um

I don't understand why you are castigating folk here for not posting on another thread, they are two seperate issues, and people can post where they like, no?

[puzzled]

Agree boysarelikedogs.

I hate the arrogant assumption that people 'don't give a stuff' about something unless they publicly post their views on it. Very patronising.

People saying that nurses don't need degrees or 'just the hands on interspersed with bits of theory' have no idea about the job or how it has changed over the years. And the too posh to wash is a nasty DM myth aimed at mocking a mostly female workforce. It does not reflect any nurse I know.

Sorry but if students believe they have a right for the state to pay for their degree then the state has the right to decide which degrees are valuable to the state and get rid of all those which add no value to society.

However, I suspect Claire and her cronies would moan about this as well.

University education should be funded by the pupils, those from poorer backgrounds will get more help and if they end up earning less than £21k they will pay nothing back.

'if students believe they have a right for the state to pay for their degree then the state has the right to decide which degrees are valuable to the state and get rid of all those which add no value to society.'

Absolutely agree.

It's hard to see how anyone could DISAGREE with this. Studying for a degree which will add value only to you as an individual, but which won't benefit society, is a luxury. Absolutely nothing wrong with it whatsoever - but why should anyone else pay for it?

I am toying with the idea of doing another course of study soon - it will be extremely interesting for me, and will enhance my own life, but I expect to fund it myself. Why should anyone else do it for me?

Who are you calling middle class? get out of here.

NetworkGuy · 13/11/2010 16:16

... Who are you calling middle class? ...

I thought MN had a predominantly middle class, more (degree level) educated, profile based on membership, BICBW.

NetworkGuy · 13/11/2010 16:21

PS I do agree with the 'get out of here' response, however. sovreign has surely not posted something similar in every other subject area, as it would lead to being banned...

I am sure everyone has strong views about the other matter too and I read yesterday that it had been removed from Amazon, but did I post something to that effect? No, didn't feel it necessary.
