Silly question - how do I get rid of stains in cups? Is it safe to use bleach? or what else?

my mum uses steredent tablets - the ones for false teeth

emkana · 17/06/2008 20:58

Why did you get rid of your dishwasher?

Dh has cleaned his work cup with bleach in the past and he's still around to tell the tale.

Goober · 17/06/2008 20:58

Household bleach or a solution of washing powder and water.

JackieNo · 17/06/2008 20:59

Yes - denture cleaner tablets.

wem · 17/06/2008 20:59

a bit of laundry washing powder with hot water and leave for a few minutes gets tea stains out

popsycal · 17/06/2008 21:00

false teeth sterilising tablets

southeastastra · 17/06/2008 21:01

wire wool

RosaLuxembunting · 17/06/2008 21:01

Just a paste of bicarb and water works fine usually.

onepieceoflollipop · 17/06/2008 21:02

Get a j cloth or similar and dampen it very slightly. Dip it into some bicarbonate of soda and use it as a scourer.

I wouldn't use bleach as I used to work on a ward where one of the staff bleached the cups. She "forgot" to rinse mine properly - by accident or otherwise I never knew (she disliked me intensely) but I can still taste it now.

Bleach for toilets only imo.

Rowlers · 17/06/2008 21:03

Haven't you got a scourer?

MrsTicklemouse · 17/06/2008 21:03

bicrb should work but if it doesnt try one of those 'magic' sponges, i thought they were a con but have been converted, they are truly amazing!!!

We use the baby sterilisng tablets - especially for DD juice bottle for school - work a treat!

Rowlers · 17/06/2008 21:23

One of these, some hot soapy water, scrub for 5 - 10 seconds, bob's yer uncle

Rowlers · 17/06/2008 21:25

Have you done them then?
You don't need these fancy potions.
I want feedback

SlartyBartFast · 17/06/2008 21:26

i rub with salt, works a treat.

RusselBrussel · 17/06/2008 21:30

one of those green scourer cloth thingymijigs, works a treat!

Mummyandi · 17/06/2008 21:40

I used to use bleach but now I use Milton sterilising fluid. It works brilliantly

handlemecarefully · 17/06/2008 21:46

Must admit I use bleach, but having read this thread I may now try bicarbonate of soda

Bewilderbeast · 17/06/2008 21:50

I use milton, works like a dream and you know it's safe

cornflakegirl · 17/06/2008 22:30

magic sponges really are good. although they get manky quickly.

dishwasher powder works too - bung some in the cup, fill with warm water, leave to soak.

yelnats · 17/06/2008 22:33

I either rub with salt or some bleach - its fine as long as you rinse thoroughly.

TinkerbellesMum · 17/06/2008 22:43

I just sprinkle some bicarb in them, top up with water and leave to soak. At 30p a tub it's a lot cheaper than any cleaning products.

Also, use a teapot! The cups don't stain then

cornflakegirl · 18/06/2008 12:24

TM - is that really true that the cups don't get stained if you use a teapot? Do you put the milk in first?
