Which rooms have a bin in your home?

I'm not a naturally tidy person and neither are the rest of my family. I'm trying to implement systems and strategies to help us keep the house in a better state.

We have a bin in the kitchen and a small one in the bathroom. Unsurprisingly, rubbish doesn't make it into either bin as much as it should.

I think a bin in every room might help. I guess more of a waste paper type bin rather than one for anything more grubby.

Do other people have bins in several rooms or am I being ridiculous?

Just the kitchen. Why would you want bins full of rubbish all over your house? If people are too lazy to put their rubbish in the bin just because it's in another room then that's just ridiculous to me.

RandomMess · 28/12/2024 20:30

I have 2 bins in my bedroom to help me be tidied 🫣 it works though, by my dressing table (cotton wool, tissues, cotton buds, dental floss) and by my side of the bed (tissues and empty tablet packs) clothing labels.

We have a bin in every room I think.

dementedpixie · 28/12/2024 20:30

2 larger bins in the kitchen for general waste and recycling. Small flip top bins in just about all the other rooms - bedrooms, living room and bathrooms

Every room has an open wastepaper - type bin near the door so it's visible and easy to use. Except kitchen and bathrooms which have lidded bins, recycling etc.
I have a large family with scatty kids, and come from a chaotic home and a family full of ADHD people. This is a way of making life easier. Make it easy for people to "win" by binning things!

Same! Although chronic procrastination in all of us means emptying the many bins can be an issue. 🤦‍♀️😁

Utility (not in kitchen....)
Bathrooms
DHs study.

Dominicains · 28/12/2024 20:39

Kitchen: food bin, normal bin, 2 recycling (all under the counter so things can be swept in). Bathroom and ensuite, all bedrooms and both studies. Not in the lounge any more as dog raids bins - the others are all lidded / on shelves so he can’t get in them. It’s DS’ job to empty them and sort recycling from non-kitchen bins once a week and take them out as and when needed.

Kitchen and bathroom and DDs room. My own bedroom/office I make the effort to get rid of the rubbish constantly.

JaninaDuszejko · 28/12/2024 20:40

Kitchen, the bathrooms and the DDs' bedroom. Never felt the need for one anywhere else.

whatthedickens5 · 28/12/2024 20:40

4 bins in Kitchen, 1 bin dining room, 2 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, 1 in office

NotThisOldChestnutAgain · 28/12/2024 20:42

All bathrooms and downstairs loo, all bedrooms which don't have en suites, kitchen, dining room, study. No bin in hall or living room.

I have 7 flights of stairs in my house so taking a tissue from my office (lower ground floor) to my kitchen would involve three flights of stairs… or from my en-suite down to the kitchen with a used tampon, again, three flights. And if I were in the garden, four.

Cantseestraight · 28/12/2024 20:43

Kitchen only!

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 28/12/2024 20:46

Kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms (the bedrooms are waste paper baskets)

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 28/12/2024 20:46

Kitchen
Bathroom
Office
Sitting room
Dining room
Bedroom
Guest bedroom isn't done yet but will also have one
Hallway doesn't have one yet but when it's finished I'll probably put one there too

Ratfinkstinkypink · 28/12/2024 20:46

Kitchen (one compartment for recyclables, one for general waste) and bathroom are the only rooms with bins, there is also a bin outside the backdoor for wet nappies.

QueSyrahSyrah · 28/12/2024 20:47

Kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and I often lament not having one in the lounge.

Tomatocutwithazigzagedge · 28/12/2024 20:48

Kitchen, upstairs and downstairs bathroom, my office, under DS desk in his bedroom and a recycling stack of boxes and bin in the cellar.

No bin in the living room area or my bedroom.

mathanxiety · 28/12/2024 20:50

Every room including bedrooms has one apart from the dining room. I also have one at my desk. The bathroom has a recycling bin as well as a small pedal bin. The kitchen also has two, o e for recycling.

dudsville · 28/12/2024 20:52

Just kitchen and bathrooms.

If the bin is emptied every evening (or in the morning in the case of bedroom bins) then you don't end up with bins 'full of rubbish' all over.

Aside from the kitchen and bathroom bins they don’t really get full , they get emptied . If you use a cotton wool ball or tissue in the bedroom at bedtime do you seriously walk back to the kitchen bin ?

MyCatIsTheHeadChef · 28/12/2024 20:59

We have 3 flights of stairs, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 cloakroom toilet a kitchen, a home office and a dining room. We have a bin in every single room.

But I empty the bins every single evening as part of my post-dinner routine. It's mostly paper or chocolate box wrappings or an empty toilet roll. Nothing disgusting. But I don't like having it hang around. I might miss a day if we have been out, but it's automatic like brushing teeth really.

ExpensiveDecoration · 28/12/2024 20:59

Every room, the kitchen and bathroom ones emptied as needed, the ofhers once a week before the dustbin collection. Far easier to walk round with a bag and empty them once a week (takes 5 mins and they are never overflowing, we do take recyclables straight to the kitchen as they are bulkier or need rinsing) than have to keep walking to the kitchen with every bit of rubbish, or have it sitting on the surfaces until you do go.

Pineapplewaves · 28/12/2024 21:05

Kitchen, Bathroom, En-suite and one in each bedroom.

Apfelkuchen · 28/12/2024 21:07

Kitchen, bathroom, ensuite, DC bedrooms, and thinking of buying one for my office.
