Anyone else annoyed by tall pint glasses toppling in the dishwasher?

Heavybottom · 04/06/2026 23:24

I really didn't know where to post this but I have 6 pint glasses that have heavy bottoms. They are tall and won't stack in the top of the dishwasher without flipping over.
I'm there carefully and slowly closing the dishwasher door trying not to flip them and then there they go with a clatter.
I know there are more things to worry about but it annoys the fuck out of me.
What possessed Tesco to think this was a good design.
Rant over and I feel better for it.
I feel even better now that I've searched for a picture to attach and they seem to have stopped selling them.
Hurrah!
You've all been saved from the annoyance.

I have never drunk a pint of anything at home. Half a pint of anything is more than enough.

Get rid of the glasses and buy some nice ones that you like!

That’s nice, dear 🍺

rwalker · 04/06/2026 23:39

Just leave them out till it’s read to go I. Or there’s enough pots to wedge them in

i have same problem with wine glasses

SabrinaThwaite · 04/06/2026 23:45

If it’s those German style ones with the narrow but heavy bases, we put them in the bottom drawer, sort of wedged in the plate racks.

Davros · 04/06/2026 23:53

DD acquires them from the pub where she works, some great colourful and novelty ones. I lean them against the little flip down shelf in the top for lying knives or serving spoons down. Works perfectly

TheChosenTwo · 04/06/2026 23:55

Arghh I get the rage with these on a daily basis Op, you are not alone on this one.
i restack and put them at the bottom.
Everyone in my house except me drinks water out of pint glasses and there are always glasses toppling over on the top rack when I go to put it on 🤬

HedgehogsOnTheWall · 04/06/2026 23:58

Just put them on the bottom rack like a normal person. Confused

What if I'm not normal?

I thought I'd be the only one.
I feel so much better now I'm not alone in my simple struggles!

Standard straight sided pint glasses sit on the top rack just fine though.

Heavybottom · 05/06/2026 00:05

@Brandyb wow, who knew things like that existed!
I'm a little concerned about how excited I am about these.
Thank you!

They do yes. These don't.

I just hand wash glasses. I do not fancy cleaning broken glass out of the dishwasher and they're never so dirty that a minute in warm soapy water doesn't bring them up sparkling.

SabrinaThwaite · 05/06/2026 00:21

Yep. That’s why our bottom heavy ones go on the bottom rack. Never had an issue.

Heavybottom · 05/06/2026 00:27

I do have an issue which has now been solved by a pp suggesting the handy sticky things from Amazon.
They do not stand up in the bottom rack either.
I'm not so daft that I hadn't already tried that @SabrinaThwaite

Oh and you've not had a mention on TA lately?!

It’s hard when the TA scriptwriters forget about you. It’s like you’ve been silenced. The Button sisters feel the same.

(Our dishwasher has some closely spaced pegs on the bottom rack which means we can wedge the glasses in safely - I appreciate that not all dishwashers are like this).

canklesmctacotits · 05/06/2026 00:50

I’m glad you have a solution to your problem. I would love a solution to my dishwasher problem which is the underside of mugs being concave and collecting water. Sooooo irritating when unloading, slopping cold water down the front of my cabinets. IKEA have invented coffee mugs with a little cut out on the rimmed underside, I believe specifically for this purpose. Amazing, very Nordic clever. Sadly I mostly drink tea.

Tortoisel · 05/06/2026 01:37

Furious. I threw them all out bar one for DP who can hand wash it, and extended the ban to all high glass.

I only use low ball tumblers now. Want a bigger drink, fill a jug and refill.

angelcake20 · 05/06/2026 02:09

DD persists in drinking out of pint glasses (some of which date from our university days). I just wash them up.

wandawaves · 05/06/2026 03:44

I don't have pint glasses but some of our drinking glasses topple, and yes, it drives me up the wall. I usually wait until I have a heavier glass or mug to put next to it, to hold it up.

DontTeaseMyDog · 05/06/2026 04:15

Whats TA?

And I just prefer to handwash glasses, but honestly (don't shoot) i'm fond of disposable cups.

When the dishwasher gets overused the glasses suffer. They need washing after so I just gave up

Bjorkdidit · 05/06/2026 07:20

We have glasses that don't fit in the top rack but they're often unstable in the bottom rack too.

I like that Amazon adapter thing and might get one.

Although I do not hand wash anything, especially for other people so if I was the OP I might be tempted to charity shop them and buy new ones with dishwasher suitability in mind. In the meantime I would leave them on the side for 'you use it, you wash it'.

@canklesmctacotits we have mugs suitable for tea from ikea with drainage notches on the bottom.

WeAreStillHere · 05/06/2026 07:23

We have just moved house and now have this problem. Our old dishwasher they were just fine in, so dishwasher design is part of the problem!

fairislecable · 05/06/2026 08:20

Bjorkdidit -

I am mind blown that someone has actually thought about the problem of mug drainage and put it in their product design!

The splashy little puddles of water drive me mad on a daily basis.
