Which Henry Hoover?

GhostStress · 24/03/2026 15:40

Currently doing major renovations on house and clearing up plaster etc from carpets etc is not doing our Dyson any good.

Was thinking about buying a Henry hoover but not sure what to buy. Henry/Hetty or the pet one (have cats and a dog).

Any recommendations?

Love my Hetty. It’s a real work horse.

Henry is bigger than Hetty - how big is your house?

If I had pets, I’d go for the pet one

Burntt · 24/03/2026 19:56

Get the red one. My ex who was a painter and decorator had the red one. That thing apparently vacuumed up spilt paint! He just kept pouring more water on it and vacuuming it up and it was good as new. I got a hetty the pink one and it certainly is good but it’s not that good.

greenmarsupial · 24/03/2026 20:02

We have a Harry which is the pet one. I would definitely recommend- I looked at what the cleaners at work used and bought accordingly. If it can hoover glitter from a school carpet, it can do anything!

Going against the consensus so far, I hate my Henry. I hate his smiling face when he gets stuck on EVERYTHING I try to manoeuvre him round. He never picks up everything I want him to. He’s heavy and awkward and tricky on stairs. The only thing he has going for him is I have the cordless version. It’s much better not having him plugged in. Two battery packs and they last around 30 mins before needing recharging.

Castlerigg · 24/03/2026 20:23

I hate Henry too. Cannot go through a door without getting stuck on the door frame, and if you pull him, he just tips over. He’s a dick and I’m getting rid of him.

We've recently renovate and used a henry Xtra. I can't recall the difference, but think it include a longer handle and maybe a motorized brush thing also? Many of our trades carried around their own but didn't use the bag to catch the rubbish! When we used ours, it did suck all manner of crap things.

We've moved in now and also have a robo eufy and stick vac, but the henry is a workhorse with great suction. I do find it heavy and awkward to move around furniture now, but for DIY etc, its great.

Justwingingit2005 · 24/03/2026 20:29

We had a red henry but he died a terrible death (bounced down the stairs).
Got a shark, that died after 3 yrs so I treated myself to a new Henry, the pet version. Amazing.

🤣😅😂

See - i swear at mine and curse at him when he rolls over, but nothing sucks as hard as a red Henry with no bag inside.

You have to clean the fabric filter thing by banging it hard against a brick wall or something once every couple of weeks, but everything else you evhoovered up just sits in the bottom of the bucket and you just tip it in the dust bin.

My first Henry lasted 15 years like this and only died after being over used when we turned our house into an actual building site. Rubble ect.

2nd Henry - house still being built - going strong.

twentyeightfishinthepond · 24/03/2026 23:12

You need the numatic.

AdjacentPossible · 24/03/2026 23:45

Henry really is great.

I didn’t know you could get a cordless version, and whats this about not using a bag?

ToadRage · 24/03/2026 23:48

I love my little Hetty. My Mum bought it for us after our Dyson gave up. We gave a huge cheap vacuum that lives in the garage that we use when we've had work done but Hetty picks up cat hair best.

A dick? Indeed!!! Bad workmen always blame their tools!!!

Yes, we have the Henry pet xl, it’s amazing but it quite heavy. A bit of a trade off tbh

I am a bad workman! 😂 But Henry does give me the rage every time he smiles up at me sideways, having failed to navigate a door frame.

Seriously. No bag.

It's almost strong enough to suck up actual thoughts like that ! 🤪

Notagatekeeper · 25/03/2026 09:41

We went from Shark to Henry and it's been absolutely awful. It only been 7 weeks...

Our Shark started failing after 6 years so we thought we'd give Henry a go and Henry is worse than a failing Shark.

In hindsight I wish we went for another Shark or a Miele.

We cleaned out our old DIY Wickes vacuum (which was £40!) and started using that as it's so much better!

Notagatekeeper · 25/03/2026 09:43

The Wickes vacuum is now £55 I just checked 😁

MissCharlotteLutterell · 25/03/2026 09:44

I love my Henry. 25 years and still going strong. I got the pet hair brush attachment and that is awesome, and all you need.

To be fair to Henry, this is true of all the pull-along hoovers, it's not exclusive to him. I currently have a Dyson drag-along and it's a bastard for getting stuck on every single thing that sticks out.

I need a new hoover which is why I came here, but I'm still undecided.

Don't suck up plaster dust without a bag. I ruined ours doing that.

Also don't let a builder use it - make sure they use their own,

100% agree with this!

Also don't let my DH use it- he thought it was a wet/dry vac and was happily sucking up wet things which then clumped up in the hose and bag! 😩

Good advice.

In our case we are the builders tho ... fun times 🙄

LittleGreenDuck · 25/03/2026 11:14

I have a Hetty. She was £6 cheaper than the Henry, but appears to do the same job. Showing that the gender pay gap is alive and well 🤣

Ifailed · 25/03/2026 11:22

The Numatic (who makes Henry in the UK) Charles or George are the wet & dry version for domestic use.

Castlerigg · 25/03/2026 11:25

I’ve heard good things about the Titan wet & dry vacuum from Screwfix, that’s about £40. No personal experience with it though.
