What can I spray on that area before washing or do they need a higher temperature than 40 degrees?

I know someone who works in the costume dept for theatre productions, they use watered down vodka to treat sweat and stains. Works wonders.

I boil our sons shirts which gets them white once a month, the smell is easy to get rid of with a laundry perfume oil rather than softener and scent booster, they are just much stronger… there are quite a few in the uk now. I use Perfure, diamond is our favourite Perfure

i make my own spray - bio detergent liquid, vinegar plus Dr Beckman's odour remover, plus water. Spray the pits before washing (let stand a few hours if i can).

@ForOchreOP , Doesn't that just disguise the smell?

ForOchreOP · 26/03/2026 13:52

@Right2BareArmsthe boiling will kill any bacteria and get rid of any yellowing. The laundry perfume oil, is very strong compared to softener. Does it disguise it? Well it smells nice, I think that’s the point… Smile

Right2BareArms · 26/03/2026 14:00

boiling will kill any bacteria I'd seen that but isn't the smell sort of some lingering residue?

I can't stand the smell of fabric conditioner and I can't eradicate it. Not sure if the perfume would shift it.

ForOchreOP · 26/03/2026 14:08

Maybe give it a try? I think the problem is when you boil white shirts they just smell dull if that’s possible… I like my boys to smell as nice as possible 🤣
