How often do you change dish clothes and t-towels?

Just out of interest. Want to know if I should be doing it more often.....
I change washing up sponge once a week, t-towels daily.
But am unsure if I should change my counter-top cloth every day, every couple of days or once a week......
Interesting isn't it?
Don't I know how to live it up on a saturday night?

everyday

Goober · 23/05/2009 19:37

Both: every day, sometime more with tea towel, depending on how wet/ dirty it gets.

nickytwotimes · 23/05/2009 19:41

Everyday too, though I don't use a sponge - just a cloth.

Lol at living it up on a Saturday!

Goober · 23/05/2009 19:43

Oh, and sponge goes in the dishwasher every day.

TheProvincialLady · 23/05/2009 19:44

Several times a day. They are all washable so I just wash 'em a lot. I can't bear damp, crumby, germy cloths.

It does lead to a fair amount of shame whilst they are on the line drying though. They are very, very threadbare I can imagine the students next door feeling sorry for us!

It's no wonder we're going to have an energy crisis ...

gibbberish · 23/05/2009 19:45

Every day. Use disposable cloths (which probably isn't very eco friendly thinking about it .

giraffesCantRunA10k · 23/05/2009 19:50

whenever I am doing a was I just stick the cloths in, they dont take up much room.

And I dont even own any tea towels I go for the lazy environmentally friendly drip dry option

holdingittogether · 23/05/2009 19:52

I soak my cloth kitchen cloth and washing up brush in dilute bleach every day or so. I throw it away at the end of the week. I buy the cheap jay cloth type ones. My tea towel hardly gets used so I change that when ever is needs it so could be a week or could be after only a day.

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2009 19:54

i just use tons of cloths - chuck about 10 in the washer every day probably
you can't reuse the same one on baby's highchair once you have wiped floor / round sink etc

holdingittogether · 23/05/2009 19:59

I also end up using kitchen towel and antibac spray alot too when the job is either too dirty for kitchen cloth or kitchen cloth is not hygienic enough e.g high chair table etc

littleboyblue · 23/05/2009 20:02

Thanks.
Franny I use anti-bac spray and kitchen roll on the baby things

Maybe I am being a bit slack then, keeping my counter cloth for a few days
I used to use disposable ones that I'd buy on a roll and just throw them away, but thought it was quite a waste. I only wash up once sometimes twice a day, and never put anything directly on counters, so doesn't get 'dirty' dirty.
giraffes I suppose you're right, they don't take up much room. I have enough that I could just wash them every time....

aaargh not anti bac on baby things
not triclosan is it?
hot soapy water would be much better i promise

FabulousBakerGirl · 23/05/2009 20:06

Numerous times a day at times.

FabulousBakerGirl · 23/05/2009 20:07

Anti bac on counters where you stand baby bottles will erode the bottom of the bottles.

littleboyblue · 23/05/2009 20:16

Really Fran and baker?
I use spray and paper towels on highchair just because it's easy and quick.
I stand the bottles on a sheet of kitchen roll when they come out of the steriliser anyway, so they don't actually touch the counter directly

I change counter-top and washing-up cloths after every use. I change towels once a day, and tea-towels every couple of days (they don't get much use).
DH keeps a horrible manky sponge for at least a week. I think he does it on purpose because he knows I won't let it anywhere near the washing up!!
If he cleans the table with it, I squirt the table with antibac spray afterwards .

To my mothers eternal shame I don't have tea towels, I just have one dish towel at a time which I use to dry the pans, wipe the surface, wipe the floor (if baby has been involved) and then goes into a 60 wash (I have about 15 dish towels and do a 60 or 90 wash every 3/4 days)

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2009 20:32

some info on anti bac

I bought tons of cheap face cloths from Wilkos (5 for a £1). We use them for faces, tables, floors, work surfaces, washing up, you name it, they are used for it. When used I pop in the washing machine and when I am doing a wash they get washed with it.

Teatowels get put in every day or so, depending on what they have been used for, again no seperate washes, they get put in with what ever else is being washed.

I use Stardrops for spraying around surfaces if I need a bit more oomff than washing up liquid.

Portillista · 23/05/2009 20:55

MrsGW - I bought them too!
I heart Wilko.

TheMadHouse · 23/05/2009 20:57

I have microfibre cloths and they are great - defo recomend them - they are called no more chemicals and morrisons often has them on offer at 99p each. Dont need any nasty chemicals I have a spray bottle with water nad lavinder oil or tea tree oil in and use them for everything. They even get the crap off out trip traps.

I thought that a little muck never hurt anyone adn the only time I ever use chemicals is after a V&D attack.

I change them daily, but only wash them when I have a number - they need no softner - so I wash with towels.

Tea towels I tend to chage when too wet or daily.

I buy a chepo pack of sponges from Aldi and bung in the dishwasher on a night & tend to use a pack every two weeks.
