Working mother looking for a house organiser (NOT CLEANERS)

Hi Ladies,

Do you ladies think that there are people out there to help organizing kitchens, living rooms, kids rooms?

I wish somebody can just organize my things which I dump due to lack of time. I am NOT looking for a cleaner but somebody who can organize for me and make it look beautiful.

I am not looking for a professional person, since they are expensive. Are these people out there and if so how much do they charge?

help ...help...

You could try advertising locally for a cleaner who will take on decluttering as well. I'd generalise that most cleaners prefer not to deal with clutter, but there are some out there who relish a bit of a challenge, and they'd work out cheaper than a specialist declutterer. You'll have to go out looking for them, though.

moondog · 17/03/2009 23:21

Just do it yourself.

theoriginalmummypoppins · 17/03/2009 23:21

Are you for real ????

book some time off work and FOCUS......

It cant be that hard to declutter and stick with it.

Or am I being mean........id there a reason why you are in a mess ?

theoriginalmummypoppins · 17/03/2009 23:22

I love organising, but I am in the wrong area.

I would really like to get one of those Dymo machines to create labels for each shelf and drawer so that everyone else knows what the system is.

Nontoxic · 18/03/2009 08:15

So just get one - I've got one and all my storecupboard stuff is stacked in labelled Tupperwares.
I open my kitchen cupboards to feel better about my messy house.
You can also label the boxes the kids' toys are in, and the shelves in their wardrobes - the possibilities are endless!

EdwardBear · 18/03/2009 08:21

I think the danger with not de-cluttering yourself is not being able to keep it up after the initial blitz.
If you do it yourself you'll understand exactly where everything goes straight off.

What I really want is someone to take my kids for a day so I can do my own house!!!

NotAnOtter · 18/03/2009 20:09

i would love to be an unclutterer for profession

i mentally sweep all the crap of surfaces even if not allowed to physically do it

I could do that 'life laundry' with peoples homes - how sooooothing!

the thing is no one would let you. they would stand over going 'not that...no no i might need that someday - never!'

mrsmaidamess · 18/03/2009 20:14

Notanotter, me too! I physically twitch if I go to cluttered house.

I am in South east England....whereabouts is this hovel that needs organising?

kittywise · 18/03/2009 20:20

advertise on gumtree, that way you can ask for what you are looking for

NotAnOtter · 18/03/2009 20:28

somewhere near you Mrs Maidamess (inappropriate name i presume )

maybe this could be your new foray into the business world!

(although the op has gone AWOL!)

PfftTheMagicDragon · 18/03/2009 20:44

Me three, NaO! I love it, I love getting rid of things, it's so cathartic, filing, organising. I stand and look at if after wards.

NotAnOtter · 18/03/2009 20:46

lol once i had a picture of a cupboard i had just cleaned out on my profile - will have a hunt.....

hereidrawtheline · 18/03/2009 20:53

you lot will understand the excitement I felt last week when I realised DS has accumulated enough of the same type of stuff now to have a dressing up box! Amongst other boxes. I cant wait to go box shopping! On that note do you know of any really great storage solutions? I need something relatively cheap, dont want to break the bank as there are a million things I am having to fork out for at the moment. But I want lots of big plastic boxes with lids, either in a shelving sort of system or not. What do you think?

NotAnOtter · 18/03/2009 21:04

If any of you are feeling a little frazzled I have the perfect 'pick me up'

well more of an 'ahhhhhhhhhh' soothing calm - inducer

check out my profile - I give you 'the laundry cupboard'

Nontoxic · 18/03/2009 21:07

I've been buying plastic shoeboxes with lids from Dunelm Mill - cost about £2.00. Because they're small you can put small groups of things and they don't get muddled, ie Lego sets, Playmobil people, soldiers, farm animals etc. Also works for craft stuff.

NotAnOtter · 18/03/2009 21:11

they sound good
whats dunhelm mill? do they stack?

nancy75 · 18/03/2009 21:12

this sounds like my ideal job, i love organising and throwing out - im in south east too, mrsmaidamess, maybe we could start a business!

Nontoxic · 18/03/2009 21:31

Have just looked at www.dunelm-mill.com but they don't seem to have them online.
If you look at the store locator they've got dozens of branches so you might get lucky.
Have just noticed I also have lots of clear plastic shoebox size boxes without lids. If your DCs are young this makes it easier for them to tidy up as they won't bother to struggle with a lid, but are more likely to chuck things in a box (waits for this miracle to take effect in own house).
And you can label them with cut out or drawn pictures so the DCs know what goes in each box and can find what they want.
Re. dressing up box: I have a large basket/trunk from Ikea which looks good - quite big though, but you might be able to get a smaller version.

NotAnOtter · 18/03/2009 21:38

non toxic - Montessori school did wonders for my ds who tidies everything up beautifully

Starbear · 18/03/2009 21:38

NotAnOtter Wow I wish I had a linen cupboard to sort out. House too small.
