do you think we ought to expect many more?

good idea but there's nowhere around here to let them go & I don't fancy having starving mice sat in the house or outside it . . . will have a look around for somewhere to take them to & possibly order tomorrow

how long did it take to get rid of them anothermansmother?

MissisBoot · 10/01/2009 22:13

Just drown them. They'll be dead in seconds.

ThursdayNext · 10/01/2009 22:15

lucysmam, I'll give peanut butter a go, they are not even remotely interested in chocolate or raisins. Yeah, we are being most unusually clean as well, I'm just sticking everything into the dishwasher.

Missis, what happens with the glue pads? The mice just stick on them and then you release them outside? Or do they die(confused emotion)?

noonki · 10/01/2009 22:16

glue pads are sick
don't do it.

MissisBoot · 10/01/2009 22:18

You do have to put them out of their misery yourself. They are inhumane - but I'd rather a mouse free house and safe children. If you let them out a cat will only get them so better to save them from that misery.

I can't belive I'm on mn talking about gluetraps.

lucysmam · 10/01/2009 22:19

We only tried it as none of us like peanut butter & my sil gave it to us. Seems to be something they're keen on

The glue pads . . . the mice's feet stick to them & they'e stuck until you either release them miles from where you are so they can't find their way back or they starve to death. Very not pleasant unless you have somewhere to take them

lol MissisBoot, I wouldn't have thought of traps if I hadn't asked on here the other night!

OP posts:
anothermansmother · 10/01/2009 22:24

it ook about a week to kill em off with pest control and there fabulous poison! di traps but then had to get someone to empty them for me as i get violently sick! [vomit emotion]
they come back for a few weeks even when they seem to have disappeared, just to be sure. plus i have a little one running around and didnt want them for any longer! im now about to go and scrub my kitchen some more as this thread has just brough back memories! vom!

lucysmam · 10/01/2009 22:26

pest control it is then, definately they way to go. I'm sat here waiting for snap number 9 now!

OK, jar of peanut butter it is. Thanks.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 10/01/2009 22:34

we had a cool trap that was like an electric box so when they went in it zapped them straight away and you just have a little dead mousey to deal with. Mind you, sounds like your trap is doing pretty well!

lucysmam · 10/01/2009 22:36

lol, it's doing too well if you ask me. But worth the money & no snap yet either which is the first time it's not gone as soon as it's been put down all night. Fingers crossed no more!

Sounds like more the kind of trap I could deal with than the snap trap we have. Definately my oh's job to empty it. Although he has lost a mouse eyeball somewhere in the hall

OP posts:
lucysmam · 10/01/2009 22:59

& there goes number 9!

I'm thinking this is more serious than I first imagined!

OP posts:
anothermansmother · 10/01/2009 23:05

goodness nine! poison is definitly the way to go. get abck onto your landlord esp if he owns the empty property and threaten envio health, if he doesnt do anything they will make him if he doesnt clear such things as old rubbish or anything tehy can nest in. another thing are they al about the same size? if some are smaller you may be catching their young too.

anothermansmother · 10/01/2009 23:05

exits to kitchen to do yet more scrubbing asa precaution whilst wanting to vomit at the thought!

lucysmam · 10/01/2009 23:09

They are all around the same size, off to pet shop for more traps if they're open tomorrow and poison although when I asked before someone said they just ate it and kept coming back or sloped off to die somewhere then you have to hunt out the mouse that's making the house smell.

Oh, this is sooooo not fun

Have you tried the council pest control? they are generally quite cheap and very very effective.

MarmadukeScarlet · 10/01/2009 23:30

Council pest control is around £50, for that they keep coming back until the problem is sorted - this could be useful as they will probably contact the landlord of nextdoor for you.

Erm, I don't believe you can prize the mice off the glue pads...they stick, you either leave them to scream/starve/try to chew their legs off or you drown them. If it was so easy to get them off, they wouldn't be quite so effective.

SlightlyMadScientist · 10/01/2009 23:33

On amazon they say to use cooking oil to moisten their feet to get them off. TBH though I think you have to release them at least 3 miles away to prevent them coming back...and if you are going to kill them I don't see the point when a little snap trap sems to be doing the job.

We got 10 in all last night, trap is down again but so far nothing this morning. Going to keep putting that down in the meantime & contact the council tomorrow morning.

Snap trap definately more humane than glue pads, at least it's quick & they don't linger on for days!

So far so good?

lucysmam · 11/01/2009 20:47

one all day & that was about an hour and a half ago. Not seen any all day either, it came out when we went upstairs for an hour

Fingers crossed we shouldn't have many, if any more!

I gave next doors landlord a mouthful earlier as well when he came round with police after someone booted his door down. & we've finally got the boxing in where they were coming through finished . . .I rang the only one of the workmen I had a number for this morning & shouted at him too so he came n did it for me this afternoon

Hopefully that ought to help

Well done, pays to shout now and again
