Lift-up storage beds: practical or just a fad

How practical are the lift-up beds

Is it easy? Is there a significant difference in brands?

I can see things being put in there and forgotten forever....

Life-changing. I love it. Lifts from the end and can see everything under there. I store bedding, suitcases, random documents

NutButterOnToast · 12/02/2026 16:26

Absolutely love mine, in fact i have two.

In mine and DH's room it's storage for spare bedsheets and winter or summer clothes. The clothes we wear go back into the wardrobe and the others stored to free up space

In the spare room it's got spare duvets & pillows & bedsheets for the other rooms.

BoardBoredBared · 12/02/2026 16:57

We all have them, children have side lift singles and Dh and I have a super king which is basically two singles on an end lift. It is not easy to lift but not that hard but that is because the mattress is heavy. Think of the amount of stuff you can store under a full bed. Drawers have limited widths.

We have winter/summer duvets, clothes, packing stuff for going away for weekends under the bed instead of storing it in the loft. I wouldn't be without them.

tirednessbecomesme · 12/02/2026 17:04

Love mine - I have both a side loft one (king size) and an end lift (queen)
they are heavy though and I I’m pretty short and find it difficult to reach things at the far end as the side lift only goes up so far

Octavia64 · 12/02/2026 17:04

I looked at one. I couldn’t lift it up so didn’t buy it.

CaptainSevenofNine · 12/02/2026 17:06

Love it. Always had something to use as storage under the bed but it was always difficult to access and difficult to clean. The dust was awful.

lift up bed easy to access and easy to clean.

ItsAWonderfulLifeforMe · 12/02/2026 17:06

Great but mine is very heavy and be very careful with them around young children or pets etc. I read a story about a woman who was looking under theirs and it fell on her head and killed her so very cautious now!

Frugal25 · 12/02/2026 17:08

I love mine. I refused for years as I thought it was just for granny's and they looked old fashioned.... Looked at one to humour the guy in the shop and I've been obsessed ever since. All the bedding for all the beds are in mine and it's all neat and clean and tidy.

springawakeningss · 12/02/2026 17:09

Love mine.. it needs decent strength to pull it up, but that's good because kids generally can't pull it up. I got mine from DUSK for about 350 which I thought was cheap and might be rubbish, but it's actually really good quality. I nearly went for a thousand pound one but the cheaper one was a nicer style so I risked it

7238SM · 12/02/2026 17:16

We had 2 when we lived in a flat. 1 opened from the foot end and the other from the side- check the opening angle before buying because it will affect where you can put it. Overall, I found them great for storage of the winter or summer quilts, extra pillows or lesser used things.

Ours were from a local, independent shop and in a faux leather (plastic!). The one in our bedroom eventually developed wear to the plastic at a few points from opening/closing it. You couldn't see it with bedding on top though. We've now moved to a house and looking at a bed with drawers underneath instead.

FindleBindle · 12/02/2026 17:18

I love mine. I have expensive ones and a cheaper one from next. The Next one feels cheaper and has cheaper components but still works ok while the expensive ones feel much better quality as they should. Both seem good for the price I paid.

Jellycatspyjamas · 12/02/2026 17:25

We have one in my DSs room. Good for storing things you don’t need often like suitcases, our Christmas tree is under there along with out of season clothes in vacuum bags. His is a small double so lots of storage space.

carbonelthecat · 12/02/2026 17:59

Absolutely love mine. We spent a fair bit of time choosing and got one I could lift easily with the mattress and bedding still on and honestly it is easier to get stuff out of there than it was going under the bed. Any everything stored is dust free!

Nomedshere · 12/02/2026 18:03

Love mine. Keep bedding, towels and suitcases in there.

FlorenceBlack · 12/02/2026 18:08

Love mine, I have two, one only opens halfway so is much easier to operate. The one that opens the full length is easier to open than it is to close, I find it heavy when closing, but it’s something I might only do once a fortnight or so.

WorriedRelative · 12/02/2026 18:13

We have one. It is bloody brilliant. We store the spare bedding under there and some clothes that aren't worn frequently. Loads of space and much easier than drawers

Twoshoesnewshoes · 12/02/2026 18:17

We have one. Our mattress is heavy so it’s really hard to lift, needs both DP and myself so not very practical.
we went for a frumpy divan with drawers under for our next bed, and I use the drawers every day.

redboxerclub · 12/02/2026 18:22

I have two and they are fab BUT one is better than the other. One has a solid base that is about 2pm of the floor. From artists

The other has a thin fabric base from DUSK

i much prefer the look and the base of the artista one the quality is far superior in the mechanism too.

I hate the thin fabric base.

they were both roughly the same price. Under £400 .

haggisaggis · 12/02/2026 18:23

We got 2 king size ones for the dc when we moved 14 years ago. We tend to forget what’s under them - I think ds’s has DofE equipment and old toys. Dd still has dolls under hers from when she was wee. Hers is now extremely difficult to lift and takes 2 to lift it. Not sure if I’d get them again.

Notmymarmosets · 12/02/2026 18:27

Our king-size is very heavy and only DH can lift it. We also only use it together as it gives the impression it would like to fall down and cut our heads off at all times. That said - loads of storage!

KatyMac · 13/02/2026 01:21

Gosh I wrote this and meandered off - I am sorry

So i should practise a few times with ones I am considering buying so I know I can lift it - although I am more likely to get DH to do it honestly

We are going to be short of space when we move so I am really considering it

I find drawers really difficult to access as im disabled i wonder which is worse

Yes, the basic one from Tempur is fantastic, it’s hydraulic so really easy to lift and put back down.

NotReadyForChristmas2025 · 13/02/2026 11:14

Terrible. Hot climates goes mouldy

pouletvous · 13/02/2026 11:16

I love mine. Had it about ten years

Great but mine is very heavy and be very careful with them around young children or pets etc. I read a story about a woman who was looking under theirs and it fell on her head and killed her so very cautious now!

I think about this every time I open mine and make sure the safety leg is in place.
