all duvet covers / sheets etc
bathroom towels
tea towels
bulky items like dressing gowns / chunky cardys
jeans / trousers

Just wondered how often is the norm or if you are meant to wash these things on a sort of rota so you know everything is being kept on top of. I try to do all the above quite regular but i dont have a set time for each if you know what i mean.

Basically i want to get myself organised and into a system so i know how often to wash things because i do have a lot of washing, often two loads a day and i think its cos i am not that organised with the washing.

Hope some of that makes sense!

So how many loads of washing do you do in a week?

I don't do any of these as frequently as you all seem to be doing them and I have a load on every day and some days 2 loads.

If I do the sheets/towels/covers etc once a week , jeans/cardis etc 2/3 wears then that would easily double my washing... I don't see how I would be able to dry it all!!

BonsoirAnna · 24/02/2009 20:43

14 loads a week is nothing for a family of five.

Just doing my DSSs bedroom laundry (2 duvets, 2 pillowcases, 2 undersheets, 2 towels, 2 flannels and a bathmat) is 4 loads... ie 10 loads for whole family, before even starting on clothes, of which 2 loads per week are DP's works shirts and underwear.

ohdearwhatamess · 24/02/2009 20:54

2 or 3 loads every day here (with only 2 very small dcs).

Dry outside whenever possible. Otherwise tumble dry.

princessmel · 24/02/2009 21:02

I am that your ds's bedroom laundry makes 4 loads BonsoirAnna.

That would be 2 max in my machine.

BonsoirAnna · 24/02/2009 21:08

Machine takes 5kg MAX and you are only supposed to put 4kg in a 60 or 90 degree.

How can you be shocked about following the instructions to preserve your machine and wash properly?

princessmel · 24/02/2009 21:10

Ours is an 8kg machine.

4 loads seems excessive thats all.

chill!

Duvet covers/sheets - fortnightly
Bathroom towels - weekly/every 10 days
Tea towels - DS aged 3 uses them to wipe his nose and clean his face so daily
Dressing gowns/cardies - umm when stains are visible or they smell
Jeans/trousers - fortnightly or when dirty

I thought I'd come across as a right minger but reading everyone elses responses I'm not too bad, and its much more environmentally friendly not to do too much washing.

I didn't know that a washing machine had a maximum wash, I thought you were meant to bung everything in and heave the door shut ?

MollieO · 24/02/2009 21:23

all duvet covers / sheets etc - weekly
bathroom towels - weekly
tea towels - changed daily
bulky items like dressing gowns / chunky cardys
jeans / trousers - dressing gowns monthly, jeans - once a week (assuming worn one day and one or two evenings), don't wear cardis so jumpers washed after one or two wears.

SlightlyMadScotland · 24/02/2009 22:51

I do 3-5 loads of washing over teh course of Fri/Sat.

The DP does 3 loads MAX on a Monday....but then as we have established I am a minger....

kingprawntikka · 25/02/2009 18:47

towels - twice a week
t-towels -clean one every day
