I really LOVE the vintage look, and now dd is getting older she wants a more grown up room too, how do I go about doing it?

We are a two girl household, dd and myself, and I really want to make our house much more feminine, as currently it is rather sparce, no mater what I do to try and combat it, and it jsut looks mismash and cluttered. I'm really bad at things like this and I always get "looks" wrong. Are there any things I can bring into the house to make it look more feminine? I adore vintage things, and would love to give it a hint of vintage femininity. Dd has a lot of aspace furniture in her room anyway, but it never looks like it does on the website!

What do you have now?
I think going for a "look" is a mistake persnally
you just need to get things you like and not worry if they go together imo cos they will;

TheFallenMadonna · 03/06/2008 16:43

I agree with CD. If you get what you like, then it tends to be your 'look' anyway. Whereas if you style it, it looks a bit, well, styled...

Cappuccino · 03/06/2008 16:43

I'd say cushions if it looks sparse

but CD is right - copying a look is just going to go wrong.

Maybe your 'mismash and cluttered' actually looks good to the outside eye?

TheFallenMadonna · 03/06/2008 16:44

And you can call it 'eclectic'

Anna8888 · 03/06/2008 16:45

Can you link to the pieces of furniture your DD has?

What colour are her walls? Bedding? Curtains? Flooring?

BoyzntheShire · 03/06/2008 16:46

sweetpea and willow, try them.

and cd, your house is delectable and prob just what the op's after. maybe she should buy yours?

CountessDracula · 03/06/2008 16:46

we need to know what you have now

let's do your living room
What do you have in it?
describe all furniture, colours, things on walls etc

BoyzntheShire · 03/06/2008 16:47

buy things as you spot them, like cd says. and go for pinks and florals and stuff. before long, you'll have the place looking v feminine imo. pinks and florals. thats what you want. (go a bit at a time, you dont want to throw up every time you open your eyes)

MargaretMountford · 03/06/2008 16:48

Ilovebunting · 03/06/2008 16:56

Right, living room (is about to get on 23rd June) this sofa www.sofa.com/sofas/bluebell.cfm in steely blue silky velvet, and this chair www.sofa.com/sofas/sunday.cfm in the same fabric, two coffee tables that have been made from slices of ash trees (sounds v peculiar!) and some really horrid cheap dark brown bookcases and desk in same horridness, as we rent and they came with the house so that it is "furnished". Oh, and light blue imitation silk curtains ( at the imitation but they look nice!). It will look a bit chilly with all the blue I think, so was thinking maybe bringing dd's two white blanket boxes down as she has no toys in the lounge, putting them against the ar wall, and poss covering them in nice cushions or something? All her toys are in her room atm and I feel like I'm banishing her from the lounge so am endevouring to make it better! The kitchen is my worst area, and my room. My room is full of same horrid dark cheap furniture, and looks really manly and matcho, and the kitchen just looks really sparce as it is really big and all the walls, cupboards and goods are white.
