Have been sat here ooooing and arrring at the iceskating

How is the cake baking going?

lucysmam · 11/01/2009 21:05

celeb bb

I've been watching Demons on ITV2 instead, couldn't make my mind up but the skating is likely to be repeated so will watch it next Sunday afternoon if it's on then.

Cake baking is going well, I even managed to find an oval tin to do Noah's ark in so I don't have toworry about cutting it to shape! Just my wonky animals to keep practising at & figure out if the quantities I have are going to provide me with a cake that spills over the edges n makes a mess of my lovely cooker

trip trap . . . again!

bellavita · 11/01/2009 22:34

I am sure you will do a fab job with the Noah cake and animals.

Pity the mice have come back!

lucysmam · 12/01/2009 12:36

last night was very quiet. Only one all night & no scuffling about so . . . everything crossed!

Hi have noticed a mouse this morning scuttling across our kitchen floor. I am absolutely terrified (phobia!!!) of mice and cannot even go in the kitchen to make a cup of tea. If I do go in will it show up. Have call rodent control who will be out today but am feeling really wimpey and miserable. My 10 year old son also has the same phobia which must be hireditary as have never shown him my fear. DS2 is not bothered. Has anyone got any advice for me especially to get over the fear of these bastards....

siblingrivalry · 26/01/2009 12:03

Oh,Flowertop, nt advice, but lots of ((((hugs)))) -I share your phobia and still hate going into the roon where we had mice 2 years ago! IME, they won't show in the day. Good luck.

Flowertop · 26/01/2009 12:22

Hi Siblingrivalry, thanks for your sentitments. How did you get rid of yours? and how did you deal with the fear at the time.
x

lucysmam · 26/01/2009 13:16

Flowertop, they tend to scarper as soon as they hear footsteps so you're not likely to see it. & if you do, it'll probably be skittling across the floor very quickly in the opposite direction to you!

Like siblingrivalr says though, they do tend to only come out at night so go make your cuppa & put your feet up & relax!!

oops, sorry siblingrivalry!!

Ok update from my pest control man. Droppings found in most rooms including bedrooms. In the foot of our bed under the drawers (divan) there is evidence that they have been around. To make themselves more comfortable they have chewed my lovely buttons off my throw and taken some of my things out of the drawer for a bed. I nearly went into hysterics when he told me. He reckons there are probably 3 families living with me or perhaps we are living with them. Has put loads of poison down and will be back in two weeks. I feel awful, hate my house, want to leave and generally very tearful. I know I sound pathetic but I have this awful phobia of mice (ok with anything else spiders etc.)
wish me luck...

izyboy · 26/01/2009 18:46

All this talk of mice. I keep hearing scratching in our loft but I think it is squirrels. Probably mice and squirrels-gulp!

lucysmam · 26/01/2009 20:04

why don't you see if you can catch some with a couple of trip traps like we did as well if you have a dh/dp who will empty them for you before you go in the kitchen.

Knowing that they have been caught may make you feel better while you wait for the pest control man to come back

or could you stay with someone for a week or 2? Big upheaval I know but if you're feeling that worried about it it might do you good to be out of there until he comes back.

If it makes you feel better, we used little trip traps & they were all gone within a couple of days, they don't take long to get rid of I don't think

I hope the pest control mans poison does the trick for you, they're horrid little things. Sorry it's as bad as it is

siblingrivalry · 26/01/2009 20:12

Oh, Flowertop, you poor thing .
We just persevered with the traps until ours were gone (had about 3, but dh kept the prescence of 1 or 2 stragglers to himself -I was at fever pitch).Took about a week.
I coped by sitting with my feet up on the sofa - I kid you not - until they were gone and then I cleaned the house til it was totally sanitised. I have to be honest, I still have my phobia, but I got through it and you will, too.
I agree that it might be wise to stay with relatives/friends if you can, just to protect your poor nerves. I really hate the little fuckers feckers and all of the hassle they cause.
Take care, let us know how you get on x

Flowertop · 27/01/2009 10:42

Thanks for you kind words. I managed to get into bed last night and stayed rigid sweating all night, poor DH has to work early and I think has been really through it with me. He says he has always known I fear mice but never dreamed I would act like this. The pest control man told me not to set traps as the type of poison we have kills through eating, grooming others in the nest and mating. If we kill a female by the trap then the killing rate will be lower. Also he told me not to do anything with my bed and just leave things as they are for the time being. I really need to buy a new bed, one with no drawers or anything underneath. Can't see how I'm going to sleep in this one. What would you do? DH is away on Thursday and wondered if I should take the DS's to a nearby B&B. The trouble is once I start this I am letting my fear take over and also disrupting the boys. My DS1 has been brill as he also has the fear but just went to bed last night as always. But they don't know about the mice in the bottom of the bed.
thanks for listening.

Hi Flowertop
Well done on geeting through last night -I know the 'rigid' thing well!
If we try to think about it logically (hard I know)then last night would be the hardest, cos they will be starting to die now. The worst should be over.
I think you are doing so well - be proud of yourself! x

lucysmam · 31/01/2009 16:36

How are things with the mice Flowertop?

Glad the kids sound like they are coping ok

OP posts:
Flowertop · 02/02/2009 11:15

Hi LM thanks for asking. Not heard anything from our little friends and I seem to be coping better than expected. DH was away last week and just went to bed at 9 and found I could get a little sleep. I now believe (have to!) that they are all dead. Mouseman coming back Thurs so looking forward to his view. Also have found someone who can come in once a month to put poison down and check activity levels. Very expensive but tbh this has given me peace of mind. Thanks so much for everyones support. I feel a bit of a twit but unfortunately unless you suffer from a phobia of something it is hard to understand.
Thanks again,
XX

lucysmam · 02/02/2009 11:41

you're entitled to be afraid of something! & mice aren't pleasant at all.

Glad you seem to be coping better than you expected to.

Let us know what the pest control man has to say on Thursday

OP posts:
lucysmam · 06/02/2009 19:56

Hey Flowertop, what did the mouse man say yesterday? Did he get rid of them for you?

OP posts:
Flowertop · 20/02/2009 18:37

Hi, sorry have been away for half term. I don't really understand it as I check the poison trays and looks like the bait is still being eaten. You would think by now that all the mice would be dead. Have seen no activity in the house (please god!) but as I say can see that they have eaten the bait from the loft hatches. It's not loads but you can see a scattering of food around the tray. I'm sure if we had loads of mice then the trays would be empty? Little confused about it but thanks all so much for your lovely much needed support.

lucysmam · 20/02/2009 19:15

Maybe it's done a really good job & got each one first time? Look at it like that

Has the mouse man been back yet?
Did you have a good half term? where did you go?

OP posts:
Flowertop · 20/02/2009 21:47

Hi LM, yes I suppose it could be that there is a hole where they are getting in and taking the bait straight away. I had to cancel the original mouse man as I had a second opinion from a friend of a friend who is a pest controller. He believes that the first lot were exaggerating about there being so many mice and were just trying to get as much money out of me as they could. It was an 0845 number I rang and he said that you have to be very careful with these numbers as you can get stung. I paid £190 for their first outing (I would have paid £100's more believe me) and they wanted another £60 just to revist. So I cancelled them and am now using the new bloke. TBH I don't know who to believe. I mean I saw the evidence of mice droppings in the divan area of my bed, the kids bedrooms, airing cupboard etc. so we clearly have mice. Also they are still eating the bait.
Had a lovely half term in Austria skiing and could not believe how much snow was around. Hope you had a lovely half term.

lucysmam · 21/02/2009 11:54

Have you tried the little trip traps?

They worked brilliantly for us. Not very pleasant at all but they got rid of 14 mice in about 3 or 4 days. I expected there to be loads more than that because of the droppings & the scuttling noise at night but there haven't been any since then

I am at how much they charged! Our local councils pest control people are reasonably priced, they might be worth trying.

Glad you had a good half term, am very but my lo is only 2 so a bit little for doing anything like that yet . . .just avoid town over half term at the mo as it's always heaving
