washing machine & washing up liquid

Is it ok to use some washing up liquid in the washing machine as I've run out of washing machine liquid?

Never tried it but I seem to remember a thread on here from someone who did & ended up with foam all over the kitchen floor....

Its the supermarket cheapest brand so if I put in just a few squirts it might be ok....

I'd wait. I don't think the insurance company cover for using washing up liquid instead of washing powder.

You are right of course but I'm going to try as I wont be able to go to the shops tomorrow. Hope it doesn't flood - I'll put in one squirt so hope it actually gets the clothes clean.

It's 11pm - you can't possibly have any washing so urgent it can't wait for you to go out & buy some proper clothes detergent tomorrow

For future ref, stock up on Simply - order one day, delivered next day, then you have months' worth of detergent on hand

DON'T DO IT!! -from bitter experience foam will pour out of the detergent drawer in an unstoppable tide. YOU WILL REGRET THIS DECISION!!

Done it!!!!

Put in the smallest squeeze in the drawer & put on the quick wash with two rinses. Water has emptied the drawer (or the liquid has just run into the machine as runny) Couldn't see any bubbles in the main drum yet. When I use liquid you see the foam at the start.

Have to do the washing as have a backlog & tomorrw I can dry it outside when Im out.

'tis fine!!! Feels wetter than usual, colder and cloth feel rougher. Perhaps it will be like cardboard when dry!

My dad used to use washing up liquid when we were kids if he couldn't afford wash powder & the clothes all dried fine as far as I recall. Just didn't smell of fab softener & feel quite as soft until dried iirc
