Can you use these on wooden floors aswell as carpets Barbara?

dietstartstomorrow · 06/02/2009 14:27

I got one a couple of weeks ago - it's fab.

It's like having a helpful friend to do housework with , she's going as I type.

PestoBlizzardMonster · 06/02/2009 15:05

I want one, but although we have carpets at the moment, we are planning to get wooden floors when we get our extension done in the spring.

That's why I'd be keen to know whether you can use 'em on wood?

Thank you please!

solo · 06/02/2009 15:07

Does she pull the furniture out and vacuum behind the sofa etc?

dietstartstomorrow · 06/02/2009 16:15

As far as I know, you can use them on any type of flooring.

I have laminate and carpet - both work fine.

Solo - No she makes me do that

PestoBlizzardMonster · 06/02/2009 17:49

Thank you!

Oh dear, things are not looking good for Roger.

He had his overnight charge and after DD had accidently woken him up once and scared herself silly, we went for trial run.

I hadn't set up his lighthouses (he is the 560 model) but gave him a run around our living room/dining room. Initially I was quite impressed at how he managed but then he got himself stuck on the edge of a rug and sang his "help me" song.

I sent him home for a rest. He spectacularly failed to dock himself and whined for help until I docked him.

After a short feed, DP came home and we gave Roger test number two. Roger clearly felt the pressure of having to prove his worth to the alpha male () of the house and ran around in circles before once again getting stuck on the edge of the rug. He shouted for help again and (having dug out the Roomba translation guide) discerned that he thought his bumper was either dirty or stuck (it was neither).

I moved him to the hall, thinking a smaller space might give him a chance to establish himself. Roger did some more circling, then got stuck on the rug, was freed by me again then his docking light came on (hungry? already?) and I had to escort him home.

So, we bought a Roomba as new wooden floors (with rugs) will benefit from a daily sweep and bought the 560 so that he could do this whilst we were at work. So far he seems to be quite needy and can't handle rugs.

DP is muttering darkly about sending him back. We will try again tomorrow with the lighthouses but to be honest Roger has a lot of ground to make up if he wants to stay.

I do have to say though, he did pick up an impressive amount of crud (the rug is new so bad housekeeping can't be the whole story)

Poor little mite - don't send him away!

BarbaraWoodlouse · 06/02/2009 20:28

I know Jules, I already feel strangely responsible for him. But in these hard economic climes everyone has to earn their keep [blue]

Poor little chap.
I'm going to set up a Roomb re-homing charity. All donations gratefully received!

BarbaraWoodlouse · 06/02/2009 20:30

LMLT - dust, cat hair, lots of my hair, DD's hairtie (rescued intact), crumbs.... Really good - if only he could make it round the room without getting stuck/lost/hungry.

You guys are making me feel terrible!

OP posts:
LoveMyLapTop · 06/02/2009 20:33

I am tempted to get one but DH needs convincing

CandleQueen · 06/02/2009 21:01

I'm very tempted by a roomba beacause of the crumbs DS2 creates now we are BLW. Can't help but think DS1 would just cahse it around though!

LoveMyLapTop · 06/02/2009 22:11

Does it suck stuff up or just stick to it?

BarbaraWoodlouse · 06/02/2009 22:28

It sucks

link please

blossomsmine · 06/02/2009 23:41

Maybe Roger just feels a little unsure in his new home, teething problems so to speak. Just continue to be welcoming and i am sure he will settle in and get to work for you

solo · 06/02/2009 23:52

Pah! not interested in getting one then! why buy a dog and bark yourself .

brimfull · 06/02/2009 23:56

mine is fab
love love love it

mine has no problems getting on to my rug and it's about an inch high

solo · 07/02/2009 00:06

But does it move the furniture out ggirl? dietstartstomorrows doesn't! complete waste of money IMO!

cornsilk · 07/02/2009 00:16

How much are they?
