im terrible and its 20 im afraid

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 04/01/2009 00:07

ermm pass - don't have a temperature thermostat

aidansyummymummy · 04/01/2009 00:08

but having just checked what the thermostat is clicking at its around 16 at the mo so may turn it down to 18.....heating is on for 1hr in the morning and 1 hr in evening. I then turn it on if it feels nippy

squatchette · 04/01/2009 00:10

We put ours on 22.Is this bad? The rooms are big though in relation to the size of the radiators. No wonder our gas bills are so high!

nappyaddict · 04/01/2009 00:17

squatchette - it really depends on what your actual room temp is. Sometimes the room temp can actually be a few degrees higher or lower than what the thermostat says it is meant to be.

So even though your thermostat is 22 you may actually only have a room temp of 18. You should get a few thermometers so you can see what the real temp is and turn thermomstat down accordingly.

my thermostat is set at 18-19 degrees. I have no idea what the actual temperature in the house is but it varies from room to room anyway (mostly colder than I'd quite like! - bloody old houses/ sash windows/ open fireplaces and draughts - not that I'd swap them, except the draughts!)

Iamagrownup · 04/01/2009 00:23

We can't at the moment control the thermostat but our rooms are generally heated to around 20 degrees. I believe 16-18 is supposed to be the optimum temp but I find that is too cold usually.

itsaJollyHolidayForMary · 04/01/2009 00:27

15? that is not heated

thumbwitch · 04/01/2009 00:28

nappyaddict, I think I am right in saying that 15 degrees is a minimum temperature for schools and workplaces and if the temp falls below 15 degrees, everyone can go home. So I would say 15 is probably a tad low.

Tiggiwinkle · 04/01/2009 00:28

My thermostat is upstairs-next to the airing cupboard with the boiler in it!

If it is set at 22 the heating does not even come on! It is at 25 at the moment and the temperature downstairs is around 20 and feels on the chilly side.

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 04/01/2009 00:30

23 degrees, but it was a condition of my marriage.

Also, I aint bfing in the night in anything less. Brrrrrrrrr!

itsaJollyHolidayForMary · 04/01/2009 00:30

our thermostat is set to 19 when we are in. It keeps its heat quite well actually so the heating is not always on to keep it at this. We adjust the individual radiators to max in whatever rooms we are in (except DDs room as it gets very hot in there).

Sometimes, it we are in more than planned, we will turn it up to 21 when the heating first comes on, to take the nippy edge off, occasionally it has been as high as 22 (if its very cold out or if I need to dry some trousers quickly!).

lljkk · 04/01/2009 07:28

Bedrooms (all of upstairs) around 13-15,
downstairs is 14-17. We have thermometers in most rooms, so I am confident on those numbers, the actual boiler we set to kick in at 15.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/01/2009 08:02

17-18C

it is however. 10.9C in here atm. Its no wonder I'm cold (can't stand heating overnight)

Flightattendant7 · 04/01/2009 08:10

I am the same as kitten, somthing between 17 and 18 according to the thermostat.

Getting new system soon which scares me as I won't know what I'm doing any more! But might be more cost effective than the 23 yr old one we have now

I turn it down to 15 when we go out and sometimes overnight as it gets too hot.

when we get in from outside, i always feel too hot so it takes a while before I'll remember to turn it back to 17.

arabicabean · 04/01/2009 10:02

Very cold this morning so set to 24C, but usual temperature is 22C. Have heating on 24/7 and it comes on at night if 19C. I can't stand a cold house.

Well, I wouldn't know now since we don't have a thermometer, but I remember 10 years ago the midwife telling me the room should be 18 degrees, and that felt quite cold to me!

LoveMyLapTop · 04/01/2009 10:07

20 - 22

2sugarsandapuppy · 04/01/2009 10:08

I always turn up the thermostat to 80 (don't know what that relates to, btw) when I get up on a school day at 5.00am and the house is freezing. Sometimes I forget to turn it down before H comes down and he goes ape.

nappyaddict · 04/01/2009 12:35

lljk are you comfortable at a temperature of 14-15 or does that feel cold?

OP posts:
MissAnthrope · 04/01/2009 12:38

It's 15 here too - any lower and I pop the heating on.

randomcupsoftea · 04/01/2009 12:40

15 is fine in our house. The thermastat is in the kitchen so it's 18 in there. We use this room alot as has a big table.

shinyshoes · 04/01/2009 12:40

18-20, it comes on 3 times a day (morning, afternoon, evening,) but it went off about 2 hours ago and feels rather nippy so I've switched it back on, I will probably have it on constant all day around 18 degrees.
