Everyone welcome, newcomers and old(ish) flappers alike!

Here you can do any of the following:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering

As Christmas is approaching I will also be posting Christmas missions.

I'll post links early in the morning on the relevant day while I'm making the coffee and brewing tea. There might even be toast...

Good luck!

Hello - missing you all! Internet has been a nightmare and I felt rubbish not saying proper hellos so I disappeared instead! Can I try to come back? Still flying even without internet access although I think everything is a bit less shiny with out mumsnet support! Going to read some of your posts and see how you've been! Bit late for a list today!

tinselannabelltoo · 10/12/2009 17:33

I think I just changed my nickname, but I'm not sure it'll work!

Plutothatpresentdown · 10/12/2009 18:01

SC Mobiles, phone chargers and keys go in the kitchen drawer - the one that needs hot spotting every day. Our hall is too small for a little chest of drawers, otherwise I'd probably put them in there.

All other cord spaghetti goes in a big box (bought from the holding company) and lives in the office. DH binds the leads up with elastic bands. CDs that come with cameras get chucked but obviously important software is kept (in a desk drawer).

I came on here to check my to do list from this morning. Cards and wrapping is going to have to wait until tomorrow now. I seem to have spent all day unpacking the supermarket shop.

Welcome back tinselannabelltoo

MellieChristmas · 10/12/2009 18:22

Hope everyone is ok anD welcome back to anNAbel.

MrsDingDongMerrily · 10/12/2009 18:57

Evening all, welcome back Annabel

Quick post from me as I'm going out for a meal later.

SC keys are supposed to get hung up in a little box on the hall wall but are dumped on bookcase in hall. We each have a shoe box (will be replaced by baskets next time I get to Wilkos) on the shelf in the hall for all our going out bits and bobs (hairlsides/wallets/ipods etc). My lipsticks live high up on top of the key box so I can choose one and put it on every time I leave the house (even if the rest of me is scruffy, fell better with lippy).

Regularly used chargers (phone and camera) on a basket on kitchen counter. Others in a basket in the understairs cupboard. Other IT sort of crap in big box in same cupboard. Plastic boxes and baskets rule in my house.

We keep boxes from valuable/possibly resaleable items in the loft, everything else chucked out once we've made sure said item works.

Got to go, need to find something to wear tonight,

See you tomorrow

havingarudolphreindeer · 10/12/2009 19:45

Oh so busy,so busy. Trying to get organised and I think I'm getting somewhere. Will be listing to make myself feel better as the day has been a bit of a blur.

Annabel Nice to see and to see we have proof that MNing helps a clean house and not hinders it! yey

SC You seem to have the same issues that I have. Leads that we use regularly (camera/moblies) I keep in a drawer in the dining room but we still have loads of leads/charges in unspecified places. DP even has a box in the loft of tangle wires and leads that he keeps saying he is going to take to school for a detention job . If anyone has any ideas please help. Keys we hang up but mobile and wallet for DP are always lying around.

PA Hope you had a better day as that sounded awful - I would've been savage!

Pluto I also need to clean water filter, do I dare admit is going green

So, I bought a Christmas Tree today I am proud, I also achieved the following

WM loaded and put on airer and taken off
Picked up wallpaper table from Mum
Sainsburys shop done and put away
S & S
Chose some food to cook for Christmas entertaining
Meat list for Christmas
Made bed
Tidy kitchen
Tidy DR/lounge
Christmas card list done

Not bad really

Bit of a day off tomorrow. I have a babysitter for a few hours and am going Christmas shopping and for a massage - aaaaaaaaah

havingarudolphreindeer · 10/12/2009 19:51

x-post with MrsDD LOVE the shoebox idea - all sounds very organised. Will be stealing this when a bit more sorted!

StainlessSteelCat · 10/12/2009 21:10

Have finally had time to sit own, read the thread and catch up a bit! Lots of useful tips about cables - we have 2 PCs in the kitchen and all the chargers live in, on or around them. In a parallel universe I have worked out which gadgets can be charged via USB and have stored their leads in the loft in a amrked box. In reality, my phone gets charged by USB cable, everything else is DP's problem, and he has a big plastic aba of leads under his desk.

Keys are on top of drawers by front door. Mobiles are wherever we abandon them. I keep all my junk useful stuff in a bag hanging up in hall cupboard.

I'm still just about keeping up with the baby steps. Xmas however is going to have to sort itself out! Off to check my sink, and then watch TV for a while ... night night all, see you tomorrow

mummyclaus · 10/12/2009 21:17

Hello everyone and welcome back Annabel

Not much going on here tonight. Was late home as had osteopath appointment after work so ache as well. DS in bed but not asleep yet so think I will make some Christmas cards and get to bed. I swished & swiped this morning so just need to put washing on airer, put DW on and shine my sink. Oh and I need to eat as well.

I will have a think about my suggestions for flying and working FT and probably post something over the weekend. If anyone has any suggestions for working from home and flying without getting distracted, could you do the same for me please?

I'll leave a vat of wine out & some nuts. See you tomorrow

pushmepullssantassleigh · 10/12/2009 22:05

Evening everyone

10 hours of work here today so not much flying done, although I have kept on top of routines and house finances and hoovered the living room so not a complete disaster.

Haven't managed to catch up with the thread yet but just popping on to say PF your hole in the road story just made me spit beer tea on my keyboard. Still feeling your pain on the inconvenience, but..... I genuinely haven't laughed so much in a while.

Took DD to the doctors today as she has an oddly twisted foot, so she's off to physio in the new year. She also has blue whites to her eyes, which can be a symptom of brittle bone disease, but hopefully isn't. Dr basically said they'd look in to it if she started breaking things (bones presumably rather than crockery as she seems to be pretty good at that already).

Welcome back Annabel.

SC I bought some reasonably attractive storage boxes from ikea and have designated one for electrical equipment on the tidy shelf of the cupboard of doom.

Hi to Mellie, Mrsdingdong, HAreindeer, SSC and everyone else and thanks for the wine and nuts MC

pushmepullssantassleigh · 10/12/2009 22:06

Oops hello Pluto too

SantasBigboots · 10/12/2009 23:30

Have slipped a bit over the last couple of days so big catch up tomorrow methinks - see Mellie and HARR it didn't last long!

Today I have:
Cleaned out the Guinea Pigs
Am still trying in vain to get to the end of the washing
Marked coursework
Taught 2 lessons
Met DH for lunch
Gone to school Christmas Concert

Not very impressive is it?

mummyclaus · 11/12/2009 06:34

Good morning all!

Boots what you acheived yesterday was fine. Lunch and concert would have taken quite a chunk out of your day so be kind to yourself and just decide to have a good day today

Its a catch-up babystep today

Today's mission is mopping the kitchen floor

The Christmas mission is wrapping and decorating (that's assuming you have something to wrap)

Have a good Friday!

PositivelyFestive · 11/12/2009 07:44

Morning Ladies,

I am so pleased that you have found my stupidity misfortune so amusing, Pushme and MrsDingDong When IF I phone the council again I will have to become Mrs Smith. I am having to scuttle inside and avoid my neighbours as they are all up in arms about the lack of any notice about this huge inconvenience. I am keeping quiet! Although, I think one lovely neighbour has spoken to the men about the fact that DD3 cannot get up the road and I also tried to placate the workmen yesterday with a tray of tea and biscuit - Then asked if they could move the digger and let me get to my drive.

I am so glad I am not the only one with spaghetti mounds of chargers around the house. We have a big drawer with most of them in, the kids have their phone chargers in their rooms and mine's in kitchen, DH is in his study. The drawer is only bravely opened in emergencies as an hour could be spent extricating (long word for this time of the morning, are you impressed? ) the wire you need. I laughed at the idea of it being a detention punishment. Do you think I could take my drawer to a local school and suggest the same? Perhaps the council could help me ....Mrs Smith!

Right, back on track!

75% success rate yesterday with my to-do list. A successful shopping trip - I even remembered the cards! The only thing left to do is the phone call for the hoover. Must do today! CAt poo has been removed form behind the freezer and I have just dragged him out and kicked him outside in the freezing cold opened the back door for him to encourage poo-ing outside! CAts are wonderful, I wouldn't have any other pets!

Right, must go and tackle my sandwich marathon .....roll on school holidays! Have a good day everyone.

SantasBigboots · 11/12/2009 07:54

So glad of babystep catch up day and floor mopping mission as that was on my to do list anyway! Have a clear day today apart from preening for DH's Xmas party tonight, so hoping to clear my list (so babysitter is stunned by wondrously sparkly house - rather than wondering if it is safe to use the toilet )

Today I will:
Mop kitchen floor
Change beds
Sweep and scrub yard
Swish and swipe bathrooms
Hoover through
Finish washing/ironing
Order final load of presents
Finish writing xmas cards
Wax legs
Paint nails

!!!!![hmm}

StainlessSteelCat · 11/12/2009 08:19

Morning!

RIght, determined to get back on track. Spent last night properly reading up on baby steps I've missed, and I need to catch up ... and today seems like a good day!

babysteps : catch up
mission : oh god, does it need it
other:
tumbletots with DS
walk to shops to: order xmas food (if not too late...), return library books, buy lunch, buy supper, take out cash to pay plasterer
washing x2 loads
hoover entire house (cf plasterer)
make xmas pudding
soak fruit for xmas cake

Seem to be franitcally running to keep still at the moment, so hopefully today I will get through this list! wishing you all a lovely friday

mrsgrumpygruffalo · 11/12/2009 10:32

Morning all

Well yesterday turned into one of those days but my sink is shiny so I'm a happy bunny!

Highlight of yesterday was the school carol concert, it was Ds2's first and he was a snowman, so cute. Ds1 has been refusing to tell me what he was doing in the concert saying I'd have to wait and see, I was so proud that he was centre stage of the choir and had a small solo (a real acheivement as he has confidence issues), I'm tearing up just writing about it, someone pass a tissue please!

Pushmepullsantassleigh you can call me mrsgrumpy, it would be a very accurate description some days!! I think I need a christmas name maybe mrsjollygruffalo or mrsjinglygruffalo? Will have to think about that.

positivelyfestive sending you loads of vodka and wine and sympathy about your road. We had the same joy earlier in the year. Water people sent a letter to say they would be doing works but then turned up dug loads of big holes totally blocking one end of our street and partially blocking the other and then dissapeared for 3 weeks! They then came back dug some more holes, put up some traffic lights and dissapeared again for 2 weeks!!! The water companys number is burned in my brain from ringing them so many times.

cadmum hope your Ds is feeling better. I too dread the visit from my Mum and the comments on the state of the house , I sweetly smile & hand her a duster

Mummyclaus I too need help staying focused working at home, I am distracted by anything and everything.

talking about distractions, I really better get on, loads to do today and my biggest critic Mum is coming over this afternoon, kids are staying with them for the weekend while I do a big 2 day craft fair so things to do;

Shine sink
Pack kids weekend bags.
Clean downstairs bathroom (mother is bound to comment).
Pick up toys from lounge floor.
Wipe down kitchen worktops.
Hoover all downstairs.
Frantic last minute dash to shove clutter into cupboards before parents arrive!

big wave to everyone

QueenofDreams · 11/12/2009 11:13

hi everyone. sorry I've been awol, I have connection probs at the moment.
I've kept cleaning in the spirit of the fat fairy, but I'm not sure I can actually call it flying as such. I just do things as and when ds gives me time to.
Really HAVE to get this place clean quickly now, as we've been given notice to move out of the house. argh. Bad timing, and we can't afford to move but have no choice.
sorry not to say proper hellos. rushing off to eat now and then tackle the dining room [eek]

PositivelyFestive · 11/12/2009 11:31

MrsGrumpy - not dwelling on the fact that I may have holes and no access over Christmas - You've cheered me up no end!

mrsgrumpygruffalo · 11/12/2009 13:07

Positivelyfestive Oh No! Didn't mean to send you into a hole related depression take more vodka and wine and abit more vodka I think our water men took so long because the works happened to coincide with the small amount of hot weather we had and they were out sunbathing somewhere!!

PositivelyFestive · 11/12/2009 13:57

Thats alright then! Unless their name is Jack Frost I should be safe!

Plutothatpresentdown · 11/12/2009 13:59

MrsGG -ooh I do love a craft fair at Christmas. Are you selling or buying?

Funny old day here - but house is OK.

2 loads in w/m and 1 to go
d/w emptied and reloaded
sausage casserole made for tonight

still not got any cards for relies - I must do this tomorrow.
Aiming to wrap presents later before Ds1 gets back from school.

DH is out with his buddies tonight so I expect to spend a lot of time mumsnetting flying.

All this talk of holes in the road reminds me of the time when we had such a big, deep hole in the road from gasworks the Tesco delivery van drove right into it. All you could see was the tail end sticking out. The poor driver was OK but his truck had to be winched out with a little crane on the recovery vehicle. Looking back it was actually quite :0
