Bras - do you handwash yours or just bung them in the machine?

Do they really last longer if handwashed?

I fold them in half and put them in a net bag and shove in the washing machine.

bodiddly · 12/11/2008 08:00

bung mine in the machine ... don't have time for hand washing! If I ever buy something that needs hand washing it ends up sitting in bottom of the laundry basket for months on end!

hippipotami · 12/11/2008 08:01

Oh the machine, always the machine. And they are fine

Anna8888 · 12/11/2008 08:02

Machine wash. Occasionally I have disasters (the underwire working loose and getting into the pump) but life is far too short to spend time washing bras by hand.

theSuburbanDryad · 12/11/2008 08:18

Machine. My bras are farkin bullet proof anyway.

yawningmonster · 12/11/2008 08:20

machine but do hooks up as I have learned the hard way that bra hooks and other clothes are not always a good mix

LisaLessLumpy · 12/11/2008 08:34

I am the same as bodiddly I have a top languishing in the basket for about three months now so yes, bras get bunged in the machine.

moshie · 12/11/2008 08:35

machine wash in a padded net bag from Lakeland, no more wires escaping now

Bulletproof bras, they do exist

oops try again

malovitt · 12/11/2008 08:57

Hand wash - always.

Two reasons - it increases their life dramatically, mine still look new despite being donkeys years old, and the experience of a hefty machine repair bill after a piece of underwire worked its way out during a wash.

kiddiz · 12/11/2008 09:06

I don't handwash anything! Lifes too short!
Ds1 once bought himself an FCUK jumper in the sale. He then informed me that the label says it must be handwashed. My reply was, "yes it may well say that but I can't see anywhere where it says those hands have to be mine". Said jumper now goes on a wool wash in the machine and is fine!!

AMumInScotland · 12/11/2008 09:23

Handwash - since a wire came out in the machine and caused serious damage. Luckily the repair man let it go under warranty, but it wasn't really covered and would have cost a fortune.

theSuburbanDryad · 12/11/2008 09:30

PMSL Kiddiz! I am going to remember that for when dc are older and present me with handwash only items!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/11/2008 09:32

machine wash though I did go through a phase of washing them in the bath with me. Perhaps I might do that again.

Clayhead · 12/11/2008 09:34

Handwash always.

HolidaysQueen · 12/11/2008 09:39

i machine wash but they do get wrecked more quickly. i wish i was organised enough to handwash them!

as yawning monster says, definitely do up the hooks first as it makes untangling the wash so much easier!

avaTsar · 12/11/2008 09:45

Machine in net bag.

When they are new I handwash them (about once) and promise I will always do so.

But after one week I can't be arsed and they end up rammed in the machine along with all the other stuff in the hot wash.

Maybe that's why my bras look grey and gutless and washed out. Oh dear

jelliebelly · 12/11/2008 09:46

life is surely too short to spend it handwashing anything - that is what washing machines were invented for

MrsMattie · 12/11/2008 09:46

Machine. I handwash clothes only under extreme duress.

ohdearwhatamess · 12/11/2008 09:53

Machine. Life far too short for handwashing.

Elk · 12/11/2008 09:54

My machine has a handwash cycle that is really gentle (I often have to go and check it is working) so I use that.

bella29 · 12/11/2008 09:57

I handwash mine in the bath with me!

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/11/2008 10:18

handwash, except for wired ones and sometimes hand wash white ones so they don't go grey and dismal.

Niecie · 12/11/2008 10:25

Machine - mine would never get washed otherwise, I would never get round to it and spend my life saggy chested - not a good look.
