OMFG if that was the "provision" for my DS then heads would bloody well roll

arses · 01/11/2010 16:57

Shock Angry

TheCrackFox · 01/11/2010 16:59

Goodness me, that is so wrong.

nickelbangBANGbang · 01/11/2010 17:01

:(

droves · 01/11/2010 18:02

Whats even worse is that the boys parents fundraising gave £500 toward the safe play area.

And its used to buy barriers that are tethered together?
Ive seen similar used around building sites .

Can you imagine how the parents feel about this ?

pagwatch · 01/11/2010 18:07

at DSs school, which was buoilt for and is specific to children with ASD, they have a fixed open fenced area attached to each classroom ( like a permenant version of the one in the story).
It is to allow a child to safely leave the classroom if they are having sensory overload or need literally to cool off.
But that is for that specific purpose and sits within the spacious play areas and fields etc etc.

Perhaps the council saw this type of thing and misunderstood its purpose - thought that it was the whole story rather than a cool down area IYSWIM

BrownPaperBagOnMyHead · 01/11/2010 18:07

horrifying

ragged · 01/11/2010 18:07

Presumably the schools tried 1:1 supervision in the playground but that didn't work for this pupil? I'd like to know more about what else has been tried for him.

spikeycow · 01/11/2010 18:12

That's a disgrace. What the fuck were they thinking??!!

That's horrendous. Bloody hell, someone should lose their job for thinking that was an appropriate solution. Angry

SauvignonBlanche · 01/11/2010 18:19

Speechless!
Shock Sad Angry

droves · 01/11/2010 18:20

pag its so like you to try and see good, but i think they (council) missed the mark by miles.

Goblinchild · 01/11/2010 18:22

It's like something from an archaic Freak show. What was he supposed to do in his cage in his free time?
I wonder whom they consulted about the design before constructing it as a safe play space?
Shameful.

droves · 01/11/2010 18:23

at dd4`S SCHOOL they have a purpose built sensory room , for the sn kids who have sensory issues...its lovely , beean bags , squashy things, low lighting coloured lights "soft" sounds, all of which can be turned off /on to suit the child.

What the fuckity fuckity fuckity fuck fuck!! Scuse the language but bloody Norah! Whoever thought that was a good idea should be penned up in that cage themselves! If anyone treated my DD/DS2 (both on the autistic spectrum), or my DP (also on the autistic spectrum) or my Dbro (Aspergers) like that....I don't think I would be responsible for my actions.

Shock Shock and again, Shock.

MaimAndKilloki · 01/11/2010 22:39

Christ.. I was so hoping you were all over reacting. That's horrific, my pet rats are housed better.

saorachd · 01/11/2010 22:42

I hope the parents sue the Western Isles Council for abusing their child.

edam · 01/11/2010 22:47

Good grief.

Bet it was only dismantled once the MP got in touch. Fucking arses at the council - how DARE they treat a young man like this?

edam · 01/11/2010 22:48

And I hope the council explains exactly where that £500 has gone...

KristinaM · 01/11/2010 22:52

"A council spokesperson said: ??We try to be sensitive to the needs of all the children in our care. This enclosure was built with the best intentions, but perhaps the right degree of thought was not put into it."

Shock Shock

words fail me. it happens very rarely

MaimAndKilloki · 01/11/2010 22:53

"And I hope the council explains exactly where that £500 has gone..."

Quite!

violethill · 01/11/2010 22:53
