Does anyone know how much they charge?

No idea but absolutely fecking freaky. Have literally just picked up an ad leaflet put through my door.

Freaky.

lazarou · 19/06/2008 11:43

It was the competition that made me think of it.
I keep seeing their cars around and it doesn't say on their website how much they charge. I could do with having my house deep cleaned and then keeping on top of it myself.

expensive about £11.50 an hour and you need 2 hours at a time

tootiredtothink · 19/06/2008 11:54

I have just sent them an e-mail asking for a quote for a spring clean - will let you know when they get back to me.

How joyful would it be to come home to a lovely clean house - at the same time as telling dh how busy i had been cleaning all day

tootiredtothink · 19/06/2008 11:55

£11.50

Might have to get feather duster out myself!

lazarou · 19/06/2008 12:03

I'd love a regular cleaner.

MascaraOHara · 19/06/2008 12:07

they are extortionate

alibubbles · 19/06/2008 12:34

And they are rubbish at cleaning as they don't move ANYTHING! - insurance reasons, so don't expect them to clean under or behind the sofa!

nkf · 19/06/2008 12:35

Lots. It works out about £12 an hour.

lazarou · 19/06/2008 12:38

REally, they don't move things?! Crikey, my house would still be untidy then. Surely there's no point in having a cleaner unless they are prepared to do a thorough clean?
Thanks for all the info on them, think I'll wait until I have a spare evening and just go for it.

OP posts:
alibubbles · 19/06/2008 12:40

They vaccuumed around the toys in my children's room, left them all in a heap on the floor!

lazarou · 19/06/2008 12:46

What!? They don't even move toys? So I would basically have to tidy up before they got here then, lol!

Oh no - I must stick up for Molly Maid! We started having a cleaner while I was pregnant but we had so many disasters with ones who charged less that we really were pleased to get Molly Maid even though they charge more. We've had to go from a clean once a week down to one a fortnight because we couldn't afford more but Molly Maid are really reliable and I found that they clean much better than anyone else we've used. Plus, they come with their own cleaning kit so I don't have to buy stuff for them. (We had one cleaner who seemed to use a bottle of bleach a week.)

Twelvelegs · 19/06/2008 13:07

Whatever you do don't use 'time for you', awful awful company.

jolly100 · 07/01/2015 10:49

Molly Maid Cleaning poor. More of a wipe over. Damaged my floor but didn't come forward and tell me. When I noticed it they said that they would pay for a repair but that was 3 months ago and they haven't paid me yet. Not worth taking the risk with them

WellTidy · 07/01/2015 15:13

We used them for a couple of months. They are extortionately expensive in my area. Much more expensive than the competition. They did a very good job though. They sent two cleaners at a time, which made them very quick, and they bring their own cleaning equipment and products, which is also good as they use the things they find effective and you don't have to think about it.

But we paid a lot - 60 per week for a small 4 bed house. We are south east.

Molly Maid are on the dear side of cleaning, the cleaners get minimum wage and the rest of the money goes in to feed the huge franchise machine that it Molly Maid which is the way they have to operate.

By necessity a large franchise will need to charge it out at those prices, they don't sell it hourly but research (asking the clients we have picked up after MM) leads me to believe they charge in the way of £75 for an average clean in an average sized house, which is about £35 more than we charge! alot of those costs go towards management, office buildings, franchise fees, marketing, branding, fleets of cars etc.

They are not an agency, all their staff are employed by MM which is a big plus (agency staff are self-employed) and they do not promise an exceptionally detailed clean - they would never be able to absorb the training costs for providing detail cleaning - I know someone who used to work for them apparently training consists of watching a video and that's it! however, it has to be said they are very reliable and it does what it says on the tin.

Molly Maid are good at providing so-so cleaning and are hugely reliable they will always have the man-power to cover sickness and holidays but at the end of the day they are in the market for selling business rather than cleaning.

A smaller private company will be able to set there prices lower, although not as low as an agency given they have employment costs to cover and agencies send out self-employed cleaners much like a match making service. The trouble with agencies (having picked up many of their dissatisfied customers too!) is that they cannot legally train or equip their staff as they are self employed, I believe they very often shirk liability issues too as they have told people 'it's not our liability - she is self-employed' when damage has been reported! This is why they can be cheaper than private companies they just do not have the same level of control of staff due to the staff being self-employed, thus making it the same gamble as hiring a self-employed cleaner yourself and yet paying a third party for the privilege! Time for You are an agency!

Private independent companies with employees not self employed staff will have the tightest control over quality of service etc and they supply all the equipment and supplies, which is a must as they will have done risk assessment and material safety data checks to cover all concerned and make sure the materials of you home are cared for with the correct chemicals. Of course this is only true for companies who have done this research however, I would find it unusual for a private company not to take good care, word of mouth being a huge provider of business without marketing costs!

I hope this helps somebody, I know all the different cleaning business models can be so confusing, obviously we will only pick up a client when there has been dissatisfaction so I am aware there are agency clients who ARE happy with their service, it just seems a bit hit and miss due to the lack of control of the business owner, I prefer a more fully-managed approach, ask about customer service too, if there should be an issue is someone going to take care of it and who is that person and how will they deal with it, what procedure are in place for this?

HTH

BallsforEarrings · 21/01/2015 09:36

By the way, most essentially, whatever you do - don't hire an illegal operative, these people advertise in shop windows or on gumtree and want cash in hand, they are NOT registered to pay their taxes or equipped with necessary insurances. You take on HUGE liability if you hire these types and it just isn't worth it.

We have taken over many clients whose last service was an 'under the table' cleaning lady type and can't count the times permanent damage has been cause to expensive flooring and surfaces through having an untrained unprofessional person in who knows nothing about chemicals and damaged their beautiful home and is uninsured to correct such damage!

These clients are now happy to pay more having had a 'cheap' person cost them thousands of pounds.

Also you really do not want to get caught hiring someone like this - you could end up with huge fines if HMRC get wind of it and decide you were this person's employer they will want backpay on all tax and benefits you should have been providing so make sure someone you hire is registered as self-employed or a company. If they want cash payments RED FLAG - ask to see insurance documents!

Hi, The issues on this thread seem to be about cost of hiring a cleaner. Try fortnightly cleans or if the company states a minimum 2 hrs cleaning ask for the house to be cleaned upstairs one week and downstairs the next. Ask around for a good cleaner in your locality, they are out there but I suspect very busy as they are highly sought after.
