Lift-up storage beds: practical or just a fad

How practical are the lift-up beds

Is it easy? Is there a significant difference in brands?

I can see things being put in there and forgotten forever....

We have a kingsized one, it is quite heavy to lift up. I had a constant fear of it falling on me or the kids and killing one of us though (for no reason, it’s never failed!) I don’t open it with the kids around and won’t go properly underneath unless my husband is there to hold it open for me. I keep all the stuff I need to access regularly at the foot end where it opens.

We are one our 2nd end lift up, love them. The first one was getting difficult to lift, it was 10 years old, the gas can escape apparently, so we bought a new one, so much easier to lift. In talking the chap in the shop the heavier the mattress the easier they are to lift! You can get electric ones now too, although they are very expensive compared. I store all our shoes under our king size, we have a lot of shoes! I also put one of those mini dehumidifier things in there and change regularly to keep things fresh.

I already posted up thread, but another thing to consider is actually accessing the things under the bed. You said you have disabilities and I'm not sure if anyone else has mention these:

One of ours lifted from the foot end, was a king, but against a wall. Once opened, I could easily reach things at the bottom of the bed, but to get to things near the top end, I needed to physically get inside and crouch down to reach them. IF your bed isn't against a wall, then this might not be an issue.

Our other bed was also a king, but opened from the side. I also needed to step inside and crouch or kneel inside to get things on the far side, because I couldn't reach them by just standing next to the bed on the open side.

Another option for storage could be a floor to ceiling wardrobe.

i have one in my DSs room I loathe it. It’s a king size and he has a good quality heavy mattress on it and it’s just too heavy to lift easily.

I’ve got one in the spare room. So useful!

Thanks everyone, so much to check on it will be in the middle (wrt access) so we can reach at least 2 sides plus DH is 6ft 2 with one arms so fingers crossed

I love the dehumidifier idea

I will practise at the shop with a heavy mattress and im discussing having 2 single beds fitted together maybe - I guess id need a mattress topper too

Lots the think about
