My Mum makes me look like Anthea Turner (and trust me, I'm not)

She's rubbish at housework, but rubbish deliberately I think. My Dad was in the army and she spent all her life making sure the house was spotless. I think she's rebelling.

Anna, my dh and my mum do that. I will get a spoon out and put it down on the unit. Next thing it's disappeared, and been put in the sink or dishwasher.
My mum also will put about 3 cups and two plates in my dishwasher and then turn it on.
My mum is also a little bit too bleach happy for my liking.

I turn our mattress too. It says to do it on the instructions that came with it and I am an obsessive instruction follower.

I also wash rice. It makes it more fluffy and less likely to go all stuck together.

I do lots of this.........am I OLD???

I turn mattresses.

I do not iron undies however, nor bedding.

I wash my doors and skirting boards monthly or so, and the banister, and DH caught me washing the wall coming down the stairs the other day, as the kiddies do not hold the banister, they 'hold' the wall, and it was mucky!

When I first met dh his parents house was immaculately clean. They even had one of those little plates that you put dirty spoons on. Everything had to go straight in the dishwasher too. His mum also used to use Lard, and the freezer was full of frozen prawns. Gross.

Obsessive wiping and mopping around the shower tray after you've showered so that not a drop of wtare remains.

Everything in the fridge being decanted into tupperware containers.

Having about eight million different types of laundry detergent for every conceivable different type of fabric, wash temperature and so on.

Obsessive buying of household gadgets like steam cleaners, floor sweepers, mops, and so on.

Akchewerly I must confess to being a bit wierd about some things too - I like my sofa cushions just "so" and I do like a tidy house although I don't always manage to have it that way. I also have this thing about the house looking "nice" when DH comes home from work with no toys etc out, so will rush around like a mad thing tidying up just before he comes in. I draw the line at greeting him with a G&T though.

My mum is a far more relaxed housey person than me.

So, er, what does she do that I don't? Hmm ... she keeps decaffeinated coffee in the larder just in case a guest wants it.

However, we do both have one shared blind spot, about Boring Correspondence: both of us have those unfiled piles sitting about on surfaces. The stuff is all dealt with; but it just ... sits.

My parents have manky Schwartz spices priced in shillings, which means they're over thirty years old.

They throw a hissy fit each time I try to throw them out.

My Mum washes the clothes.

Pegs clothes on line

Takes washing off line

Folds clothes.

Stores folded clothes in ironing basket for about 6 months

Unfolds clothes.

Soaks with a spray water bottle

Irons

Hangs on airer to dry again

Folds and puts in washing basket for another few weeks.

The whole process is exhausting.

MIL's house is pristeen at all times

Plastic bags neatly folded in a box in the cupboard under the sink

No bins anywhere all rubbish taken directly outside

FIL washes up everything seconds after it's finished with

All washing is thoroughly aired for days even when bone dry when it comes in off the line

Everything is kept in the box it was bought in. Some of the boxes are 25 years old and falling to bits but are still in use

MIL wipes down the weashing line before hanging anything out - she looked at me like I was mental when I told her I had never seen anyone do that before (I hadn't, I boggled at her)

And so on ad infintitum
