what the saddest thing about all of this is ??

This thread has only attracted 20 posts

Our Civil Liberties are being eroded and this thread can only manage 20 posts.

Very worrying.

edam · 29/09/2005 19:34

Appalling. Think the gentleman should make a complaint of assault to the police - the bouncers laid hands on him.

Shocked becaues my godmother is in her late 80s and often goes to Conference - has been a life-long party activist. Could have been her. Her view is "Blairs may come and Blairs may go but this is MY party and will still be my party after he's gone." Can't agree sadly - he's changed it so much half the people have gone, leaving Blairite snivellers who don't protest about this sort of thing. Shame on them.

The use of the terrorism act is disgusting - exactly why we should never have had these laws, it was obvious they would be misused against anyone who disagrees with the government of the day.

Agree Edam. One of the things which struck me, was that apart from the other guy who told the goon to leave him alone, no-one else intervened.

What a bunch of spineless saps.

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 29/09/2005 21:14

Does no-one else care about this? I agree Sherlock, the lack of outrage is almost as shocking as an old man being ejected from a conference (using anti terrorism law) for shouting the word 'nonsense.'

motherinferior · 29/09/2005 21:18

Can I just say that I know Walter of old - he's an old CNDer of extremely long standing - and I have to admit I did occasionally want to chuck him out of my office
