I think I feel slightly sick! Tax him, tax his club, greedy little man.

As you were.

Fair enough, I wouldn't fuck with Colleen's family either, they look well 'ard. Did you see them all going to Lourdes in their Team McCloughlin hoodies?

KKeerist.

legostuckinmyhoover · 23/10/2010 10:47

Coleen? didnt they split up? are they still together?

well if they are, that must be a combined income of... oh no, I don't have enough room to write the number. 70%.

legostuckinmyhoover · 23/10/2010 10:49

hmm, interesting. meanwhile everything is being cut back. You cannot justify it.

legostuckinmyhoover · 23/10/2010 10:50

you cannot justify 100000k earning [min] after tax when people; the disabled, the poor, the children, the elderly are being shafted left, right and centre.

SpookilyDoodleydoohoohoooooo · 23/10/2010 10:54

On the other hand though, forgetting Rooney for one second, how sustainable is it for a club to continue fees like this during more dire economic times, surely they also have to charge more for tickets/sponsorship etc etc and when does the general public put their foot down and say no more?

In general I think I have it in for anyone who earns more interest on their weekly salary than I do in a year Grin, and no I am no believer in just because you have some money left at the end of the month you should have to pay more tax on it, that wouldn't help.

OP posts:
SpookilyDoodleydoohoohoooooo · 23/10/2010 10:57

No I wouldn't be messing with either family tbh - am way to southern and softy to take on any of the Rooney/McCloughlin clans, those guys look like they eat softy scaredy cats like me for brekky!

OP posts:
legostuckinmyhoover · 23/10/2010 10:57

so what do you suggest?

Georgimama · 23/10/2010 10:58

Yes, you can justify those earnings if that is what the market deems someone worth.

The top 1% of earners are actually losing the highest % of their incomes as a result of the spending review.

SpookilyDoodleydoohoohoooooo · 23/10/2010 11:01

sorry lego - meant with regards to Georgi/you/me I mean if we had say £100 left over at the end of the month, if wouldn't help the economy to take £70 of it as that would be money you wouldn't be saving/spending etc. However perhaps there should be an upper limit too, say if you earn over £500,000 per year you pay 60/70/80% tax and take on more social responsibility, or a one off tax like the bankers bonus tax.

legostuckinmyhoover · 23/10/2010 11:01

and it is not a case of having a money left over. it is not a case of making everyone earn the same. it is a case of obscene amounts of cash [200000 per week] being taxed at the same as someone earning £2884 per week. That is a huge difference.

Georgimama · 23/10/2010 11:04

Oh God.

It isn't being taxed the same. 50% of £100,000 isn't the same as 50% of £2,884, is it?

legostuckinmyhoover · 23/10/2010 11:07

150,000k per year divided by 52 weeks is 2884.61 per week isn't it? That is taxed at 50% right?
200,000k per week is what it is and taxed at 50% right?

worried about my maths now? seems to me to be a massive difference?

Georgimama · 23/10/2010 11:09

They are taxed at the same rate but they don't pay the same tax, do they?

It is a massive difference. The person earning £200,000 (or £100,000) per week earns a lot more and pays a lot more too.

NoahAndTheWhale · 23/10/2010 11:12

However you look at it, it is a very very very large amount of money for someone to be paid.

Yes he will pay lots in tax and I don't have a problem with this being manipulated so he pays as little as possible, but the idea of being paid £250k every week is just silly really

legostuckinmyhoover · 23/10/2010 11:14

yes they pay more, but they earn more! depends which way you see it i guess.

currently for example, top rate is 50% and that is for 150k upwards; eg: any amount up to millions and zillions. where as everywhere else in the taxing system it is fixed between different earnings. they could eailly slip in another tax band after 50% Wink and no one would notice and no one would leave, especially if their mothers in laws tell them not too!

Georgimama · 23/10/2010 11:15

It is silly, particularly for kicking a football about, but it's not my money (or taxpayers' money) so I really don't care.

legostuckinmyhoover · 23/10/2010 11:16

collens hardley going to think twice about chosing waitrose over nettos with a higher taxband to deal with.

Rooney is paid as much as he is because he is an exceptionally talented footballer and nearly every club in the world would have him.

they can pay him what they like-i dont care. i dont care if he leaves either. i do care that he is taxed the same as someone who earns sooooooooooo much less. I do care that the tax system favours those earning such stupid amounts of cash.

popelle · 23/10/2010 11:29

He's taxed at the same rate as some people but he will be shelling out millions a year in tax.

Riven there are very few people who are as talented as Rooney.

yes popelle, he will be shelling out millions and taking home millions. more millions than you could shake a stick at.

meanwhile people are having essential bennefits taken away because there is not enough ''in the pot''. i couldn't think of a better way to help fill that pot more than to have a sneaky extra tax band to collect a bit more of his shelled out millions and other. he will not starve!!

popelle · 23/10/2010 11:33

Thats because football is the most popular sport in the world. Millions of people watch the Premier League every week.
