This is a very sad posting but there may be some likeminded people to myself out there who this thread will appeal to

Which cleaning products have you found that make the whole horrible business a bit more fun?

I've recently discovered the following all of which smell lovely (not sure if they're actually that good cleaningwise!!)

  1. Bloo toilet cleaner - makes the whole house smell nice.
  2. Method 'touch wood' wood cleaner - smells just like you've been making marzipan.
  3. method ylang ylang daily shower spray - makes bathroom smell lovely for ages and really seems to keep the shower clean as a bonus!

I realise that I may get no responses to this other than something along the lines of 'saddo'... but just wanted to share

OP posts:

Viakal - makes limescale disappear in an instant.

Agree re Cotton Fresh flash... tis good!

And also agree re oven pride - the one in the box with the bags. Effortless oven cleaning (almost!)

TheNextMrsDepp · 18/06/2010 23:05

hobbgoblin - did you know bleach is bad for toilets? Rots the rubber seals, apparently....

TheNextMrsDepp · 18/06/2010 23:06

Loving this thread! Spent the WHOLE DAY cleaning, because house was such a slum. What do I do about that shower screen, though.....?

marriednotdead · 18/06/2010 23:27

Current slavedrivers favourites are Cif actifizz, Stardrops and Cilit bang.
Am disappointed with how long the smell of cotton fresh Flash lasts, maybe I just expected too much

Ponders · 18/06/2010 23:32

e cloths for everything. Aldi sell them in nice cheap twin packs in several different colours so you can have kitchen/bathroom/floor/general cleaning ones

agree re gleaming-oven man. I will be booking one shortly

hobbgoblin, I've got one of those white things but have yet to try it & still don't know what it's called!

lavender oil - gorgeous
Bleach - so bloody effective
my cast iron mop bucket, that I shockingly laid out £14 for - a HUGE amound considering I had always had cheap 99p ones before - but this was 5 years ago and it's still going strong.

Sazisi · 18/06/2010 23:56

Ecover multi surface cleaner - smells so lovely and wholesome and non-toxic

'Tropical Burst' flavour Comfort fabric conditioner - smells nice and coconutty, and (again) wholesome

Cif for walls and skirting

Ponders · 19/06/2010 00:56

oh for laundry my current divine combo is Ariel blue non-bio capsule thingies (almond milk or something?) plus Tesco Pure conc fabric rinse. Heavenly (& totally wholesome!)

FreddoBaggyMac · 19/06/2010 07:33

can someone find out what those white things that get marks off are called that Hobbgoblin and Ponders mentioned? I would love to try them out (yes, I am serious - it would make me happy!!)

Thenextmrsdepp - shower screens are my pet hate... you seem to spend ages cleaning them and the shower's used once and you're back to square one... the best thing I've found is the method ylang yland daily shower spray that I mentioned in the OP, it really does seem to work and smells lovely too. I've discovered that you can buy some of the method stuff on Amazon with free P&P for anyone who is interested!

How much do those people charge to come and clean your oven? I've often thought about it. I tried one of those 'clean in the bag' type things last time and it leaked all over the place so am not a fan.

Am off to check out cotton fresh flash...

OP posts:
scrappydappydoo · 19/06/2010 07:46

There are people who can come and clean my oven????? Why have I not heard of these saintly people before?? How can I get hold of them?

I'm a fan of any thing that you spray, leave and then just rinse away

I would also like to know whats the best product for cleaning an iron?

anonymousbird · 19/06/2010 07:58

Also keen to know the name of this magic cleaner of wall marks etc...

  1. ECloths are fantastic for just about everything
  2. My Dyson is so easy and multi-tasking (I even Dyson the dog - get the hairs before they spread!)
  3. Good old fashioned Fairy Liquid handles a multitude of sins
  4. Vanish pre wash stain remover, without it my children would look like urchins!
FellatioNelson · 19/06/2010 09:00

I'm a huge fan of E-cloths too. You don't need any product on them at all - for glass and mirrors and stainless steel or getting a smear-free finish on anything they are the best thing ever.

I'm also very dedicated to good old fahioned Windolene. It's quite hard to find nowadays so I always buy it in bulk. Nothing cleans inside windows half as well.

Embarrassed at how much I sound like a 1950's advert. Hang on, I'll get me pinny.

orienteerer · 19/06/2010 09:02

Lakeland Oven Cleaner

moaningminniewhingesagain · 19/06/2010 09:08

I think the the white things for getting marks off is Magic Eraser

I've not tried it yet but ponder buying one every time I go to Wilkinsons

FellatioNelson · 19/06/2010 11:07

Ooh yes - it's good.

FellatioNelson · 19/06/2010 16:23

Actually, just looked at the thread title, and have decided that the top three products to make cleaning a happier passtime would have to be:

gin
uppers
a cleaner

schroeder · 19/06/2010 16:49

scrappydappydoo For cleaning your iron you need hot iron cleaner-lakeland again it costs about a fiver, but it works a treat and lasts.

CoffeeCrazedMama · 19/06/2010 17:04

Scrappy - these are the wonderful people who will change your life www.theovencleaningco.com.
I always think I'll do it myself and save the 50-odd quid (double oven) but always give in and its so worth it!

FellatioNelson · 19/06/2010 17:10

I used a similar one called Oven-U. It was like a bloody miracle. I could have sobbed with joy.

scrappydappydoo · 19/06/2010 22:58

Damn I was trying to avoid lakeland - its one of those shops where I go in for one thing and end up with a whole load of useful stuff and not much money left... but if it stops my iron ruining more clothes I can't argue....

Ingles2 · 19/06/2010 23:07

Astonish oven cleaning paste, especially the orange one. I use it on my aga and it makes me soo happy. you can use it on any enamel...
Astonish stain removing bar for fabrics and carpets.. this is just brilliant
Oxyclean stain removing spray.. ds1 is a footballer, every day he has green knees, until oxyclean gets rid of it and it smells bloody gorgeous too.
Am very willing to accept free products in return for advertising btw,.. marketing people if you are reading..

The three things my cleaner can't do without:
Viakal spray
Vileda window cloth
Baby oil (for the stainless steel....of course)
