Just out of interest. Want to know if I should be doing it more often.....
I change washing up sponge once a week, t-towels daily.
But am unsure if I should change my counter-top cloth every day, every couple of days or once a week......
Interesting isn't it?
Don't I know how to live it up on a saturday night?

What would you use a dish cloth for? Don't most people use sponges or washing up brushes for dishes, or a dishwasher? Anyway, I don't have them. I do have tea towels but I only use them to soak up spills on carpet (on hard surfaces I use the mop) and then I bung them straight in with the next wash.

TheMadHouse · 23/05/2009 21:01

I use a dishcloth for wiping surfaces and a sponge for washing up

peachsmuggler · 23/05/2009 21:01

Have 1 sponge for washing dishes, 1 cloth for baby high chair, one cloth for work tops and these go in the wash every night.

Teatowels...hmmm every couple of days.

Saw Kim and Aggie say you should put them all in ther sink each night with hot water and washing up liquid, but if you are like me the washing machine is on all the bleedin' time anyway so just as easy to stick them in!

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2009 21:32

i use for:
wiping surfaces in kitchen
cleaning cooker
washing windows
dusting
cleaning floors
cleaning bath and sink and toilet
cleaning table and highchair

blithedance · 23/05/2009 21:53

In theory I would put dishcloth and tea towel in the wash each night but it tends to slip like all the housekeeping when I'm busy.

I don't have a dishwasher and use a dishcloth, green scourer and brush as my wash-up tools. I really don't like sponges for some reason.

muggglewump · 23/05/2009 21:56

Washing up sponge-weekly. I put a splodge of anti bac WUL on it each night and squidge in.

Tea-Towel-Daily but it's mainly used as a handtowel!

littleboyblue · 23/05/2009 22:06

Mad I'm the same as you, dish cloth to wipe down sides.
This thread has also got me thinking about the amount of chemicals I use. It would be handy to have one product for everything, as I use an anti-bac spray on suraces, a different one for floors and so on, so maybe I should use water and tea tree oil instead. That has an anti-bacterial agent doesn't it?

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2009 22:30

or you could just live life on the edge and let a few bacteria creep in?

littleboyblue · 23/05/2009 22:32

I could, couldn't I? Just live the crazy life and rebel against what I've always done or tried to....
Thanks for that link earlier btw, was quite interesting.

yes go on
be daring
i think that link pointed out that most bacteria are either harmless or beneficial, and that wiping them all out makes way for disease....

oh good lord. Me and my family are clearly going to be consumed by bugs any minute now.

We change the tea towel every couple of days 'cos we tend not to dry up but put everything away when it's dry. The sponge lasts for ages and is used to wipe around everywhere. Then we have a scrubby sponge to clean the dishes (no dishwasher) and that lasts until all the green stuff has started to fall off.

I'm flabbergasted at daily changes of cloths and sponges!

Rumpel · 23/05/2009 22:46

I have a tea towel for hands - change when wet or every 2-3 days. tea towel for dishes but let then drip dry so change every 4 days or so. Use a sponge for cleaning dishes etc - change every few weeks, use old reusable nappies for cloth to wipe sink etc and wash every couple of days.

I mainly use washing up liquid for everything - including cleaning out bathroom. Use disinfectant for toilet seat and mop with disenfectant for floor. I must be a minger!! [shame] Use anti-bac very occasionally - my 2 Dc are stinkers!!!LOL

littleboyblue · 23/05/2009 22:54

MrsGW Thanks for that. They all sounded pretty excited about it......never heard of it, will keep my eyes open though and gie it a try

I have found mine in Wilkinsons . My local Sainsbury's and Tesco's sell it too. Not usually very prominent on the shelves.

FigmentOfYourImagination · 24/05/2009 09:58

I put washing up sponge is dishwasher once every couple of days, change it for a new one probably one a fortnight.

Teatowels are changed daily.

Gorionine · 24/05/2009 10:03

I change the washing up sponge once a week, the cloth that I use for work surfaces every day and towels when they need it which can vary from twice a day to every other day depending on what the dcs use them for.

Starbear · 24/05/2009 10:06

Tea-towels & cloths, almost everyday.
Sponge when it wears-out! Would love to use washing-uo liquid for everything, as I feel its cleaner for being washed. Products I use Bleach for toilets. Flash for floors. Cif for bathroom. Pledge for furniture. Dettol spray and liquid for everything else. Not keen on sprays but handy sometimes
