Silly question - how do I get rid of stains in cups? Is it safe to use bleach? or what else?

My mum uses a teapot for most of the time, and her cups do stain, although more slowly probably.

I use bleach - sure it's fine if you rinse properly. Works fantastically.

Wonder what the stain is and what the inside of my stomach must look like!

I think it's because of the tea standing in the cup longer.

I haven't used a teapot in ages, but I would still add sugar, tea and then milk if I was using one so that the sugar disolves properly.

tea stains come out with simple scrubbing with a scouring pad.

I just leave mine it's only a stain, it won't hurt you

bleach, ariel and other caustic substances almost certainly will, though
why would you put those in something you're going to DRINK out of?

TinkerbellesMum · 18/06/2008 20:57

How long did you leave the bicarb? Did it go all fizzy?

I sprinkle some in, add water and leave to soak for a bit, usually most of it wipes out.

I can't imagine bicarb will be effective unless it fizzes! It's about all it can do.

bohemianbint · 18/06/2008 21:29

salt and lemon juice...

Legoleia · 18/06/2008 21:30

is bicarb supposed to fizz with water? I thought it was with vinegar..?

ScienceTeacher · 18/06/2008 21:32

But it won't do anything in water. It will still be bicarb. If it is going to remove satins, it has to do something chemically.

napisan

TinkerbellesMum · 18/06/2008 21:55

It always fizzes for me and I never have problems getting the stains off.

Ah for the days when OxyClean could be put in your washing up bowl and everything looked great.
