Apart from Diptyque which are the very best scented candles ??

I'm not going to France in the forseeable future and all the candles I buy seem to have no scent. I've bought yankee candles, laura ashley, m and s, a white company one - and all of them seem to have very little scent.

If I contrast that with burning the last smidgeon of Diptyque I've got left for 10 minutes then the whole house in scented.

Is there any fab candles I'm missing? I've just bought one off ebay (Torbay candles) which was only £5 including p&p so here's hoping.

I think Jo Malone ones have a good reputation.

Blandmum · 03/05/2008 20:30

They sell rather nice ones in Waitrose, can't remember the name

will google for you

expatinscotland · 03/05/2008 20:32

have you tried Prices?

i like them or beeswax ones i get from a apiary in Perthshire.

JackieNo · 03/05/2008 20:32

And Natural Magic ones smell lovely, though have only smelt them in the shop.

Smamfa · 03/05/2008 20:32

Jo Malone is nice but v expensive. I got a 'natural magic' one for my birthday - it's lovely.

expatinscotland · 03/05/2008 20:34

i also get some from a company called Purdie's which is local.

they're only about a tenner and they smell up a room.

Lauriefairycake · 03/05/2008 20:34

the jo malone ones are £38

I am so not paying that when Diptyque ones are only £20 in France

off to browse the suggestions so far

you can buy diptpyque ones in the uk. they aren't 20 quid though....

Blandmum · 03/05/2008 20:36

can't find the waitrose ones but
this company is very good

bran · 03/05/2008 20:37

The Pier used to have beautiful smelling candles. It's so long since I've been houshold shopping though that I'm not even sure if the The Pier is still trading.

Lauriefairycake · 03/05/2008 20:38

bra, the pier have an online store

John Lewis own brand ones are great - they do one that is very like diptyque, same flavours etc and cost about £10.

Lauriefairycake · 03/05/2008 20:38

bran · 03/05/2008 20:42

Thanks Lauriefairykek

Ginger peach was the one that I used to like.

bran · 03/05/2008 20:44

Tissy, in your link they have a scented candle called Snowfall, what on earth does that smell like?

tissy · 03/05/2008 20:45

no idea! I haven't sniffed all of them!

bran · 03/05/2008 20:50

Then you're duty bound to sniff it and report back the next time you go to that shop. Have a sniff of the Jack Frost while you're there too.

I wonder if they would be good presents for the relatives in Malaysia, they never get the chance to smell snow or frost.

tissy · 03/05/2008 20:54

ok, then!

DefinitelyNotMARINAWheeler · 03/05/2008 21:09

Which M & S ones did you try though Laurie? Agree some are useless, but the Marks and Spencer grapefruit and ginger candle reviewed here really is as good as they say. I love Diptyque too and this is a very fair substitute.

Lauriefairycake · 03/05/2008 21:21

Yep, the ones in the boxes that are black and white are great but they don't do lavender anymore. They did it for about a week and then it all sold out it was that good. The green fig one is nice too.

But I want lavendery ones

DefinitelyNotMARINAWheeler · 03/05/2008 21:23

Have you tried L'Occitane? They do a very peppery-lavendery toiletries range and maybe a candle to match?
