Cleaning the loo brush

I'm almost too at the profoundly humdrum nature of this topic to post, but I do genuinely want to know:

How often do you clean the loo brush and what is your 'method'

(Mine is a haphazard stand it in the actual loo, and then pour bleach in and let it 'steep' in the bleach mixture for a while)

Non-U comes from the works of Nancy Mitford, who divided things into U (ie upper class) and non-U. Saying 'lavatory' is U, toilet is non-U (allegedly).

I will quite happily be non upper class.

I will wear by non-u baddge with pride

They left their loo brush behind? OMG!!!!! What on earth goes on in people's heads?

missblythe · 18/06/2008 09:17

Yuk Yuk Yuk, can't bear loo brushes.

Just put a whirl of beach round the loo every evening, then it does its magic over night (or until I get up for a wee)

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/06/2008 09:40

uh oh ! I left my loo brush in old house !!!

ChicaLovesBranstonPickle · 18/06/2008 09:51

A couple of times a week when I clean the loo I slosh a bit of bleach into the loo brush holder.

I think the loo in my new flat is a funny design, because it is impossible to do a poo without causing skids. [TMI I'd never had the problem before. So a loo brush is vitally important here!

When I was a cleaner in a health care centre we chucked the (good quality) brushes + stands into an industrial sterilizing boiler/washer once a week.

At home I lay (cheap) brush & stand in the bath, smother with bleach, then rinse close up with really hot water. Perhaps 4 - 5 times before I chuck & get new one. But I doubt if this cleaning process is any more environment friendly then just chucking & getting new ones all the time. Disposable rag + industrial gloves make more sense really.

DiscoDizzy · 19/06/2008 11:53

Don't like loo brushes, I use gloves and old rags.

I keep the loo brush and holder stored away from the loo in the utility room. I encourage the family to wipe the loo with toilet paper if they leave it dirty after use, then flush and wash their hands thoroughly as per Anthea Turner. I only use the brush to scrub with limescale remover etc so while it may have germs it does have soiling on it. After use clean it a few times in the flush and then leave to stand in the toilet bowl with a bit of bleach for a bit, then rinse in the flush and store back in the utility. Not having it near the loo means no guests or family are tempted to swipe off stains and replace it, soiled, in its holder, because that disgusts me.

Sorry, but you did ask.

ColumboTheFormerCookieMonster · 19/06/2008 13:40

Sorry , meant to say does NOT have soiling

I hate, hate loo brushes. Ewww, disgusting things.
