Birth certificate mix up

This article made me howl with laughter. Apologies for the link to the Daily Fail.

How on earth did they not notice that the registrar had listed their dd as a ds? According to the article it took a week for the couple to notice the error. Correct me if I'm wrong but where I live they give you the birth certificate to take away as well as discussing the details as they fill it in.

Smile

More bloody hassle than its worth, I tell you!

ShriekingHarpy, they were too busy getting worked up that we all had different surnames and looking at adoption certs etc to really read the passport properly I think.

Which reminds me (completely irrelevant to this thread) of the time that we checked in in Amsterdam with DS and she only assigned two seats. When we queried it she said "The infant travels on your lap". DS was 4 at the time. Grin In her defense, Dutch children are huge and there were plenty of 2 yr olds in the playgrounds who were as big as DS.

She thought he was under-2, she obviously didn't even look at his DOB on the passport. Grin But even if he had been an infant we should have had a seat allocation as we'd paid full-price. We used to do that when DS, and later on DD, were genuinely infants. They only had to be on a lap for take-off and landing, in between they could sit on their own seat.

Could you put your DD through a deed poll that changes her name to exactly what it is already but makes it clear what's a title and what's a name, silverfrog? Then you could use that documentation (rather than the birth certificate itself) as the basis for the name in the passport.

silverfrog · 19/08/2010 13:14

yes, we could, but it doesn't solve the original issue.

dh has had a number of name changes due to deed pole, and keeping track can be tricky.

if ever she had her passport lapse, etc, then it would be back to an original application...

and the annoying bit is that her name is correct on the actual Register, but the computer is unable to print it out properly!

we remain in negotiations with both offices - at some point this will be solved!

edam · 20/08/2010 10:09

silver, just out of curiosity, why has your dh changed his name several times with deed polls? Surely you only need to do it once?

tribpot · 20/08/2010 10:14

I can't think of any reason why a mistake in gender on a birth certificate would delay the immunisations anyway.

silverfrog · 20/08/2010 10:21

oh, it's all legit Grin

first to officially anglicize his name (get rid of weird foreign spellings)

he also adopted his father's family name (possibly at this point, possibly involving a second deed poll)

he changed when he got married to his first wife, to incorporate her maiden name (another complicated names issue!) so that their children would officially have her name too (why they couldn't just have another middle name god only knows 0 think it was all to do with equality)

which of cuorse necessitated another name change when he married me - things are cordial enough between him and ex, but neither she nor I wanted me to have her name Grin

the list goes on, tbh, but he isn't the shady bloke that serial deed polls make him sound Grin Grin

silverfrog · 20/08/2010 10:22

oh, and I think they all needed to be deed polls, rahter than adopt by usage because of the title, and the implications re: crest/arms etc

Did I miss something? I do not understand why GP would not give 8 weeks jab because of the mix up. Can someone explain?

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 20/08/2010 10:43

I think GP, presented with a female baby and a birth certificate for a male baby, refused to register the female baby with the practice as the birth certificate wasn't sufficient identification. Which is fair enough, really.

And then because the baby wasn't registered with a GP she didn't get her jabs scheduled (although they claim they were "6 week" injections, I suspect largely to be over-dramatic because by 8 weeks, when the injections are supposed to be carried out, the registration kerfuffle was sorted out and the baby could be registered with the GP just fine).

tribpot · 20/08/2010 10:56

But it's the PCT that schedules the jabs (and already knew of the existence of the baby prior to the appalling name being registered). I guess maybe it varies from area to area but you don't need to be registered with a practice to get your immuisations done.

I can imagine there being a problem registering the baby with the practice, but I guess they didn't think that sounded dramatic enough for the story!

gorionine · 20/08/2010 10:56

I do not remember taking the birth certificate of any of my Dcs to register them, probably have got a very bad memory Blush

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 20/08/2010 11:01

It's the GP's practice that schedules them here (they forgot to schedule DD in so she didn't get them until 4 months). Come to think of it, I think here the hospital gave us a letter for the GP when we were discharged with DD and we used that to register her with the GP -- but again that may vary from area to area.

tribpot · 20/08/2010 11:06

I registered ds with the practice before I registered him at the registry office now I come to think about it! So had no birth certificate.

Still a shocking name though, poor child.
