The best oven cleaner

Libra1975 · 24/11/2008 19:25

Hello, hope this is the right place. Everytime I cook something in our oven it produces billowing smoke from "bits" at the bottom of the oven. Yes I know that's revolting and that's why in time for Christmas I am going to get on my hands and knees and give it a good scrub. The question is apart from elbow grease what is the best cleaning product for ovens? And no I don't mind if it is so toxic it makes baby deer weep as long as it cleans my oven.

Thanks.

I used a glass ramekin of household ammonia (bought in Homebase) and left it in a cold oven for 24 hours. I put the shelves in a black plastic bag with another splash of ammonia and et voila - a sparkling oven and shelves! Except the glass, it didn't shift the brown streaks. (tip: use masking tape to seal up the oven so you don't forget yourself and open it - I did after an hour and the smell of the ammonia brought tears to my eyes!

Mr muscle oven spray does the job here, for quick clean in between the oven man coming round to do it (he has a scrapey tool) every two years or so.

Oven pride smells deathly to me Confused but it does work

Soda crystals also good for not overly dirty ovens. Mix to paste with water, leave on, wipe off but wear gloves.

The bit at the top where the grill element is row' will yours sort of unhook at the sides and drop down a bit? That's the only way to get to mine. Most annoying!

DayLillie · 18/11/2014 12:42

When it is clean, wipe around it with bicarb and warm water. I leave a paste of it on the bottom of my oven which has annoying furrows, which gunk up. When you come to clean it next time, an old cloth and warm water and washing up liquid will suffice.

(foil on the bottom is definitely better, but it blows around with the fan)

Oven pride. It shifts everything and oven will look new. It's not very pleasant stuff and don't spill it on any wood (floor or worktop) it instantly turns it black (bitter experience).

libra101 · 19/11/2014 16:32

I agree with little dolly, Oven Pride is fantastic. Hardly any work to have a gleaming oven.

The cheapest place I have found it is at Home Bargains, it cost just over a couple of quid.

Why stardops mumdrivenmad?
I am curious - is there a link with fire?

Oven clean is okay but I felt like I was taking part in a chemical experiment and nearly passed out with the fumes

RobotRuthy · 19/11/2014 18:20

Ovenpride marked the silver handle on the outside of my new oven as I had the chemical on my glove and shut the door (idiot!) Even though I rubbed it off quick.

Be careful...or just more sensible than me. Blush

Tinyminx · 19/11/2014 23:29

Loolabelle....the husband wasnt happy his pork was sabotaged....fnarrr!

Yep, ovenpride all the way. Love it love it love it. I love looking at an oven so clean it looks new.

It is realy good I always buy it and it makes short work of an awful task

I used the London Oven Cleaning Company. But I suggest you don't, they are terrible. My Oven cleaning review for the the London oven cleaning company is No stars. I suggest you avoid them at all costs.

Smcgettigan79 · 23/04/2015 08:35

this is perhaps a bit late but top tip! For the shelves and glass of the oven, stick them in the dishwasher on the hottest wash it has and then half way through take them out, give them a quick onceover with a brillo pad or scourer and stick them back in to finish the cycle - look like new - especially the glass.

I'm going to get some oven mate tomorrow - my oven is grim at the moment!

I arranged for my oven to the cleaned by Ovenclean. I live in Burton upon Trent. A worker by the name of Lawrence did not turn up by the appointed time, I phone the office who said they would ring me back, but they didn't. So I make a second call and told he is 20 minutes away. 25 minutes later he rings me to say he can't find where I live. During the conversation his is rude to me. When he arrives at my house 40 minutes late I point this out to him and he tells me HE HASN'T GOT A HELICOPTER !!!!!!!!! I threw him out of my house for being a complete moron. Phoned office and getting my £25 deposit returned. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY THEY ARE TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL AND WILL ONLY GIVE YOU GRIEF !!!!!!!!!!!!
