Mine is in need of an massively urgent update after just moving in. It's circa 1979 (with original appliances and handbooks and is a gorgeous shade of olive green!)

So what would you have in your kitchen?

Also add in a log burner and some beautiful antiques - dressers and sideboards.
I love that mix in a kitchen. Sleek units with old bits and pieces. Lovely.

CybilLiberty · 25/09/2009 19:22

We have an instant 'boiling' water tap at work, but it's never quite hot enough for a good cuppa. Fine for coffee though.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 25/09/2009 19:27

Lacanche range Sigh

noddyholder · 25/09/2009 19:43

I have two open fires and a mixture of ikea and reclaimed oak I like that mix too.have ahuge table which is the centre of everything and a few indian bits and pieces

Sillyworry · 25/09/2009 19:47

A walk in larder that is cool enough to store potatoes without the sporting or going green, keeps bread fresh. A huge cupboard to contain dinner plates, side plates, pudding bowls & dessert bowls coffee cups the works & a draw for the posh cutlery set.

RorysRacingMa · 25/09/2009 19:54

balloonslayer -fisher and paykel do a two drawer dishwasher so you can do exactly that. It's also the only kosher dishwasher....

WreckOfTheHesperus · 25/09/2009 19:55

Strong vote for induction hobs here;I'm a recent convert; like gas in terms of reaction speed, but a guzillion times easier to clean, and blends in well with black granite work top.

Also TV is a must....

LittleWhiteWolf · 25/09/2009 19:58

A range cooker.
A kitchen island thing.
Pots and pans hanging from the ceiling.
A larder full of stuff.
Designated 'areas' i.e. a baking area, a cooking area, a washing area.
A bread maker, ice cream maker, blender etc.
Light units in a pale wood...

Oh I can dream...!

twirlymum · 25/09/2009 20:10

Lots of wine. And chocolate.

sockmonkey · 25/09/2009 20:24

A nice pantry/larder with lots of shelves
glide-y drawers
American stlye fridge with water dispenser
Lemon Drizzle Cake
Brownies

navyeyelasH · 25/09/2009 20:31

with the boiling hot taps - we had a quooker one at one point and found it made tea taste funny and flas like?

Induction hob and pan drawers are a must!

Missmodular · 25/09/2009 20:43

Ooh, we've just had ours done. We went for white gloss floor units and black gloss wall units, a fake walnut work surface and kiwi green tiles. We also had a larder built but it's ended up having all the crap that doesn't fit in the shed stored in there at the moment . I love it, but it's an acquired taste

Not sure about a hot water tap - I think it would remind me of the old urn they had where I used to work - it was all lime-scaley and manky. What's wrong with waiting two minutes for the kettle to boil?

2msmum · 25/09/2009 21:06

with cupboards so big my I no longer need a jenga cupboard that everyting fall out of when opened.

abra1d · 25/09/2009 21:40

And obviously a handsome young man who does the actual darn COOKING (and shopping).

And pulls out my chair and pours my wine for me.

DuchessOfAvon · 25/09/2009 22:19

Yes to Fisher & Paykel dish drawers - want them, want them.

I have inherited a Belfast sink and HATE it -it stains as soon as you pour anything other than boiling hot fresh water into it and it takes an age to clean. And its too low down so its ucomfortable to use. Me no like.

slapheadsrock · 25/09/2009 22:38

After beginning our kitchen 13 weeks ago, and spending the time since then doing laundry at friends houses and washing up in the bath, I would settle for ANY sink, dishwasher and washing machine!!

Had enough now, although what is done looks loverly

That's what you get for letting DH talk you into letting him do the plumbing and worktops, when you know he is just an expert couch potato, not a plumber!

We put in new kitchen recently. Quite a basic B & Q one but looks great. Just to note that when I was looking at all the kitchen brochures etc. I can't remember who did it but I saw one that had a "magic" cupboard with a drying rack for clothes in. Basically you hang your clothes in after they've been washed and they come out of the magic cupboard dried and as if they've been ironed. Can you imagine!!

RubyBlueberry · 26/09/2009 00:11

OK. I want EVERYTHING you have already said, especially the magic cupboard and the hot water tap (except the buff butler cos my DH is quite enought for one lay ta very much)
Am off to Ikea tomorrow to dream!!

Just to say, you do know that tiles and splashbacks aren't actually compulsory? Decent paint and a recoat every 5 2 years is just as good...

BananaPudding · 26/09/2009 02:02

What's so great about American fridges? Several posts mention them glowingly.

stressed2007 · 26/09/2009 06:35

hi - I am also having my kitchen done - no idea where to start. Can anyone please point me in the direction of an instant boiling tap please?

stressed2007 · 26/09/2009 06:53

I have an aga and hate it (it is going in my kichen refit) - just not got on with it but intrigued as to what:

"An Aga and companion electric halogen module" is?

stressed2007 · 26/09/2009 07:01

and what is an induction hob? I can see I am going to have great fun with this project.
