swanriver · 23/04/2009 09:14

Good morning TMH and Gibberish
today is not going so well...
dd is having major tantrum about everything - taken others to school, still have to get her out from under the bed and take her and me and her I think...
Swimming went well yesterday and we had a nice quiet evening with no beavers or brownies as not on..
so don't know why she is so extremely frazzled. I think brothers wind her up, and well everything really..
Anyway feeling calmer having vented to flyladies, going to take her to school and then have to go to work at 9.30.

TheMadHouse · 23/04/2009 09:18

Morning Gib How was DD's time out yesterday? I am glad she is healing well. I have hit a bit of a stalemate - still not healed right.

I am back at the hopspital this morning nad I am taking DS2 with me, friend is collecting DS1 from Preschool. I WANT to go swimming, but can not with the wounds like this

To Do

Washer
Hang out
Whats for Lunch and Dinner
Change DS2's bedding
Mission
Play in the sun - most imporatant

Jas I am so glad that DS enjoyed nursery, it is lovley when they have fun. DS1 is so like that.

I foind out if we get into a preffered Primary school tomorrow for DS1 - I am a little nervous. It is the only one we can walk too, the rest are a car ride away

swanriver · 23/04/2009 09:24

Hope hospital goes well, and that sets ds2 mind at rest even if it is fractious business taking him along.
Poor you with swimming, and wounds. Fingers crossed for primary. If you could not drive what would they expect you to do to take them to school?
I think I can hear dd emerging from under bed and talking to cat, thank goodness.

EHM · 23/04/2009 09:33

Morning ALL TMH thanks for thread.hope hospital goes ok.Hope you get school you prefer. The whole process is doing my head in at this end.
gibb enjoy the wii fits
swan hope dd is ok? They don't care here if you can drive or not some kids are being sent 1-2 miles away to school as they are so over subscribed.

Sorry I've been awol last few days visited 2 schools, listing items on ebay & sorting ellies winter/summer clothes. Today we are going to weed the garden & general/tidy clean garden. Ellie is a bot confused by this as she told me "mummy we don't wee in the garden silly!'

Have a good day ladies I will try & catch up on the other tread later.

swanriver · 23/04/2009 09:53

Dd is happily back in classroom! cuddle hot choc and ignoring has done the trick.

A few words of comfort, 2 friends who didn't get into local school, and ended up a bit further afield (inconvenient, not first choice etc) just took the line that they would hold out for a waiting list place but put up with temporary place. Then in fact they liked the second choice school so much they didn't want to move as term progressed.
Our school is 2 mins away, fine (although dd is always complaining) but if they hadn't got in, the other (lower performing and distant)school which wasn't on my radar at the time has turned out to be great for lots of my friends and is now oversubscribed! Another school which was completely v.popular & oversubscribed at time of ds1 reception has overegged itself and everyone is removing their dcs. So you can never tell what will happen.

galen · 23/04/2009 09:54

Morning all
swan hope you got DD to school - and hope she comes home in a better mood

mad good luck at hosp, and good luck with primary school. the whole theing is so stressful, reminds me why I ended up home educating for a while LOL

gibb sounds like youre doing well!

EHM sounds like you've been busy - and yes the school thing...sigh...

An early start here today... DS2 woke at 5.40 after sleeping till nearly 7.30 for the past week and lulling us into a false sense of security!
I'm exhausted now - out of the habbit of early starts...sigh!
Despite early start still not much done...

DD3 was in trouble at school yesterday for hitting another child and refusing to aplolgise, then kicking another one 10 mins later. This is after the day before when she wet herself twice I do worry about DD3 - she has always been my biggest challenge. I used to be concerened about ASD posiibilities with her, but till now she has laways been fine at school - just impossible at home. She definately has a lot of sensory issues I think though .... just hope this isnt the start of things going downhill at school for her. Ireland seems to have really thrown her off track - I dont think she has much clue about FIL, just think the whole trip was too much for her.... she just cant cope with anything out of the ordinary. mad think I need to borrow your pyschologist LOL Anyway hopefully its just a blip and shell be OK...

On a more positive note DD4 LOVED nursery. Didnt want to come home! And is very excited about going for a full session this afternoon so thats good. Looking forward to some one on one time with DS2 actually!

feeling a bit unmotivated today...but will go and try and crak on.
Have good mornings all BBL!

swanriver · 23/04/2009 09:55

This negative voices thing is a good idea! I have banished all negative thoughts and am off to work now!

swanriver · 23/04/2009 09:59

x-post Galen! we have same dd3 I think. and the same ds2 lol (though mine's 6 year's older

really must be off and BRUSH HAIR.

gibbberish · 23/04/2009 10:04

Popping in again before getting the ironing board out...

mad dd1 enjoyed her day out but is a bit sore today so am keeping her in today! Sorry to hear you are still suffering... so frustrating for you

swan Poor you. How old is dd? Glad she has emerged from under the bed

ehm chuckled at dd not weeing inthe garden - sweet! Did 50 mins on the wii My face is now bright red lol a bit like this actually

galen sorry to hear about dd3 It must be very worrying for you. Can you get some advice from somewhere? Seems like she does need some extra support.

Okay, going to get the ironing board out NOW!

EHM · 23/04/2009 10:06

Swan glad dd ok
galen if i was academic may have consider HE. One of DH's colleagues from OZ doesn't understand why we are in such a rush to get them to school. They home ED. Glad dd 4 enjoyed nursery

I MUST GO too as garden will not tidy itself

TheMadHouse · 23/04/2009 11:17

If me and DH could job share then we would Home Educate, but DS1 already challenges me with the questions he asks about maths (and yes he has just turned 4). We have discussed this infact recently and DH is going to change his hours slightly once they are both at school so he can collect them twice a week and help with homework etc.

All well at the hospital - no infection, swabs taken again and I am trying a different dressing, which is waterproof, so I can take the children swimming again from next week hopefully - yippee

DS2 was really well behaved, although he is a very tired boy.

EHM Schools are such a worry. I loved primary school and just want the boys to feel the same way (I haved secondary)

Swan Hope all is calm this afternoon

galen No ideas, but some children are much more sensitive than others - friends DS1 is very much like this, he is growing out of it a little, but it has taken time and effort on her part and the schools. She got this book

gibbberish · 23/04/2009 11:55

Glad hosp appt went well mad

You know, it makes such change to be on a thread where everyone is so open minded about HEing. I actually avoid the HE section on here because the threads quite often deteriorate into arguments. Is a shame because if everyone could just accept that we are all doing what is best for our children regardless of how we do it, surely a decent discussion could be carried on. Ho hum.

Anyway, still haven't got the board out

Been sitting reading with dd3 and dd4. dd4's reading is amazing considering she didn't start reading until she was almost 7!! She just wasn't interested before then. She is now more fluent than dd3. Need to spend a bit more time with dd3 I think.

Anyway, off into town with dh for a little while as need to sort out my stoopid mobile contract bbl

EustaciaVye · 23/04/2009 12:19

Hi All

Galen/Mad - We had that book for DD1. Very helpful.

off to tidy a bit.

scattyspice · 23/04/2009 12:45

Hi all.

I can totally understand why people home Ed Gib. School is so one size fits all. Its like we're molding these unique little people into homogenous beings lol. I was so lucky with DS reception teacher as it was her last year before retirement, she had taught at the school for generations (some of DS friends had had her as their teacher lol). She was very easy going and relaxed. His yr1 teacher is lovely too, but the words 'targets' and even 'sats' have been mentioned a bit . Luckily it all goes over ds head, he is mainly there for social reasons lol.

swan and galen - hope your dds feel better later.

Today:
ironing (race yer gib)
tel calls

TheMadHouse · 23/04/2009 13:23

I completly understand why people would want to home ed. I only want what is best for my boys and will move heaven and earth to do that - I mean look at what I have been though to ensure that I get to spend my life with them, why would I want them unhappy.

I am not doing much house work today, I am going to collect mum and do aldi shop once DS2 wakes from his nap.

OP posts:
galen · 23/04/2009 13:32

afternoon all
Just a quick hello!
mad glad hosp app went OK
gib people can be very narrow minded about HE cant they. have to say this thread is fab for open mindedness and support in all areas! As you say we are all just trying to do our best, and what works for one person may not for another etc....
mad/EV think I have read that book...cant quite remember ( I have read almost every parenting book ever written LOL [bluch ) will go search garage bookshelves in a bit. Did find "The out of Sync Child" quite helpful too for DD3
swan LOL your DC sound a lot like mine then! I often think your DS1 reminds me of my DS1 too!

Well DD4 now at nursery - went off totally happy to play in atwer tray I on hte other hand cant believe how quiet it is here!
It has been about 5 years since I have had just one DC at home LOL Think it may take some getting used to!
Was going to crack on with zone clean, but sun has come out again so am going to play with DS2 in garden instead as he has already had a nap
May pot up my tomatos too if DS will let me without trying to eat handfuls of compost like he normally does!

Right BBL ladies

swanriver · 23/04/2009 13:39

Went on Home ed site yesterday, Gibberish,a nd I agree there was a horrible hijack from someone saying you are not allowed to complain about anything if you HE, just send them to school etc etc.

Good morning at work, though time slightly wasted by teachers wanting to chat lol..

Now to do:
thoroughly tidy the whole house
assemble supper
ring to cancel school dinners for each child in rotation (can't handle more than one packed lunch a day Our school dinners are delicious but they sometimes want to sit with the packed lunch friends ifyswim...separate tables. Also dcs have this mistaken belief that packed lunch = crisps.
order some more school shorts for ds2

Bbwhen achieved these targets.

swanriver · 23/04/2009 13:42

school shorts for ds1 ds2 hs ENOUGH

grouchyoscar · 23/04/2009 14:26

Hello ALL

Having a rough day today I fell over in Ed's classroom this morning and despite a sit down in the staff room I'm now a bit wibbly wobbly. Still I try not to let it get to me, pop to town, get the shopping, pick up the veg box, Do the dinnerlady stint, stagger home, expeienced an awful guest of next door implying I am under the influence of drugs Make an appointment to have the cat put to sleep and I've got to get Ed in 30 mins.

I will give myself a slap and pull myself together, sorry all, just needed to share

Jas · 23/04/2009 14:46

Grouchy That sounds like a pretty rotten day. I hope you get a good rest this evening.

EHM · 23/04/2009 15:01

grouchy thats sounds awful.big virtual hug from me & Ellie. Hope you get some rest.
jas hi
tmh glad went well at hospital. DH & I are turning ourselves inside out to find what appears to be the right school for ellie. I agree I just want her to be happy, including when she starts school. What would have been the easy option is to stay put & send her to our nearest school 7 mins walk away, but this wouldn't have been the right school for ellie.
gibb I really avoid all other threads now on MN & have done for months. I can still remember the first post I did on MN & was bluntly told by another MN that why was my child more special just because she was IVF!(it was about putting childrens picture in/on cards) I had said that most of my family/friends love to hear/see my dd as we waited so long for dd & tried so many times by IVF & that she was so special.
galen I agree this thread is very supportive & very open minded.
swan why do the school of different tables for pack lunch & school dinners?

Sorry I've waffled on a bit. Garden weeded, grass cut, tidied & I hosed decking, ellie's playhouse, shed, garden furniture & pation. Looks much better
having well earned cuppa & gooing to sweep & mop florrs downstairs as now mucky & grassy.

gibbberish · 23/04/2009 15:39

Aaaaw I love you all

Sorry couldn't resist. See, MN can still be a lovely place!

grouchy sorry you have had a wobble today. You need to take it easy and be nice to yourself. I INSIST you refrain from slapping yourself!

dh bought my anniversary present today. Sneaked a look at the bag and seems to be something from a jewellers

I have bought him a top of the range, professional cricket bat that he can hopefully use this summer, if it doesn't rain as much this year as it did last year. Hope it arrives by Saturday... It will also come in handy for threatening the kids to stop them squabbling

scattyspice · 23/04/2009 15:54

Hi all.

grouchy. Put your feet up this evening .

Yay at pressie gib . I've asked for a kitchen floor for our aniv .

To do
IRONING
etc

gibbberish · 23/04/2009 15:56

lol scatty Perhaps you will get the kitchen floor AND something else nice for you?
