Seems a shed load of money - Is it worth paying that much or not?!

Pans in need of replacing so just considering the options really...

I don't like the saucepans - they go really yukky if you burnt anything in them so would never use them but the casserole type dishes are great. But everything is incredibly heavy and wrecks the dishwasher drawer and cracks tiles when dropped (or cracks themselves). So, in a nutshell the big ones with lids yep.

Nagapie · 17/06/2008 14:13

I treated myself to one and I love it. I am sure there are cheaper and similar quality products on the market, but I admit to buying into a bit of a boast factor about it...

Saymyname · 17/06/2008 14:14

I've got a casserole dish and a griddle and they're both great. Would recommend.

i got a set of the saucepans on freecycle [pleased and smug] they are lovely but i would never have justified buying them. agree the casseroles are fabulous and definitely worth investing in.

ladyofwaffle - you put them in the dishwasher is that allowed?

forevercleaning · 17/06/2008 14:15

They are fab, if you have wrists like body builders and the oven is only 2 steps from the table as agony to carry!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 17/06/2008 14:16

Don't underestimate just how heavy they are. Perefct excuse to let DH do all the cooking and washing. Feet up.

warthog · 17/06/2008 14:16

i have a couple of big pans and am very happy with them. easy to clean, great for very slow cooking.

i'm not sure i'd like a whole set though, because of the weight.

Aero · 17/06/2008 14:18

Agree with LadyofWaffle. I don't like the saucepans, but I wouldn't trade my big lidded casserole which I've had for over 15 years now.

I don't find it a problem in the dishwasher - just very careful about how I set it in. It would definitely crack floor tiles though, so fingers crossed it never gets dropped on our floor.

I love it because it can be used in the oven, on the hob and can also be brought to the table. Dead easy to clean too. Well worth the money.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 17/06/2008 14:19

I have the metal saucepans and enamel casserole dishes. I think they are all fab.

Have a look on the Debenhams site, they may be included within the 20% off sale, and sometimes Amazon sell them with big discounts.

beansontoast · 17/06/2008 14:19

ask a buddhist and the answer is probably no.

however one large le crueset roasting/caserole/maassive pan that feeds a table full of friends/family and may well develop special powers of healing....is of course a booon

i would consider it an investment

scatterbrain · 17/06/2008 14:25

I think they are fabulous - I bought my set (cerise !) with my second ever pay cheque - some 19 years ago and am still using them daily ! One has a crack from being dropped recently and has a tad of rust around that - but I still use it for boiling eggs !

My set have wooden handles so can't go in the dishwasher - and they have a few scratches and marks on them now - but are still fabulous !

Also got some casserole dishes and a skillet for wedding pressies 15 years ago and they still look like new !

So definitely worth the investment in my opinion - and yes they are highly enviable !

Aero · 17/06/2008 14:25

Have a look here. A few saucepan sets on offer too.

WendyWeber · 17/06/2008 14:26

I've got 2 big casserole dishes - one is 25 years old and the other about 20. They don't get used as often as many and are in lovely condition still. (The only thing to watch is standing a wet one on the worktop as it leaves rusty rings which are buggers to shift)

scatterbrain · 17/06/2008 14:27

PS - have burned lots in mine over the years - found that leaving overnight with strong solution of dishwasher powder in works a treat !

scatterbrain · 17/06/2008 14:28

oh yes - forgot about that - I get rust rings in my butlers sink if I leave them soaking in it !! Never got that in my old stainless steel one !

DANCESwithLordPottingtonSmythe · 17/06/2008 14:28

BBC Good Food magazine always seem to have Le Creuset offers.

hoxtonchick · 17/06/2008 14:29

tk maxx often have them.

expatinscotland · 17/06/2008 14:29

I am currently saving for a Le Crueset round casserole.

I have been wanting one for years and I think it will be worth the investment.

I'm having one for Christmas, dammit.

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 17/06/2008 14:31

I bought one of these 18 months ago, and it has never been put away. It lives on the top of the stove as it is such a versatile shape and size, and is used every day. Plus I think it looks rather fab in all it's groovy orangeness. They heat evenly, and keep food warm for ages.

Do it!

DANCESwithLordPottingtonSmythe · 17/06/2008 14:31

OOH yes, TK Maxx good for Le Crueset, great prices but you probably won't be able to get a matching set

Love the new turquoise colour too

scatterbrain · 17/06/2008 14:34

Think there is an outlet shop at Bicester Village - or was it Clarks village ?

expatinscotland · 17/06/2008 14:35

Oh, no! I want the tacky orange one all the way! I want the 26 cm casserole in tacky orange.
