Bulk buying greetings cards....

UndercoverMother · 08/08/2008 11:24

I would like to bulk buy a big batch of birthday / new home / birth congrats etc etc cards to save money.

Can anyone suggest a good online site where I can do this (am guessing online will be cheapest).

Thanks

I don't know about online sites but Phoenix cards are good value IMO but have to be bought from one of their sellers. There's bound to be one near you. Just google Phoenix Trading.

ComeOVeneer · 08/08/2008 11:29

Moonpig?

cornsilk · 08/08/2008 11:29

I get mine from M and S - only £1!

The Book People have 30 shrinkwrapped cards for £7.99. Bargain!

RusselBrussel · 08/08/2008 11:33

Do you have a Costco card, or know someone who has?

They do a big cardbord box thing (a card organiser type box) full of gorgeous handmade cards. For every occasion.

I think it costs something like £12 for nearly 50 cards.
Not only are the cards seriously cheap, they are also very unique and look very expensive - almost all have things stuck to the front, for instance I had a lovely one with fabric bunting on it, and I gave ds's teacher one with a cardboard washingmachine on the front, which had a 3d clear plastic circle on it (as the washing machine door) and inside it were tiny properly knitted socks, which were loose inside the 'washing machine' so moved when you shook the card. It was a new baby card and just the cutest!

Sorry, bad description, but ihykwim.

Wilkinsons are the cheapest I've found. Our school also gets a catalogue before Christmas for ordering giftwrap (PTA gets a cut). The giftwrap's not especially cheep but you can get a box of (not very exciting) birthday cards for around £6 - ok for "token" type of cards or older kids

Thanks for quick replies!

Cornsilk - I have bought from M&S before - their cards are great aren't they, but I was hoping I might be able to get them cheaper than £1 each...

COV - I have looked at Moonpig but they all seem to be the personalised ones and so although fantastic they aren't great on the money saving side (unless they have a bulk bit I am missing)

Smugmumofboys - Will investiage Phoenix too, thanks.

you can,or used to be able to get nice selections from Save the Children catalogue ... I know it's expensive (and imo cards are ridiculously expensive, but I get immense pleasure from choosing individual cards for each person rather than having to pick from a selection - but that's just my little fetish)
or get your dcs to gave a go at designing some and photocopy or scan and print onto card, finish off with a bit of colour/glitter.

littlerach · 08/08/2008 11:37

Book People often do boxes of 30 cards which are really nice.

PinkChick · 08/08/2008 11:38

we have a shop in town cetnre called card cage(i think) you can buy 7 birthday(only though) for £1..they do for dd's school friends and people who i dont know very well, theyre nice though, like tatty teddy type

UndercoverMother · 08/08/2008 11:38

And thanks for new replies too.

I will look at all the sites mentioned - I think my MIL has a Costco card so might have to ask her to investigate too.

It's hard isn't it - finding cheap gross cards seems to be easy but cheap ones that are nice enough for lovely friends is harder.

And MaryAnneSingleton I agree... I am sadly a bit obsessed with sending cards and love choosing the "right" card for each person, but I think I need to start being a bit more economical!

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/08/2008 11:44

mm, I know...

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/08/2008 11:48

duh, it was Unicef - though Save the Children might well do them...not a huge amount in each pack, but not too costly and very nice designs...unicef cards

UndercoverMother · 08/08/2008 12:36

Right, I know this is sad with a capital S, but in case anyone is interested, this is the hall of fame for cheapest cards based on your recommendations...online only although the high street places sound great too...

Costco - (love the sound of the socks in washing machine card RusselBrussel) -( £12 for 50) = 24p each

Bookpeople - £7.99 for 30 = 27p each

Museum Selection - £6.99 for 20 = 35p each (although are doing offer for half this at the mo)

Unicef - £5.95 for 10 = 59p each

I have emailed Phoenix too but does anyone know how much each card works out? From the examples they have on their site they look great and are more specific (i.e. Happy 1st Birthday) than the places listed above which are all quite general.

TheGirlwithGreenEyes - I couldn't find Wilkinsons, are they a shop or a website?

Anyway, off now to think about more money saving tips, happy card buying and thanks for all the advice.

tesco value cards are nice and most are about 25p each although some are upto 70p

The book people cards are really nice and good quality and 3 for £1.50.

both of those you need to go to the shop as not available online

TinkerBellesMum · 08/08/2008 12:58

I use these.

Furball · 08/08/2008 12:59

IMHO pheonix cards are nice and are good value at £1 but there are cheaper. The other thing I've found with pheonix is it's the same cards all the time so after say 12 months you are stuck for fresh choice.

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/08/2008 13:07

can't bring myself to like Phoenix cards as they turned me down when I presented my card designs !

smugmumofboys · 08/08/2008 13:22

Re: Phoenix Cards. I think if you buy 10 cards they work out at 80 or 90 p each. Their wrapping paper is lovely too. 90p a sheet if you buy 10 sheets.

I agree they can be a bit samey but they do bring out new designs each year to add to the favourites.

EustaciaVye · 08/08/2008 13:32

I like the book people cards. I also bought a pack in QS on the high street recently which was nice and very cheap. You can also buy bundles of cards on ebay although I worry about the quality there.

Veraa · 09/08/2008 15:24

www.jacquielawson.com/
You might be interested in this site. It costs around a fiver a year and you can send as many cards as you like. Some of the Christmas cards are especially good.
