Anyone remember those curtains that you put hooks in?

and they go on a runner as opposed a curtain pole. I'm on a curtain hunt and can't remember what they're called. I can't have a pole in a bay window so need the more old fashioned traditional type curtains

We have a pole in the bay with a shonky bendy corner bit . Anyhow you still can only put pencil pleat curtains on it as it has attachments on the corner you cant whizz eyelets past. Is this the norm or is the answer to my prayers out there too?

Ours have a small hook at the end of the finial and one bracket in the centre. The rings don't get stuck anywhere, I don't understand why they would?

In the corner there is a ssupporting hooky thing which annoys the feck out of us.....

Header tape curtains can be as loose or as pleated as you like- so a panel look or a full gathered look or anything in between- doesn't have to look old fashioned. you just attach the hooks to the header tape and then, if you've got a track, hook onto to the dangly bits IYSWIM (if you've got poles, hook onto the curtain rings . you will need passing rings which can be bought from John Lewis or Laura Ashley to make the curtains go round the corner of the bay where there is a bracket or a joint in the pole .) If you are going for track, avoid the hooks that fit over the track as these can be awkward if you've got heavy or thick curtains. the sort with the dangly bit (are these gliders? not sure) are much easier to use

Ooh I love a bit of curtain talk. Given the choice for a living room I think I prefer the hook/header tape combo. Just seems cosier for a draughty Victorian house. There's a mahoosive curtain place near my mother, might drag her along today to criticise give her opinion.

We have corner bits on our bay pole thing. You can move the curtain rings beyond them.

Yes you can but you cant have eyelet curtains can you? Can you? They dont look that shonky I agree.

Are you thinking of Walcott House in that the curtains are literally just pieces of fabric (unlined or interlined) and then you create the pleats with the hooks you put through them.

They used to have something called a "C" ring that would run over the brackets required in a pole on a bay window. But just can't find the relevant page on their website for a link I'm afraid.

Rockbird- recommend interlining for curtains if your windows are draughty- toasty warm then! SparkyToo- your c rings (passing rings) available at John Lewis & from Laura Ashley. Weddinggift dilemma- you're right about eyelets- won't pass a bracket. I am still using header tape curtains I've had for 25 years- have recently brought out an old John Lewis pair & the colours are very now!
