Do you put anything unusual in your dishwasher?

I ask because I've finally got one after 15 years without. Absolute heaven. Have now done everything obvious in the kitchen and wondering what else I could do.

Whacked in the washing up bowl and drainer etc alongside dustpan. All Addis plastic and they came up a treat. Could I try DS;s sand toys bucket and spades etc do you think. Any other ideas?

Rubber gloves will get v wet inside so don't put in dishwasher unless you can be bothered to dry them thoroughly inside.

bumbling re the temperature ime 50 is fine for most things (and will work out massively cheaper and more eco friendly in the long term.) Why not just put one toy first as a trial in with your normal crockery on a 50, as an experiment?

Bumperlicious · 14/09/2008 13:13

I was about to say salmon but see lots of you have beaten me to it! Been watching Come Dine With Me by any chance?

bumbling · 14/09/2008 13:19

Jolly GOod idea One Piece. Have to say that normally either the quick wash at 35 degrees or the monster at 65 are the ones that work for the day to day. I desperately wanted eco to be useful but it seems the worst of the bunch... v sad.

Okay. Couple of toys in. Dustpan Brush now in given all the brush comments. Bathroom empited! Anything else?

Kitchen bin lid

onepieceoflollipop · 14/09/2008 13:28

Our eco takes ages but it is fine apart from that. Our 35 quick wash is a bit too quick, and if I am washing anything other than cups and biscuit plates etc a lot of "bits" get left in the glasses.

grouchyoscar · 14/09/2008 13:55

Compost caddy

MrsBick · 14/09/2008 13:59

but don't all the germs from manky stuff like bin lids and dustpans go into the dishwasher...isn't a bit gross then to put your pots in it?

bumbling · 14/09/2008 14:00

I'm doing the normal stuff separately MRsB bt take your point. Oooh the compast caddy, that means I really could recycle food...reducing excuse not to have copmost yuk in kitchen...

I am liking this thread but at car ashtray

FabioBigBangBlackHole · 14/09/2008 14:04

plaeaurgh to the mooncup

one hopes a hot empty wash follows the bin lids, crocs and bog brushes or what have you

Please don't dishwash your cat

When I sneeze, I can still taste rinse aid.

bumbling · 14/09/2008 14:04

First batch in. Am ignoring all sensible advice and the wash is on at 65. Microbiologist recently told me you have to wash anything at 60 or more to actually kill bacteria. This was during a discussions about cleaning hospital uniforms etc to tackle MRSa fyi!

I always use the 65 wash now. I tried the cooler one and everything came out dirty. I only put it on evry 2 or 3 days though.

janmoomoo · 15/09/2008 13:42

I put a load or ornaments and vases in mine when I moved house. Came out fine.

i have done dishwasher loads of plastic toys

paddling pool toys / sand toys (properly rinsed 1st) bath toys / duplo / toy tea sets, pretty much anything made of plastic that doesnt melt

my rule of thumb is that almost everything that isnt alive or electronic can go in either the dishwasher or washing machine, and that includes almost all kids toys

EachPeachPearMum · 15/09/2008 17:03

Haha- there was once a thread on here about people washing their sex toys in them....
probably more unusual.

giraffeskeel · 15/09/2008 17:06

Mooncup.

And I also put the dish washing brush in there. Not dishcloths though, i have about a million of these, new one every day or more often, and they get bunged in the washing machine.

giraffeskeel · 15/09/2008 17:08

ooh might try bath toys, currently contemplating chucking some rather than scrub with toothbrush, but maybe I could try dishwasher first. Hadn't occurred to me.

OrmIrian · 15/09/2008 17:11

Small children. They come up a treat. Ditto cats.

InTheseShoes · 15/09/2008 17:18

An estates manager I worked with claimed you could revitalise a plastic chair by sticking it into the dishwasher sans legs. Would you bother though?

Salmon I have heard, but - no thanks!

HollyGoHeavily · 15/09/2008 17:25

Oooohh - do you think you can put glass vases in there (just IKEA ones - nothing fancy in this house)?

According to my MIL, mine are filthy

noddyholder · 15/09/2008 17:25

sunglasses and crocs

TheProvincialLady · 15/09/2008 17:31

Tent pegs
Rare books
The lawnmower
Picture frames

Come on people, there are some things that are better washed by hand still!
