I have had no hoover for 10 days now…

?and the dreck is unbelievable.

The hoover gave up on Monday night last week, the replacement ordered via Amazon has not arrived yet (don?t ask) and so I have hovered once in 10 days (borrowed my neighbour?s last Friday).

Yet when I mentioned this to some pals, a number of them said they only hovered once a week anyway. This is people with small children too. How is this possible? I cannot stand it. I normally hoover downstairs every day and upstairs twice a week.

Am I mad? Looking at my house now, I think not.

I sympathise. I think that a really good vacuum cleaner is indispenable.

TrinityRhino · 11/12/2008 10:22

I have a very good dyson and the inability to use it to its fullest
I feel very bad all the time about my ineptitude regarding housework

mankymummy · 11/12/2008 10:26

My friend let herself into my house a couple of years ago to borrow my hoover. Then TWO WEEKS later she suddenly clapped her hand to her mouth and said, "oh my god... i forgot to tell you i borrowed your hoover and its still in the upstairs bedroom at my house".

i hadnt even noticed it had gone

TrinityRhino · 11/12/2008 10:52

roffle manky

I started when I last posted and I have literally just finished
our frontroom is open plan sort of dining room too, all carpeted, prabably park a bus in it
I'm sweating buckets, my head is pounding, I'm so unfit, hoovering really does wear me out and makes me hot and sweaty and very uncomfoortable

it looks better, we half filled the hoover with dreck (great word) but I can't use the long hosey bit to do the edges and the hose is really split
and when I hoovered up a small toy by accident and it got stuck in the brushes, I undid the bottom bit to get it out and realised that the small tube underneath the hoover that takes the shit from the brushes into the hoover is also split
now why the hel is my dyson just breaking all over the place, though they were hardwearing

its not like mine has ever been overworked

Geepers · 11/12/2008 10:54

Mine broke a couple of weeks ago and Dyson were going to be over a week coming out to repair it so I went straight to comet and bought a new one.

I have to hoover every day, usually 2-3 times. We'd be knee deep in mess if I didn't hoover for two weeks

I'd love a lodger like Geepers... its my fantasy to find a partner to live with who has some sort of cleaning fetish !

CaptainKarvol · 11/12/2008 11:15

I read the title and thought 'I wouldn't have noticed there was no hoover if it was only 10 days...' I don't know how often I hoover. Not often...

Geepers · 11/12/2008 11:17

Hoovering only takes a few minutes and makes a room look better immediately. I've already had mine out twice today, one to hoover throughout downstairs, and once for biscuit crumbs after messy 2 year old.

Anna8888 · 11/12/2008 11:23

That's a bit harsh, cat64. When you have small children who drop a lot of crumbs and constantly play on the floor, hoovering several times a day is just a fact of life (unless you want your child to collect all the crap on its feet and clothing).

Anna8888 · 11/12/2008 11:25

We also regularly have problems with mice in our apartment block - hoovering up crumbs ASAP and generally having a very clean home is the best way to combat infestations.

NewHollyOtherIvy · 11/12/2008 11:30

Nothing wrong with my hoover but it hasn't been moved for at least a fortnight

to be honest small child collecting crap on feet and clothing IS my method of hoovering !

Oh my gosh am shocked that some of you can not hoover for 2 weeks!

Maybe it?s cause it?s Christmas time but the rooms are just icky with bits ? not even glitter actually but scraps of cut up paper and slivers of tinsel. Eating is only in kitchen or dining room, and they are covered in bits of crumbs etc.

Mud and bits in the hallway arrrgh. Even the front room needs a good going over and no-one allowed to do anything in there (it?s newly decorated )

Are my children (and my adults!) very messy then? I certainly don?t have OCD as house is far from a spotless palace at the best of times.
But yes Geepers, hoovering the whole of my downstairs (not with nozzly bit or anything, just a whiz round) takes 10 mins, I have timed it. And it looks soooo much better.

Surprised you can find the time, honey

NewHollyOtherIvy · 11/12/2008 11:47

We come into the house through the backdoor so all mud & other bits of shite can be easily washed off the tiles (brushed first). We eat in the kitchen and just pick up any big bits off the living room carpet as we see them.
I just find I have other more interesting things to fill my time with

randomxmas · 11/12/2008 11:48

I vacuum upstairs & downstairs once a week (more if needed) but do the kitchen nearly everyday or else I sweep it.

Clary · 11/12/2008 13:16

I have plenty to fill my time with too.

I don?t seem to have any extra spare time now I am not hovering, not that I?d noticed anyway. Not going to bed hours earlier or anything!

Actually washing kitchen floor and picking bits off living room carpet sounds a lot more time consuming than my quick hoover

Chill out, Clary.

It can all get a bit heated on these housework threads.

You and Geepers are happy to hoover often so that's fine by me.

P'raps you could come round & do mine too?

deckthegirlandboywithholly · 11/12/2008 14:33

I have to hoover every day, else the place looks a tip.

Log burning stove in front room....bits of ash and slivers of wood everywhere.

A seemingly fluffy husband who drops "bits" off him, everywhere he walks.

A grimy ds who seems to attract mud at an alarming rate and then sheds it all in the house.

Dd and I are squeaky clean and hover everywhere, thus not dropping bits.

I could go on and on and on for reasons why I have to hoover every day.

whoingodsnameami · 11/12/2008 14:34

I have to hoover at least twice a day, but then I am slightly obsessed my hoover is never put away and always plugged in ready to go.

BellaKissedSanta · 11/12/2008 14:34

I'll put you on the rota too then, deck..holly

ComeAndSeeMyBaubles · 11/12/2008 14:35

Every day here.
