Do you put anything unusual in your dishwasher?

I ask because I've finally got one after 15 years without. Absolute heaven. Have now done everything obvious in the kitchen and wondering what else I could do.

Whacked in the washing up bowl and drainer etc alongside dustpan. All Addis plastic and they came up a treat. Could I try DS;s sand toys bucket and spades etc do you think. Any other ideas?

a glass vase would be fine

stick it in

LittleMyDancing · 15/09/2008 17:50

have just put all the bath toys in the dishwasher, inspired by this thread. I was just thinking how mouldy they all looked yesterday!

Hope they don't melt....

GrimmaTheNome · 15/09/2008 19:40

The lids off sport-top bottles for DD to reuse for school (the bottle has to be washed in not-too-hot water. Have you ever tried really hot water in a PET bottle?)

mrspink27 · 15/09/2008 21:55

I am going to try our compost crock thing... Its v disgusting. so will await the results!

HuwEdwards · 15/09/2008 21:57

Met a guy once (platonically) on a skiing trip who claimed he washed his socks in the chalet dishwasher.

That's nice.

blackrock · 15/09/2008 22:57

A match stick The nice German Bosch rep found it

Furball · 16/09/2008 06:04

NDP - I also put our toothbrushes in weekly, which I've mentioned before on here and got posts of disgust????

Oven shelves also go in and so do the top not the burner but the cooker rail thingy that goes round the edge of the gas cooker that you sit the pans on (sorry can't discribe it better than that!)

I also put in fridge shelves and those drawer things that go in the door of the fridge for things like milk, eggs and butter.

bumbling · 16/09/2008 17:12

So useful. Have done the bathroom, washing machine dawer toothbrush pots etc. Quite like the idea of toothbrushes but still haven't quite managed yet. Don't really know why not, but will do it Furball.

Vases definitely work, mine ar enow cleaner than they have been for years. Love the idea of all the fridge and cooker things. Think that may be next though I'm a bit ashamed of some of the cooker bits and suspect even my new DD (Darling Dishwasher) can't sort without me resorting to elbow grease first...

Grimma - Can you put in old platic waer bottles, evian and the like? DS has a favourite one at the mo and it's really little and doesn't get spilled as much as the others. Would love to give a really good wash in the dishwasher.

Don't put in ski goggles if they have that double lens thing that stops them fogging up - the water gets in between the lenses and it was a nightmare to get out again. I thought it would be a good way of removing suncream residue. It was not.

bumbling · 29/09/2008 20:14

Very funny! Will remember your wise words JD.

I know someone who puts her dildos in there!

I've put in DDs highchair (in bits obviously). It's one of those Antilop ones, comes up a treat.

NotAnOtter · 29/09/2008 20:19

crocs

mehgalegs · 29/09/2008 20:21

NAO - I was about to say crocs but I shrunk mine when I put them in my old dishwaher so watch out.

EyeballsintheSky · 29/09/2008 20:22

Blimey you lot are adventurous. I was only brave enough to put DD's bottles through it yesterday and not sterilise them after!

stitch · 05/10/2008 13:26

be careful with glass vases. i put a beautiful one in, but becuase it was mad of quite thick glass, it couldnt cope with the high temperatures and came out all cracked.
i regularaly put the washing up brushes in, and the dishcloth has been known to go in. baby bottles of course. in fact, now i think the whold sterilising thing for bottles is yuck!

mablemurple · 05/10/2008 13:36

One of the mingers on How Clean Is Your House used to put her (unrinsed) stirrups in. With the dishes. [gag emoticon]

jooseyfruit · 05/10/2008 14:08

kitchen bin lid and cutlery drawer.
at mooncup tho.do you put it in by itself (not v.green!!) or with other things?

kiddiz · 05/10/2008 15:31

I saw that program too mable. It was yuk.
I put my dd's fake luminous halloween fangs in ....by mistake. I clearly wasn' using fairy thingys as per Ainsley Harriott because they came out orange! But in my defence the packaging did say wash thoroughly before use.

QOD · 05/10/2008 15:42

my dd;s swim goggles are in there waitin for the next load to g on! Her friend borrowed them yesterday and has mucky looking eyes...
