We still are managing without heating. New hot water bottles have been bought. I am looking out bargain woollies on eBay.

How's everyone else doing?

Sorry, I am old and I have to have the heating on, I leave on all year, just set the thermostat to what is comfy and let it turn its self on and off as and when.

Riven

I had it on for two hours on Sunday evening but haven't since. Have a fleece blanket on the sofa for the evenings and have taken a hot water bottle to bed a couple of times. The only time I've felt freezing is when I get up to ds in the night but the heating wouldn't be on then anyway.

Today the sun is shining into the conservatory so downstairs is lovely and warm.

uberalice · 09/10/2008 12:55

Only a couple of times recently when MIL was visiting. We light a woodburning stove in our living room and keep warm in there. Also good for drying clothes. Just bought DS a warmer duvet so no heating on upstairs either.

tassisssss · 09/10/2008 12:56

only on here when we have folk round (ok so that's most days but i turn it off as soon as they leave!!)

Bridie3 · 09/10/2008 13:06

Yeah, Riven, your family NEEDs heating on in a way most able-bodied folk don't.

I'd turn mine on if we had company.

Me.

Is there a smug-and-self-righteous emoticon?

Cadelaide · 09/10/2008 13:08

Actually, tbh, we haven't been cold yet, and today is beautiful. Bright sunshine and blue, blue skies.

TeenyTinyTorya · 09/10/2008 13:10

Mine's off - I'm holding out as long as possible. Just as well I'm a knitter.

chocolatedot · 09/10/2008 13:13

Our heating never goes on before November and always goes off in March. I was amazed to read that a measure of fuel poverty is being able to maintain an indoor temperature of 21C. Our house is NEVER than warm.

SaintRiven · 09/10/2008 13:24

21? that like balmy summers day. Mine is set at 17.

piratecat · 09/10/2008 13:52

do you think the energy companies will see a real loss in thier takings, generally.

i know they have upped the prices, and it may be comparable, but surely they now won't be getting as much as they hoped?

then they will poss put it up more?

kerryk · 09/10/2008 13:55

not sure piratecat, esp since i know of three people who dont even pay for there gas/elec useage so just have the heating on all day everyday.

cheesesarnie · 09/10/2008 13:57

us.we have none so dont do the big switch on.we just gradually turn bluer

shinyshoes · 09/10/2008 13:59

We haven't turned it on yet.

When te children get cold I tell them to put on teir dressing gowns and slippers, it seems to work well Today is 18 degrees and lovely and warm in the sun, the back door leading directly into the lounge is wide open,.

When I start cooking I find it heats up the downstairs anyway

snorkle · 09/10/2008 14:07

None on here - it's sunny today & I'm sat in the conservatory in a T-shirt feeling very warm - the door is open to the house so the conservatory is heating the rest of the house too. Was cold earlier in the week though.

SaintRiven · 09/10/2008 14:09

tis cold now sun has gone in. Will light fire in front room about 4pm so dd will be alright.

beansmum · 09/10/2008 14:10

None on here, it is getting cold though. I think my downstairs neighbour has his on, that always helps a bit.

AccidentalMum · 09/10/2008 14:13

Not here yet but the clothes are taking two days to dry so may crack soon. 21C is stupid hot.

MascaraOHara · 09/10/2008 14:14

I haven't got mine on yest.. Although starting to feel the cold in the evenings I'm still hot at night and warm enough in the morning.. even with my window open slighty.

Did buy a thicker quilt this summer though

dd complained last night she was cold when she got into bed.. might put the fan heater on in her room for 5 minutes tonight.

Also trying to hold out until November . Benchmark for me is.. if I can keep it off until the half term holiday and put it on when I come back

RhinestoneCowghoul · 09/10/2008 14:16

No heating on here yet, but no CH so just gradual turning on of storage heaters. V V rarely have heating on upstairs in any case.

Have used the room/bath thermometer thing from when DS was a baby and the temp has only dropped to just under 16 degrees in the house at coldest. Pretty mild for the past couple of days too.

Have bought nice fleecy blanket for the sofa.

LittleMyDancingWithTheDevil · 09/10/2008 14:24

21 degrees? I'd be sweltering! Ours is on but set to 18 degrees and the last few days it hasn't come on at all. I open all the windows when I leave for work to air the house (damp problem) and then shut them as soon as I come home at 5pm and it seems to stay at around 18 ish at the moment.

Then I open bedroom ones when we go to bed, can't stand hot bedrooms, and all that sweaty condensation on the window. Yuk.

mumbee · 09/10/2008 14:33

OH i must be cold yes our si on!
DP and myself were ill last week so our heating came on for an hour in the morning and for an hour in the evening since, we all wear warm dressing gowns and slippers but we do have laminate flooring which does make the downstairs feel cold, fleece blankets and warm quilts are also in use!

we are trying to put it on in the day and only the 1 hour at the moment set to 17degrees

chocolatedot · 09/10/2008 14:35

"A fuel poor household is commonly defined as one which needs to spend more than 10% of household income to achieve a satisfactory heating regime (21 C in the living room and 18 C in the other occupied rooms)". Taken from a government website. Still find it amazing that 21C is regarded as the satisfactory temperature for a living room.
