Which Henry Hoover?

GhostStress · 24/03/2026 15:40

Currently doing major renovations on house and clearing up plaster etc from carpets etc is not doing our Dyson any good.

Was thinking about buying a Henry hoover but not sure what to buy. Henry/Hetty or the pet one (have cats and a dog).

Any recommendations?

To be fair to Henry, this is true of all the pull-along hoovers, it's not exclusive to him. I currently have a Dyson drag-along and it's a bastard for getting stuck on every single thing that sticks out.

I need a new hoover which is why I came here, but I'm still undecided.

The others don’t smile up at you like smug twats though, as if they’re proud of themselves 😂

No, this is true, at least my hoover is an anonymous bastard.

Firmly in the “I hate Henry” camp.

Relative was a buyer for Argos and she told me Henry is the best. They get hardly any returns compared to other vacuum brands.

I have s couple of very old Henrys. Modern ones aren't as good.

I also have the Miele cat & dog. Expensive bags that are full almost immediately.

I like my Shark upright but it's not good for everything.

And a Bosch weenie thing but it's pretty ok.

Oh & a handheld Dyson.

Old Henrys great for building work.

Others all have pros & cons.

He's the only one who smiles malevolently at you like he did it on purpose, though.

Our red Henry is about 37 years old. He's seen us through a major renovation, numerous DIY projects, raising children, and is still smiling. Yes, he has been known to tumble down the kitchen step but it doesn't injure him.

Various workmen have used Henrys and have always spoken highly of them.

Seriously. No bag.

It's almost strong enough to suck up actual thoughts like that ! 🤪

Edited

Wow, sounds dangerous 😄 - Henry is already the strongest sucker I know.

I have a Hetty. She was £6 cheaper than the Henry, but appears to do the same job. Showing that the gender pay gap is alive and well 🤣

🤣

Going against the consensus so far, I hate my Henry. I hate his smiling face when he gets stuck on EVERYTHING I try to manoeuvre him round. He never picks up everything I want him to. He’s heavy and awkward and tricky on stairs. The only thing he has going for him is I have the cordless version. It’s much better not having him plugged in. Two battery packs and they last around 30 mins before needing recharging.

If you had the corded one I bet it would pick everything up. I am a cleaner I have never used any cordless vacuum that is a tenth as good as a normal Henry.

I've had the same Henry since DD was 2.5. I know this is when I got him because she was in her very pink phase and had a HUGE tantrum in Currys, kicking and screaming on the floor, when I wouldn't get Hetty (I don't really like pink, especially that pink)! There was me with her twin brother (2.5) and DS1 (5), trying to figure out how to get this monster to the car with a toddler and carry a screaming child.

Anyway DD is now 17 so it's lasted very well. She's also been absolute delight for the last 12 years. 🥰

Lippitie · 25/03/2026 14:13

I would NEVER trade Henry for a different vacuum. They're all absolute shite in comparison, particularly if you have kids or pets or simply ever need a job doing properly.

Yep he doesn't like corners much but that's a small price to pay for something that is really tough and does the sodding job unlike the other piece of shite vacuums.

JellyTotsAreYum · 25/03/2026 19:18

If you've got building work going on get a Charles. He's a wet & dry vac and has a bigger capacity than Henry (although you can still use the smaller Henry bags in him). Also has more powerful suction than the latest Henrys (older Henrys are more powerful than new ones - environmental rule change a couple of years ago now I think. Think all wet/dry vacs are now more powerful than just vacs). Get an airobrush as well - it's like a spinning brush in the head which is great for carpets.
