Am going to go and read with a cup of coffee before pick up time.

Must start flyladying properly again. Its been a bit of a saviour in the past.

TheNewYearNewMadHouse, When do you get the big jobs done like cleaning a cupboard or cleaning out Toy box?

TheNewYearNewMadHouse · 05/01/2009 14:32

I do them the week of the zone clean

ie this week is Kitchen - I have a big understairs cuboard that I will do then.

TBH, once you start decluttering it reallt makes a difference.

Also I use weekends if DH is going to have time with the boys to do one off jobs, that I can not get done with a 3 and 2 year old under my feet

BUT.......... you shoudl see the garage - it is where all the shit and clutter goes. I really nead to crack that at some point.

I may have failed as I haven't even looked at the link never mind done it but I have fixed my head and my heart. Will that do?

TheNewYearNewMadHouse · 05/01/2009 16:48

Scatty I decided I would rather have the heating off than lose my drier, espcailly with bed wetting nad all that and we are in the NE where it is always raining I can not bear having wet clothes everywhere. What I tend to do is to a wash last thing at night, pop on airer and then finish it in the dryer in the morning - that way it is only on a sort length of time. I also only tend to use it in the winter.

EHM He fell out of bed on Christmas day - night and broke it, although they didnt xray that night/morning and DH didnt instist (he took him as I had been drinking cue nopt sleep and a grumpy boy who couldnt get his clothes on or off. I took him back on the 27th and insisted on an x-ray nad what do you know - a broken collar bone.

We have walked to the libraary
Made traffic light jellys
DW has been on a cleaning cycle
Microwave cleaned
Mission completed - in a Little Enstieens syleeeee
Dinner in slow cooker
sink shone
cooker cleaned
windows washed in kitchen
Fridge cleaned

My tree is turn out to be a nightmare due to DH's choice of new lights 160. Will never go up again unless in a straight line. Soooo looking forward to Ds starting school in September. TheNewYearNewMadHouse My Dh is a teacher so he gets in my way during the holidays and has to do school work in the evening & weekends. I've come up with a plan Do very little house work during the short holidays and go out to see friends & be tourist in our own city. Of course today tons of washing and ironing and christmas decor all over the place. Will be fine by tonight

Jas · 05/01/2009 16:55

Scatty - I got rid of my t/d this summer shen I got a dishwasher (no space for both and the t/d was broken).

There are 5 of us, dd2 and ds both have wet beds occasionally and dp is a clean freak - daily change of clothes, more if working as he gets very dirty.

I was out this morning hanging sheets out despite the snow on the ground

I hang out unless it is actually raining, as drying everything on airer/rads was resulting in condensation pouring down the windows.

It is not easy, and given the choice I would get rid of the d/w and get another drier....I only use the d/w every other day as it is.....but it is possible if you are able to make sure of bringing stuff in etc.

I also have a line in the shed, and towels take about 2 days to dry in there, but if I have lots wet, I leave a couple in it.

grouchyoscar · 05/01/2009 17:09

scatty I only tumble dry if I'm really desperate. I have an airer over the bath (we have a seperate shower room and tend to use that so it doesn't get in the way.

Have made a lamb casserole and it smells delish

Another of my NY resolutions is to eat dinner at the table (have become very slack at letting the dc's loll on sofa in front of the tv

As well as gym I've also down 20 mins yoga on the wii fit

Evening all

Looks like the 21st it is then at York. I will firm up the details on FB then. I am so excited - he he he

Boys are fed, bathes, PJ'd and having books with Daddy. DS2 was very excited as a Sky+ Wiggle and Learn for him.

Dinner is in the slow cooker for me and DH, just need to do a couple of jacket pots to go with.

Scatty I have order that book from Amazon when to the library to have a look, but all a bit new agey or too divinity based.

I need to set a bulb for the nightlight as it has gone, so that is on my list for tomorrow

Evening all.
Well evening routine was as bad as morning. Bum again LOL
I just find that whole home from school, out to clubs, tired grumpy baby, whiny toddlers, homework for 3, tea to do etc.... so stressful, and exhausting! I'm shattered now and haven't even started any sort of bedtime routine. Still got to get older ones to bed.
And my bedroom such a tip it's depressing me. Don't know when I'll get round to that.
Please all shout at me and tell me these babysteps will work cause i'm feeling a tad overwhelmed again!

Anyway on a positive note I have :

de-cobwebbed kitchen ceiling (yay!)

Quick clean of 2/3 bathrooms

Tea done and cleared

Dishwasher loaded.

2 lots of washing dried - to be folded, 1 more lot in WM

Floors swept - no energy to mop tonight!

Posted last 2 Thank You cards.

Got DC's to put away stuff on stairs ( it was theirs anyway LOL)

Got older Dc's to sort lunch boxes and make sandwhiches for tomorrow ( genius!)

Going to spend some time starting my control journal tonight, and thinking about how I can work on my evening and morning routines to get things running more smoothly.Great routine suggestions - thanks!

Need to go to bed early. Poor Ds2 has been sleeping terribly. He was really poorly over Christmas, ended up with bilateral conjunctivitis that is still not fully better, and now his first little tooth is just popping through. Was up from 2 - 5am with him last night.NEED SLEEP!

See you all tomorrow!

Hope you like the book Mad. It is not newagey or religious, just snipets of wisdom. Todays snippet was about how we get used to living in constant state of crisis and can subconciously create crises to live in (make sense?).

Galen - You've done masses today! On the flylady website (somewhere) are bits sent in by people who've adapted the flything to fit their circumstances: when you have young children, work fulltime, work shifts etc. The key is to establish manageable routines that work for you and try to stick to them. I for one rarely do any zone cleaning or missions, I just about manage the daily routines and basic weekly jobs (hoover, mop floor, dust, water plants etc).

DC raising hell tsk. Be back tomorrow.

AnneOfAvonlea · 05/01/2009 19:57

Galen - you are crazy trying to do so much. If I recall you have only just started babysteps? If so you shouldnt even be thinking about an evening routine yet. Go back to basics and take it slowly. It will work, I promise. 50% of the people who try flylady do what you are doing, they burn out after a week and so think it is a crap system. Take it easy and go back to basics.

TheNewYearNewMadHouse · 05/01/2009 20:03

galen - you know what - at least you are managing to get them to Rainbows etc. If I had six I am not sure we would even get out of the house TBH.

I am possibly teaching you how to suck eggs, but the following might help

Each of my boys has a basket for their clean clothes for the next day. lso for the bigger ones hang a shoe hanger in the wardrobe and at the weekend get them to fill each day with the clothes they will need.

I also have low hooks for the boys coats and a drawer for gloves etc.

I am also a stickler that they put the pots in the sink or next to the dishwasher, dirty clothes next to the washer etc.

I am really anal and use my calender. I also have a friend that has more children and she has a concertina file split in to the days of the week in the kitchen and each childs name and any paperwork goes straight in their.

Clearing the cluttter fly wise, tends to give you a place for everything - I just make sure that everyone knows where.

I have a blackboard in the kitchen, a shopping list thing and also a notes and lists book.

I can e-mail you my control journal (which is on excel) if you CAT me.

I am a FLY missonary, as it changed my life - I had PND, my house was a mess, my head was a mess and this enabled me to see things in 15min chunks. I live my life in 15 min chuncks now.

I even sert the timer nad get the children to race against it to clean the conservatory (playroom)

I will stop evengelising now - it has taken agaes and I have had dinner with DH in the middle

TheNewYearNewMadHouse · 05/01/2009 20:06

Anne is right - baby steps help build up the right routine for your situation.

Scatty Thanks I have also order a pack of winsdom cards too, a book on the eating to aid the menopause and also a book on the impacts of early menopause. I am on a self help trip

OP posts:
wendythepositivethinker · 05/01/2009 21:48

have not done much Flying, but I have:

done 27 thank you cards with glue, feathers, pictures and sparkly things with the children
played slidey games in the playground
played with Goldilocks and her Weeble house
made pretend porridge from screwed up balls of paper
played with the animals and the jungle adventure set
done 8 pages with ds and his learning book
played splashy games in the bath
danced and swirled with music in the kitchen with both dc
jumped to catch bubbles from the bubble machine
fed the family home made nutritious food
done all their washing

So yay me, I am a great Mummy!

Whoever said that today, you are so right! Let's celebrate what we have done each and every day.

Mad your purchases sound fab - are you defo going to do the Journal Jar?

Galen We all live in awe of you being a brilliant Mum to your lots of children [bows down] please don't beat yourself up about ANYTHING and BABYSTEP. DO NOT SKIP FORWARD. I tried to run before I could fly once ... and fell right off the wagon. Only these gorgeous Flysisters here have helped me see that the way to do it is easy does it. It truly does work. Look at me, I've been able to do all that 'play' today and my house still looks ok! (But like Mad you ought to see the garage!)

Sorry, more evangelism over, nothing worth than a convert, eh.

Anne thanks for the whiteboard tip - had one in my old house, wonder if I can get away with one in this rented house where picture hooks are banned - any ideas?

Big hello and night night to all I can't name you all - huge thread today!

swanriver · 05/01/2009 21:59

DRIER TALK. We are 5 people. I don't have a drier, but I have an energy saving aga (no it doesn't save energy) so I dry/scorch some things on that (don't have one of those hanging things tho', all the clothes would smell of frying...) I use bannisters, washing line, bathroom airer, bathroom radiators. Never had had a drier actually. My mother used bannisters. And her aga.

Today my triumph is that I managed to keep telly off after school as per Resolution despite screams and howls; however did have to let them then play Kerwhizz on computer 20 mins whilst ds1 did 5 units of piano book. Read to little ones on sofa, played pairs and managed to get everyone to bed, asleep by 8.00. Ds1 bit later to bed but in good humour, and wants to make a Greek Salad tomorrow, as he's decided he is an expert cook.

I'm feeling very optimistic about tomorrow. The more decluttering I do the more powerful I feel - is this the beginning of meglomania?

wendythepositivethinker · 05/01/2009 22:02

at meglomania! I agree you do feel powerful! You've had a great day too then Swan

swanriver · 05/01/2009 22:08

Wendy, what a great day you have had. That's what I'm really aiming for with all this housework - freedom to enjoy being with the children.
