The fact is the media seem to have forgotten them.
Also if anyone with money cared enough they could be rescued.
You don't have to go through any govt. There are (very) private firms inc ex SAS who will either negotiate ransoms / conduct rescues, but it costs.
If i was their relative i'd sell my house + go down that route. Sadly they seem to not have v close family?

allthreerolledintoone · 14/10/2010 10:13

It seems they haven't got any children. Also i goggled and apparently they have lowered the ransom from 4 million to 100K. Shocking that no one has tried to help-although would the goenerment allow anyone to pay the ransom money out of principle?

i thought the official line was that ransoms weren't to be paid as this just leads to an increase in kidnappings?

LaraJade · 14/10/2010 13:44

The type of firms who could negotiate ransoms / try to get them out dont tend to stick within the law - but it's expensive. If it was my relative i'd ignore govt policy.

was talking to my sisIL about them yesterday. awful that they have droppped out of the headlines Sad

scaryteacher · 14/10/2010 14:06

If it's dropped to £100k, then eventually they will let them go.

Chil1234 · 14/10/2010 15:03

If they've dropped out of the headlines, do consider for a moment that it is a deliberate strategy. A news blackout could help the negotiation process in the same way as it did when the BBC journalist was kidnapped in Gaza. If their price has come down to £100k then they are effectively worthless... and this could make it easier to secure their release.

VivaLeBeaver · 14/10/2010 15:06

I'm suprised someone like The Daily Mail don't pay the ransom and then make themtell their story to the paper in lieu of a fee to pay the 100k back. Surely someone could do something for them? Can't MN set up a publicity drive? Imagine if it was your parents?

VivaLeBeaver · 14/10/2010 15:07

Hadn't thought about it maybe being a deliberate news blackout.

I have heard that ex special forces work in the area to protect certain shipping.

Perhaps we could have a whip round and get some mercenaries involved.
