Least scented bio washing powder?

Porridgeislife · 03/02/2025 07:40

It seems to be impossible to buy fragrance free bio detergent in this country. I haven’t been impressed with fragrance free non-bio offerings.

Can anyone recommend a low/unobtrusive fragrance bio washing powder/liquid/pods? To give you an idea, Fairy non-bio makes me sneeze.

I also intensely dislike fragrance in laundry cleaner.

The least smelly I have found is Morrisons Basics Bio Laundry Detergent

Bonus points for being the cheapest I've found too.

I spent years buying Method etc (still quietly mourning the cancellation of their OG concentrate laundry liquid which came in a small pump). And then other fancy ones. But the Morrisons basics cleans as good as anything.

Lidl non bio liquid doesn't have a scent, not that I could detect.

Nsky62 · 03/02/2025 08:10

Ecover bio maybe good, small, packs online, maybe good?

I use Eco-Ver bio powder. (And their Zero liquid for wool / delicates.) It is really excellent in execution , as well as being non-annoying.

I cannot stand the overpowering scents of other people’s laundry when I’m staying as a guest.

FartyPrincess · 03/02/2025 08:13

We’ve found Daz (that we get from Amazon) and Surf (the Lily one) aren’t highly scented. We use the box powders as they last longer and are better at getting smells out of clothes.

MJnotMJ · 03/02/2025 08:14

Ecover unscented powder. They do also have scented powders though (natural scents but having accidentally bought the lavender I found it too strong). The packs don’t look that different so it’s easy to pick up the scented boxes by mistake.

Lidl powder

RosemaryRabbit · 03/02/2025 08:28

Smol non bio capsules barely smell of anything.

WomanFromTheNorth · 03/02/2025 08:52

Sainsburys own brand non bio powder came top in a recent Which review - for being eco- friendly and good at removing stains. I bought it and it seems good but I can't smell anything at all from it. To my nose, it has no smell.

WomanFromTheNorth · 03/02/2025 08:52

It's not sold as "fragrance free" but it smells of nothing at all.

SleepingisanArt · 03/02/2025 08:55

I second the morrisons powder (both bio and non-bio) but their liquid detergent absolutely stinks (three additional rinse cycles to remove the smell!)

Daz is really strong! Definitely not low scent at all.

They don’t do unscented bio though, only non-bio. I’m after bio detergent.

Thank you @RobinEllacotStrike @BetsyRegards @SleepingisanArt @WomanFromTheNorth @GreyDuck @Gatekeeper you’ve given me some good ideas to try. Thank you so much!

It’s so annoying that Persil/OMO and Tide sell bio enzyme fragrance free versions in supermarkets in North America & Australasia! Just not here.

So glad it's not just me. I sometimes actually gag when I stand near people who smell a fabric conditioner and washing powder. Such a cloying smell.

sweetsardineface · 03/02/2025 09:21

I’ve found that powder is the least offensive, whatever the brand. I’ve tried ALL the pods and they all smell revolting. I think they linger more on clothes and in the machine. I don’t know why people want their clothes to smell so artificial. But then I don’t understand the attraction of smelly fabric softener and plug-ins either.

LindorDoubleChoc · 03/02/2025 09:25

I use the Sainsburys powder in the green box, it has almost no fragrance. I certainly can't smell anything on the clothes once dry. Added bonus is it's very cheap!

Thingsthatgo · 03/02/2025 09:27

Another vote for Lidl non bio. I use the liquid with the green lid. It has a slight smell as your pour it out, but I cannot detect it on the clothes.

Soontobe60 · 03/02/2025 09:30

The key is to use less powder I find. I use half the recommended amount as my clothes are not actually very dirty. I use Asda or Aldi / Lidl powder which do have a scent in the box but my clothes don't actually smell of it. We’re so used to using so much but it’s really a marketing ploy to make us buy more.

BetsyRegards · 03/02/2025 09:32

Well this is interesting … Couldn’t understand the conflicting reports of Eco-Ver bio powder. I was certain mine was unperfumed - but pp are right, it’s Lavender and Eucalyptus.

It doesn’t smell strongly at all - but I had the impression it used to be completely fragrance free? Ho hum - it works brilliantly and I’m not interested in switching to non-bio.

ExtraDisorganised · 03/02/2025 09:35

Lidl and Aldi - they are fragranced but once the clothes have been washed and dried it fades to pretty well non-existent. I hate fragranced laundry. We don't use fabric conditioner.

WomanFromTheNorth · 03/02/2025 09:44

Sorry, I mis read the op. Thought you wanted non- bio, so ignore my suggestion. Although that sainsburys non-bio beat many bios for cleaning. I just don't like it because it smells of nothing at all.

APurpleSquirrel · 03/02/2025 09:45

Another vote for Ecover - very low fragrance even for those with fragrance. The bottle/box may smell strong but it really doesn't last on the clothes.
It can be horrible to buy second hand clothes on eBay/Vinted etc & open the package to an explosion of heavy scent.
