My old one packed up recently and just got a new one. Its a Zanussi ZWF16281w. I am very happy with it. With my old machines I only ever used one or two programmes so wanted a very simple one to use. This fits the bill. Theres just too many to choose from isnt there!

Dlamis · 27/11/2009 14:46

I have a Meile. Expensive but good quality - would definately recommend it. We have had it several years now, no problems with it . The old hotpoint we had before it though conked out 2 days after the warranty expired and at regular intervals afterwards till i gave up with it

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 27/11/2009 14:50

Miele too, got a 10 year guarantee 9 years ago (got it in Selfridges sale for £1000) - nothing has gone wrong with it yet.

I love it.

ilovepiccolina · 27/11/2009 14:50

The Dyson. Just the basic one, but it's fab - big enough to take a double duvet! It is very quiet, and very quick - 40 mins for a normal, synthetics wash.

There's a website called IIRC Washer Help, & Dyson, Bosch & Miele are recommended.

mrstimlovejoy · 27/11/2009 17:48

thanks all
piccolina i'll have a look at that website

I have a Zanussi XC washer/dryer and it has been brilliant since buying 5 years ago (think it was recommenedded by Which or GH magazine) - either way, would deffo recommend

scaryknickers · 27/11/2009 23:27

Mine is a Zanussi too, but atm is broken and as I work 50 hours a week am running out of knickers...eek!

WhineMaiden · 27/11/2009 23:29

You lot with ya Miele's and Dysons, washing machine porn I tell ye

cheesesarnie · 27/11/2009 23:33

candy i think.dont know-we dislike each other

ilovepiccolina · 28/11/2009 13:12

Laurie - lol! So much more reliable than some men!

I had a Candy. It sounded like a train, the wash took about 2 hours and the machine lasted about 2 years. Then I got the Dyson... I like its simple programming - you choose your material (cotton, synthetics, hand wash !!), then your temperature, then one of three buttons, from whether you want it scrubbed to within an inch of its life or just a 'freshen up'. You can also pause the programme if you need to shove something else in.

Its secret is that it has two drums, which go in opposite directions to each other so imitates hand-washing, rather than the clothes just flopping around. Dyson come & fit it for you. (I have sung its praises to so many random people I should be on a commission!)

The only drawback is that it's a big machine at the front, it sticks out a bit (though normal width.)

NorbertDentressangle · 28/11/2009 13:15

We have a Bosch which has been great.

My only complaint is that it beeps when its finished which is a tad annoying.

clarea1 · 28/11/2009 13:17

miele here too. 10yr garuntee parts & labour, fab, fab, fab!

bronze · 28/11/2009 13:35

an LG
my first washing machine. Had it nearly 9 years and still going strong. Does at least 3 loads a day so well used

castille · 28/11/2009 13:45

First one was a Candy and it was utter shite, it never worked properly from the start.

Now we have a fabola Miele.

dexter73 · 28/11/2009 14:08

I have a whirlpool and it seems fine. I have had it 5 years and it hasn't gone wrong and washes well.

mamijacacalys · 28/11/2009 14:28

I have a Candy that is 7 years old... can't fault it really as has been hammered and nothing has gone wrong until yesterday when the door fell off (luckily at the end of the cycle when I opened it, not mid wash).
DH came home and declared it was fixable, and is at the spare parts shop as we speak...
In the meantime though, I had been eyeing up washing machine porn on the net ...
My aunt has the Dyson and raves about it so was quite fancying that, or otherwise a John Lewis own brand machine as it has a 3-year warranty. Would still consider Candy given the bargainous price and the good performance of my current machine so checked Which and the Candy GO482 gets a good rating.

Poledra · 28/11/2009 14:33

I have an Indesit which is 17 years old! It's been with since I lived on my own, then has gradually learned to cope with DH then 3 DDs washing also I thought it had finally expired a few months ago, when it leaked all over the futiloity room twice, but DH tightened up the hoses on the back and off it went again.

Since the leak, the trust has gone though - I don't dare leave it to wash when I'm not in the house. Not sure how you get the trust back in a relationship after that.....

scottishmummy · 28/11/2009 14:35

smeg. v reliable

MissAnneElk · 28/11/2009 14:35

I have an LG direct drive. Have only had it for a couple of months, but pleased with it. Much more efficient than the Bosch it replaced.

Norbert, you can switch off the beeping at the end of the programme by simultaneously pressing and holding two of the buttons. Can't remember exactly which ones - 2 and 3 or 3 and 4 I think. Press and hold until it makes beeping sound and keep holding until it stops. I used to regularly press mine by mistake by leaning against it and the manual doesn't tell you how to switch it off.

bebesequin · 28/11/2009 20:34

New LG BLACK takes big load but normal size machine. My mum had a miele which lasted 18 years sold it with her house so may still be going strong

BikeRunSki · 28/11/2009 20:40

What Norbert says. It is 9 years old and has coped with construction site gear and sports kit admitably for that time, and nappies for the last 15 months.

bluebump · 28/11/2009 20:48

A Haier - never heard of it have you? Neither had we, turns out it is as cheap and rubbish as I assumed it would be!

CMOTdibbler · 28/11/2009 20:51

Miele - was fed up of having naff washing machines, and it is blardy lovely

MadameMoo · 28/11/2009 20:52

I've got a Miele. They are truly the best washing machines and generally work for at least 15 years if not a lot longer...

Bonsoir · 28/11/2009 20:53

Siemens. This is (only) my second washing machine. Both Siemens. I only buy Siemens - dishwasher, dryer, fridge-freezer as well as washing machine. They are fantastic.
