Mine is in need of an massively urgent update after just moving in. It's circa 1979 (with original appliances and handbooks and is a gorgeous shade of olive green!)

So what would you have in your kitchen?

I did get lots of Ebay bargains though (the Rangemaster and hood, both brand new, for under £1,000)

HeadFairy · 25/09/2009 16:35

Ah you see, every day I curse my ebay virginity!

navyeyelasH · 25/09/2009 16:42

I got my kitchen from wickes and they forgot to include mine cybil - need to get a refund now!

JulesJules · 25/09/2009 16:44

Breadmaker and laptop (for MN) surely?

RubyBlueberry · 25/09/2009 16:50

Also a TV for secret Cbeebies Andy stalking watching and spider repellent floors

Just the man will do for me....(in an apron). And a big smeg.

BalloonSlayer · 25/09/2009 17:01

We are having our kitchen done soon and I am trying to get up the nerve to have my fantasy - two dishwashers.

If you have two, you see, you don't have to empty them. You just use the clean stuff out of one and put it dirty into the other.

Saves on cupboard space too.

Do you dare me...?

andirobobo · 25/09/2009 17:07

Just had my kitchen done and the best thing we have is 1m long drawers - there are three of them under the hob - top one for cutlery, middle one has plates and lower one has cooking pans in. It is great as I can find everything really easily. It is a standard thing now that most kitchen ranges do, but wasnt very expensive. I can empty the dishwasher very quickly now!

warthog · 25/09/2009 17:10

i have two dishwashers. half size obv.

and a boiling tap

they are wonderful.

LyraSilvertongue · 25/09/2009 17:47

Andirobobo, I have six 1m drawers with soft-close action, some shallow, some deep. I've got all my plates, cups, bowls, pans, cutlery, plastic storage boxes other bits and bobs in them. So much more handy that cupboards.

BalloonSlayer · 25/09/2009 17:48

why half-size, warthog?

Does it just work better like that?

shockers · 25/09/2009 17:55

I've been looking at boiling taps... you recommend then?
I get the idea about the dishwashers... why put a big one on when you only have half the pots, but when you've done a big meal...

Personally I would have David Mitchell in MY kitchen...

PortBlacksandResident · 25/09/2009 17:58

Gin

Ekka · 25/09/2009 18:03

Get drawers under the hob to store your pots & pans - no more grovelling in the cupboards for that elusive pan....

GinSlinger · 25/09/2009 18:10

large kitchen table
proper larder with shelving
radio that belongs in the kitchen and is not stolen by people who think that their need is greater

decent storage area for wine

warthog · 25/09/2009 18:12

just because of space limitations baloonslayer. no other reason. full size would be better!

warthog · 25/09/2009 18:14

i would definitely recommend a boiling tap, although it's a lot more expensive than a kettle!

BUT it costs very little to run as water is pressurized and insulated. only warm to the touch. and you NEVER have to wait! kettle you're boiling more water than you need at very high wattage. very expensive to run. not economical.

as to whether a boiling tap is cheaper in the long run i really don't know. but i LOVE mine. apart from the dishwashers, it has made the biggest difference to my life.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 25/09/2009 18:21

I'm intrigued by the boiling water tap - must look into that.

My dream kitchen has
An Aga and companion electric halogen module
Large pantry
Attached large utility room
dishwasher
sink with double drainer
lots of storage
marble slab built into work surface fr pastry making
large table
Welsh dresser

OtterInaSkoda · 25/09/2009 18:28

Jean Christophe Novelli.

goodbyesunhellomoon · 25/09/2009 18:29

range cooker
integrated coffee machine
american fridge/freezer
filtered drinking water tap plus boiling tap
glass door wine fridge
Large counter/island/breakfast bar thing with tall stools
10 seater long dining table
french doors that open up onto decked patio/bbq area
Utility room
Gorgeous stone floor
Cool design/wallpaper
God the list is endless....I've really been thinking about this a bit too much

My reality is I live in such a tiny flat at the moment that it could almost be classed as a room and kitchen! And it's nothing like my fantasy!

abra1d · 25/09/2009 18:32

Well OBVIOUSLY a wine rack and special wine chiller. And some glasses. And wine.

Bespoke chocolate storage unit.

SpangleMaker · 25/09/2009 18:33

I am very lucky as DH has his own business designing posh kitchens so our kitchen is lovely, though was shockingly expensive even at trade prices as DH is obsessed and refused to compromise. My fave features are the Dorn Bracht spray tap, orange glass splashback, stainless steel curved wall units and Corian & glitterstone worktops. The plinth drawers are good too, meaning no wasted space under units.

If we had more space & infinite cash I would have a steam oven, warming drawers, boiling tap and huuuuuge wine cooler

HerHonesty · 25/09/2009 18:42

an aga. and a permanent butler in the buff.

Romanarama · 25/09/2009 18:52

My favourite things in my kitchen are:

  • the tap that you can pull out as it extends on a sort of shower pipe, and you can also make it a shower spray. Easy to fill up the kettle and pots while they're on the side, and great for rinsing dishes.
  • the massive drawers for pots and pans - easy to find everything
  • the glidy smooth drawers.
  • double sink - washing up is easier
  • dishwasher with a 30min programme
  • high-up oven
  • microwave with jet defrost

DCs favourite thing is the auto ice maker in the fridge.

If I could have everything I'd have a walk-in pantry, a boiling tap, a fizzy water tap, a marble counter top, and a better arrangement for all the recycling bins. And a butler, but with clothes on.

noddyholder · 25/09/2009 18:53
