May's Fledgling Flyers: shed that clout May Flyers are out

elliepac · 28/04/2010 21:23

Welcome to the May edition of the fledgling flyers where we are going to merrily fly around the maypole, dusting as we go.

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

For those who are curious, these are the Babysteps, which we all hope will restore order in our homes and make our lives a little bit easier with lots of support (and chat, and wine, and a little more chat )

So please come and join us, old and new, from May 1st.

Afternoon all,

It's very quiet on here today - I assume you're all enjoying the sunshine. I would love to have coffee in the garden ellie, but would get soaked here (if I didn't freeze to death first).

I've finished my work for the day but done absolutely no flying (again). I think I need to do 5 minute room rescues in every single room ad infinitum. Whether this is possible now that DS is home is another matter.

OM Good to see you again! I was hoping that the endless clearing up after DS would only last for another year or two. But it looks like I may have another decade or so in store for me.

Nettie Sorry not to wish you 'get well soon' yesterday too - I wasn't sure whether it was just your DH or both of you who were suffering. Though I'm sure your DH is suffering more if he's anything like mine.

DWM I can indeed see you (or about half of you!) and Katie now. I'll have to have another go at uploading some photos and see if I can put one or two of the first communion on my profile.

Chairmum Hope you did last the night! I can remember breathing a sigh of relief once I got to 37 weeks. Interestingly enough (or not), if your waters break here you have to be taken to hospital by ambulance.

Waves to everyone else. DS now wanting to watch a Peppa Pig DVD so must make the most of the time to start on the house rescue.

Nettiespagetti · 21/05/2010 21:14

Evening everyone

today I have

Dw and wm
work
dc nurseried
playdate for dc
maccyd's for DC
dc bed
dejunked loft and got 6 bags of clothes 4 charity
now sitting down everywheres a mess but I feel like Ive been productive! I now have one small suitcase of those clothes I will fit into one day!!!

om ooo revision central, is there loads of nervous energy or are you all chilled out?

Hope everyone has lovely weekend

swanriver · 21/05/2010 22:03

Today I managed quite a bit of cleansing as BIL appeared, and I felt shamed into sorting fridge and kitchen.

however children and I had an all out row later (don't ask, local history projects, swimming, telly, and now ink on walls and carpet) so I think he left thinking we were moderately insane.

Dtwins have only just gone to sleep, dh thinks they are now beyond naughty in their habits and that we need to put our collective foot down. I think he just wants to get out of going to the dreaded Legoland in three weeks Dd is totally exhausting, and ds2 not much better - having tantrums about his wretched football stickers indeed.
Dry house as well, as still on my no alcohol policy.

Also have now lost communion workbooks, could I have left them at Sat music last week???

Funny, there does not seem to be much Frid [or any]evening left any more -is this what it is like with teenagers (although I suspect they are better company than fractious 8 year olds)

Sleep well all, and better day tomorrow (if you had a bad day today)

elliepac · 21/05/2010 22:32

Evening all,

quite manic evening here so late posting. Been to friends for a BBQ and then back here to put DD to bed and then to Tesco for bits and bobs.

sr sounds like you've had a tough day and i think you're the lady who needs a better day tomorrow .

nettie well done on decluttering the loft. I wouldn't even know what's in mine, that's DH's job!

linzer peppa pig is my lifesaver. It's the only programme that my two both love (although DS would be mortified if I told his friends that ). Hope the weather perks up soon.

om at least DS is revising, I wish some of mine were, grrr. I will second the roll on half term thought!

Tomorrow we have decided to head to Scarborough or Filey for the day. A bit of a drive considering there is another seaside resort within half an hour but it's not very nice. So early start for us but hopefully a lovely day. Had to go to Tesco mainly because I realised today that DS does not have any shorts that fit him. More expense!
So I shall see you all tomorrow night. Have a lovely day tomorrow!

Evening!
Not much done as RL has got in the way and it's all been a bit hectic. Have kept reading and trying to keep up. Hope everybody is OK.
Chairmum my birthday is June 9th - so perhaps I will have a birthday twin? (Though my other birthday twin is Johnny Depp - same day, same year, obv parted at birth )
Anyway, trying to keep routines going at least but failing miserably to declutter and dining table now full of crap car parts!

Anyway, tomorrow is another day and hopefully the sun will continue to shine

droitwichmummy · 21/05/2010 23:24

It's a bit late - should have been in bed half an hour ago

Quick post to say there are now 2 photos of Daisy on my profile.

See you tomorrow

MrsDinky · 21/05/2010 23:32

Evening all,

Ellie - glad I'm not the only one with a 6 year old DS that still likes Peppa Pig (shhh, don't tell anyone). He has also gone back to The Tweenies at the moment.

SR - oh dear, never mind, tomorrow is another day, hope you find communion workbooks.

Nettie - well done on loft clearance.

Linzer - still hot but not v.sunny here, sticky icky.

OM LOL at the constant feeding of DS. I sometimes feel like my DS is a baby bird with his beak permanently open (except for half his cooked meals, grrr).

I'm tired, DD just woke up, I went and laid down with her for 10 mins and nearly fell asleep, ought to go to bed before I wake up properly again.

Managed gym, coffee with friends, gardening, visit to garden centre, some tidying and some form filling today, plus 1 load washing, not too bad. Ironing mountain keeps threatening to avalanche out of it's basket, ditto filing mountain, really ought to attend to them but CBA.

Night night.

gormers · 22/05/2010 10:27

Morning all,

Am busy revising in the sunshine today, but feel that I have successfully flown already: - having bought DH a lovely expensive present for getting his new job, he is now doing lots of FLY-ing around the house. He's currently sprucing up the kitchen & will sort out house packing after that!

FLY-ing by proxy - got to be the best way!! (Although I'd probably rather be FLYing than revising right now, Grrr!)

HAve a great sunny day everyone!x

MiniMarmite · 22/05/2010 13:11

I like Peppa Pig

MrsDinky · 22/05/2010 20:40

Evening all,

Phew what a scorcher, back of my neck is a bit red.

Nice day, not much Flying (there's still time!), took DCs to swimming lessons, followed by lunch in the park, a bit of shopping, home for a BBQ, now just relaxing.

Got a horrible feeling we have lost DD's favourite cuddly toy somewhere along the way, she has just come downstairs looking forlornly for it, we took it out with us this morning, it is not here or in the car. Bugger! Might be retracing our steps tomorrow. .

optimisticmumma · 22/05/2010 20:49

DS1s £1.99 revision football burst yesterday so DD and I bought him a more robust Peppa Pig one today! Unfortunately it went over the fence into our 2 year old neighbour's garden who has commandeered it for himself!!

Hope your having a lovely day at the seaside Ellie and that you are having a better day SR. Netti there is a lot of nervous energy here atm but eminating from me I'm afraid! It is sooooo difficult being a mum to teenagers during exam time. I often feel like running away!!

MrsD - I'm afraid boys just eat you out of house and home! i have just fed DS2 and he is standing with the fridge door saying he's hungry and what can he eat!!!

Ellie - I'm sure your Y11s are revising really. Last year DS1 seemed to do it all with smoke and mirrors. fWIW I think they are so much better taught and the teaching is so much more focussed that if they are bright it's seems to need less revision than in my day when we had to teach ourselves large chunks of the curriculum! That's my experience of DS1 anyway. DD has Textiles and Statistics this year but seems to swing from being v.confident to slitting her throat! (Only joking) but then I think girls are more volatile at this age whereas boys are so laid back they are practically horizontal! (Huge generalisation here I know before I get flamed!)

How are your DDs getting on MissB?

Huge waves to everyone else on the thread...

biddyofsuburbia · 22/05/2010 22:49

Evening all. Just checking in as have been absent for a few days due to manic times in the house of biddy. This new exercising lark combined with a new 'habit' of cooking properly every night is leaving a little less online time in my life but I will try a bit harder next week as I haven't been flying very well I must admit. House not too bad, but washing and paperwork piles getting a little too large for comfort.

Lovely day today - only job done really has been the garden - done lots of weeding! Taking DS to the tower of London tomorrow so don't anticipate a lot of flying then either but will need to get organised for next week. Looking forward to half term and less clock watching.

Hope everyone is well!

missbennett · 22/05/2010 23:06

Waving to all a bit limply due to heat.....
No flying but had a nice day.......bit of shopping, nice coffee and tea in the garden

OM good to see you. My DDs are a bit mixed - DD1 very stressed due to exams, my new hair cut ('you don't look like my mum anymore!') and life in general so she's been a bit up and down. Will be glad when exams over as think that will help! DD2 very happy and cheery, which is a bit inexplicable but I'm making the most of it while it lastsI think I wouldn't want to be a teenager again really!

Just remembered - I've done some washing and cleaned the loo so not completely idle!

swanriver · 22/05/2010 23:18

I have to say, I feel blessed NOT to be revising. for anything.

Dts communion books are lost, due to mixup at music school (they got put into the main lost property section - dunno if they will ever re-materialise) feel a bit down about the lack of control over THINGS, which is affecting dcs too. There are just soo many thousand of things I can lose or forget, and I do

But generally a nice day, teaching catechism, dcs music school, swimming, gardening, lovely picnicky lunch organised by kind dh, piano practice, Dr Who, bedroom hoovered. Dcs were helpful, and enjoyed laying new flowerbed

Biddy Tower - yes I should go there, despite living in London, still haven't...except once to a "function"at nearby hotel.
Optimistic exams can be quite exhilerating too in a way, once they are over that is burst of fireworks and all that
MrsD it is lovely going swimming in this weather, feels so natural [aah]
MrsB dd loves me with (manky)long hair, she keeps arranging it for me - but I really do need to cut it, like you

LinzerTorte · 23/05/2010 06:10

Morning all,

Distinct lack of flying yesterday as we were out all morning, it was the DDs' ballet show in the afternoon and we then had friends over for dinner. We're off to my in-laws today as it's a bank holiday here tomorrow; not sure yet whether we'll be coming back tomorrow or the day after (school is closed on Tuesday too). Just need to finish off some work and pack first...

Nettie Thanks for the sun; it looks like it may finally have arrived here .

swan I'm finding the DC quite exhausting atm too. DD2 had a tantrum after the ballet show yesterday because she wanted "a surprise"; they are too used to being given/bought things and I suspect they may get even more at their GPs today. Must get the discipline sorted out before we visit my parents in the summer, but I'm not sure it's manageable.

ellie Hope you had a lovely day yesterday. We have a holiday by the seaside planned in July - a 6 hour drive for us!

gormers Good luck with the revision - at least you're able to revise in the sunshine. We had rain here yesterday. Again.

MrsD Hope you manage to find DD's toy. I lost my favourite teddy when I was little and we looked everywhere for it (my mum even phoned the police, shops we'd been to, etc). It eventually surfaced several months later in the garden!

Biddy Hope you enjoy your trip to the Tower of London. I've never been, despite living in London for three years - and my parents refused to take me when I was little as it was too expensive...

MissB Not sure I'm looking forward to the teenager stage, although I often find myself thinking it must get easier (everyone tells me it doesn't; the problems are just different...)

Waves to everyone else; have a lovely day!

gormers · 23/05/2010 09:13

I'm sure when we have teenagers, the DH and I will still be doing our own exams for work! Never-ending! At least we'll always empathise with them!!

The FLY-ing by proxy worked well yesterday - would recommend it heartily! Even had a revision break to sort out the garden and help a bit with the packing.

Today, washing and clothes put away done already; bit more packing to do. But I'd really love to just be enjoying the sun with nothing else to do! Linzer - sorry you had rain, are you in this country? Hope it's better for you today.

Biddy - enjoy the tower; I went when I was 20 and at uni, under the guise of taking my (at the time) 10 year old brother, and I loved it!

Enjoy Sunday everybody!!xx

MrsDinky · 23/05/2010 21:49

Where is everyone? Hope you all had a nice day. We've just mooched around at home, with a little run out to the park after tea. DS has enjoyed running under the garden sprinkler. Not a lot else really.

Gormers like the Flying by Proxy idea. DD has taken to going round the bathroom in the morning with a flannel polishing all the shiny bits, so she's getting the hang of swish and swipe. What are you revising for?

Off out for the day tomorrow, so not much Flying likely, never mind. Night night all.

swanriver · 23/05/2010 23:03

mrsd no flying here, apart from washing up after lunch and final attack on laundry..
but lots of gardening
tip run

and kept tackling little things when big things defeated me, so that's something
also managed to cook the poor dh some supper after days of deli food
not managing food planning at all, or I am, but never actually cooking any of it and going for easy options

beautiful hot sunshine here!

NickOfTime · 24/05/2010 06:00

hello, have you got room for one more? i really do need some focus! i find cleaning really depressing - my house is such a pit and i seem to be unable to keep up with it.

dh is away with work this week, so i'm having to be a bit more organised as the dcs won't make it to school otherwise. am keeping on top of dishes etc, but i think if i can start getting into a better routine life will just get easier?

could you suggest two things that might help? i'm blardy rubbish. i'm trying to tackle a 'problem area' every other day or so - tomorrow is the fridge (i discovered 5 (count 'em) science experiment courgettes in the bottom today. it's also a really good day to clean the fridge as we are just about to run completely out of food (not quite true - i do have rice and couscous, so we won't starve). so tomorrow is fridge (first thing!) and then grocery store...

i like the idea of flying... but am a bit worried that after two days i'll be a weeping wuss in the corner. are you all finding it easy? how long have you been doing it?

NickOfTime · 24/05/2010 06:04

i should add, last week on two different occasions people called round when i wasn't expecting them... and i'm still mortified. we live in a very small place where everyone knows everyone else's business, and i need to clean up (literally) my act, i'm a bit concerned it's going to affect the dcs social lives as well as mine!

Nettiespagetti · 24/05/2010 07:37
