biglips · 10/09/2005 10:42

This is abuse of the worst kind

How weird to find anything at all to laugh at

flamesparrow · 10/09/2005 12:13

"The family said she was not mistreated and was given food and water regularly. "

Not mistreated??? Did they think locking her away in a teeny room was kind and caring???

morningpaper · 10/09/2005 12:38

It wasn't really a SHED, it was a small room. People who are thought to be 'mentally ill' are locked in small rooms ALL THE TIME, even in this country.

zippitippitoes · 10/09/2005 12:45

MP

In the article it says she does not appear to be mentally ill, she was naked when rescued and the photo of the place she was kept in shows a tumbledown outhouse and the photo of the woman herself looks as though she has aged more than would be expected.

Where are mentally ill peopled regularly locked in small rooms in this country?

Cam · 10/09/2005 12:55

What, morningpaper?

QueenOfQuotes · 10/09/2005 13:00

I'd hardly call it a room! it was only a few feet high. And it looks smaller than our neighbours outhouse - which is tiny inside!

Shocking sory, poor woman, how must she feel after being locked up for so long!

What I find MORE shocking however, is that some-one seems to find it funny! I'd like to see how funny they find it, being locked up & neglected like that!

princesspeahead · 10/09/2005 13:46

lordy lordy lordy.
I did admit that the story was shocking, after I read it, but I STILL think the thread title is hilarious. Obviously, Melissasmummywithnosenseofhumour, the fact that I find the word "shed" incredibly amusing doesn't necessarily mean that I want to be locked in one for 25 years..... sheesh.

still laughing - so shoot me

PeachyClair · 10/09/2005 13:49

Totally awful, but you know similar thngs used to go on here- I met an elderly woman in the Psychiatric hospital i trained at who had been sectioned at 12 because her hand was deformed; she had become so institutionalized she had never left the hospital since (though she did sit in the staff canteen and have full freedom).

[anger] for all people in this situation

And it's not funny PPH. It just isn't.

zippitippitoes · 10/09/2005 13:49

Hi pph

I don't have a sense of humour even just in regard to the thread title either [puzzled emoticon]

saadia · 10/09/2005 13:51

I think if someone can find amusement in this story so shamelessly then I can only conclude that they have little or no ability to empathise with peoples' suffering.

melissasmummy · 10/09/2005 14:10

PPH, If having a sense of humour means that I would find this thread title as funny as you do, then I am glad I don't have one.

"Woman locked in small room with no toilet,no communication with outside world & lilted food & drink for 25 years"

Still funny?

melissasmummy · 10/09/2005 14:12

sorry, should be "Limited food & drink"

noddyholder · 10/09/2005 14:16

PPH you are a truly dreadful arrogant person thank god the rest of us have more compassion or it would be a sad world .

dropinthe · 10/09/2005 14:17

PPH-You have a warped sense of humour.

ChaCha · 10/09/2005 14:18

What a sad story! The thing is, it's just one incident, how many other atrocities like this go on in the world?
The world just never ceases to amaze me, if we knew everything that was going on right now we would all be insane, I'm sure of it.

WWW - what a sad story Made me a bit tearful.

starshaker · 10/09/2005 14:22

princess would u find it as funny if it was a child in this country

dropinthe · 10/09/2005 14:33

She's laughed so much she's lost her voice I think!
