thank you

I got sick of heating up my hands with rubbish gloves and bought some fab ones from Lakeland,

Will try to find them

castille · 14/04/2010 18:05

heavy duty

Blackduck · 14/04/2010 18:05

here Ugly as hell, but you can pick up anything with these on...lakeland used to sell them

MaryBS · 14/04/2010 18:08

I bought these from Lakeland, although for some reason I can't find them on the Lakeland website. There are different sizes and styles, I've got ones that look like gloves, with fingers etc.

Only problem is, don't use them when wet as they then let the heat through, other than that, they're brilliant!

MaryBS · 14/04/2010 18:08

Snap, blackduck!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/04/2010 18:09

cool! ( groan at the pun!) bit worried that the kevlar ones would let hot liquid through (not that I'm paranoid or anything!) I see they do a waterproof one though.

castille - those somehow look reassuring!

Its not so much that they let hot liquid through, because they don't because they are so thick. Its more like if you drop them in the washing up water, and then try using them, like I did

trumpton · 14/04/2010 18:12

look at these
I am the world's worst at putting gloves on but these are so easy to use because of the shape and they have stopped me branding my wrists as they are good and long.

Had mine for years and years .

Blackduck · 14/04/2010 18:16

the cool skin ones are made of the material F1 drivers wear in case of accidents!! (how's that for a useless bit of info?)

muggglewump · 14/04/2010 18:17

I have these and they are fab. I bought my 85yr old Dad some too as they are much easier to use that mitt shaped ones.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/04/2010 18:17

they look snazzy trumpton somwhat pricey, but there again, each one is the cost of the train ticket to the burns unit!

oh excellent Mary aand Blackduck - they are thicker than they look?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/04/2010 18:20

looks like the kevlar/coolskins win then if its good enough for Hamilton.....

I think I shall order some.

would dd be able to them? (she says terribly nervously)

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/04/2010 18:21

be able to use them. doh.

MaryBS · 14/04/2010 18:22

How old is DD? Children can wear them, although it'd be a bit like them wearing gloves that are too big for them.

I used to chase my children round the kitchen with them, a bit like Jim Carey in Liar Liar, with "the claw"

Fliight · 14/04/2010 18:23

I have an older one called 'the baker's mitt'

it's very good and can be machine washed.

Can't remember where it came from though, was years ago!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/04/2010 18:24

she is 10

OP posts:
muggglewump · 14/04/2010 18:24

My DD is 8 and she uses them. I feel much happier with her using them as they stay on so much better than a mitt, plus they don't burn at all if she's taking a while to get something out of the oven.

Fliight · 14/04/2010 18:24

Lol

'ask the glove geek'

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/04/2010 18:35

Fliight eek!!!!!

just to check before I hand over my card details - has anyone ordered from that company directly as theyve not got a postal address on their website. (makes me a bit wary)

OP posts:
Fliight · 14/04/2010 18:36

Kitten, if you open the PDF about the product you fancy, it's got a freephone number to ring.
Looks trade to me, basically.

But might be happy to deal with retail?

Fliight · 14/04/2010 18:38

Mind you, my glove looks like those and I think it came from either Lakeland, Woolies or (shhh) Wilkinsons.

It was about a fiver. Had it several years anyway.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/04/2010 18:43

sorry fliight - being confusing, meant the coolskin ones!
I would have never in a million years spent proper money on oven gloves before, but I never ever want to go through the pain of a proper burn again and I think it will need some real protection for a while.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/04/2010 18:50

found some here which come to same price when delivered and from a company with an address.

muggglewump · 14/04/2010 18:53

The ones I have from Amazon are great, honest and no problems with Amazon being dodgy!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/04/2010 18:58

excellent and more affordable too! will let you know how I get on with them when I can start cooking again!
